Local Crime from 7-3-13


A TEENAGER reported that she was sexually assaulted at about 2 p.m. Thursday, June 27, in an alley in the 3700 block of North Lavergne Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 15-year-old teen reported that a man approached her from behind, pushed her into the alley, pushed her against a garage door and molested her, and that she hit and kicked him and was able to get away, according to police.
The man was described as white/Hispanic, age 20 to 30, 6-0 and 180 pounds, and wearing a black shirt and blue jeans.

A MAN REPORTED that one of three men threatened him with a gun at about 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, in an alley in the 5800 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 23-year-old man reported that as he was walking his dog in the alley, a car stopped and three men got out, and that one of the men pointed a handgun at him and they chased him until he took shelter in a business in the 5700 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to police.
One of the men was described as white/Hispanic, age 20 to 24, 5-8 and 220 pounds, and wearing a black T-shirt. A second man was described as 5-8 and 195 pounds, and wearing a black T-shirt and blue jeans. The third man was described as white/Hispanic and age 20 to 25.

A TEENAGER reported that she was robbed at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, June 30, in the 4300 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 17-year-old teen reported that a car with tinted windows stopped near her and a man got out and took her cell phone valued at $250 and her purse containing a debit card and $7 in cash, according to police.
The man was described as white/Hispanic, age 20, 5-11 and 220 pounds.

A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, in the 4900 block of West Melrose Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 30-year-old woman reported that a man approached her from behind and snatched her purse containing prescription medication and $270 in cash, according to police.
The man was described as white, age 22 to 25, 6-0 and 170 pounds.

A MAN WAS arrested on a public indecency charge at about 8:40 p.m. Friday, June 28, in Portage Park, 4100 N. Long Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 23-year-old woman reported that while she and her 6-year-old daughter were walking through the park, a man followed them and that he had his hands down his pants and appeared to be masturbating, according to police. The man was taken into custody in the park, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Adrian I. Pintea, age 65, of the 6200 block of North Knox Avenue.

A MAN REPORTED that he was attacked at about 4 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, in the 6200 block of West Higgins Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 23-year-old man reported that a man approached him and asked him if he wanted to buy drugs, then hit him on the left side of his face with a glass bottle, according to police. The man was treated at Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center for bruising, police said.
The man was described as white/Hispanic, age 20 to 22, 5-6 and 150 pounds, and wearing a gray shirt and shorts.

A WOMAN reported that her cell phone was stolen between 4 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. Sunday, June 30, while she was at Teaser’s Pub, 7123 W. Higgins Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 23-year-old woman reported that a man at the bar made advances at her and she turned him down, and that after she left she discovered that her phone valued at $600 was missing and when she called the phone the man answered and propositioned her, according to police.

TWO MEN and two women were arrested on drug charges at about 7:20 p.m. Saturday, June 29, in the 5300 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers noticed a smell of marijuana coming from a car, and when they stopped the car, the two male passengers each threw a suspected marijuana cigarette out the window, according to police. Officers found a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana in the possession of the female passenger and a cigarette box containing two codeine pills in the possession of the female driver, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as Joseph M. Cruz, age 28, of the 2400 block of North Leclaire Avenue, Cynthia Solis, age 19, of the 2800 block of Ruby Street, Franklin Park, Nicole A.A. Velez, age 18, of the 9600 block of Schiller Boulevard, Franklin Park, and Marquise Henton, age 21, of the 9700 block of Gage Avenue, Franklin Park.

AN EMPLOYEE reported that two men stole merchandise from the Plaza Mini Mart store, 5000 W. Lawrence Ave., at about 4:10 p.m. Sunday, June 30, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that the men asked for a case of beer from the back of the store and that when he put the beer on the counter they took the case of Modelo beer valued at $33 and four bottles of alcohol valued at $520 and left the store without paying for the items, according to police.
One of the men was described as white/Hispanic, age 22 to 32, 5-9 to 6-0 and 165 to 185 pounds. The other man was described as white/Hispanic, age 24 to 28, 5-8 to 5-10 and 170 to 190 pounds.

AN EMPLOYEE reported that a man and a woman stole merchandise from the Mariano’s Fresh Market store, 5353 N. Elston Ave., at about 12:25 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that he saw the two place four containers of Enfamil baby formula valued at $105.96 and eight packages of Crest whitening strips valued at $339.92 in a duffel bag and leave the store without paying for the items, according to police.

AN EMPLOYEE reported that a man and a woman stole merchandise from the Mariano’s Fresh Market store, 5353 N. Elston Ave., at about 11:40 a.m. Friday, June 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that he saw the two place 12 containers of Enfamil baby formula valued at $317 in a large bag and leave the store without paying for the items, according to police.

A WOMAN reported that her neighbor’s home in the 5200 block of West Henderson Street was burglarized at about 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported she saw a man enter her neighbor’s home and called police, and after the home owner arrived he reported that $300 in cash and several pieces of jewelry were missing from the home, according to police.

EMPLOYEES reported that Saint Joseph Church, 5000 N. Cumberland Ave., was burglarized between 7:30 p.m. Sunday, June 25, and 8:35 a.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Employees reported that they discovered that a locked room inside the church had been forced open and that a silver cross valued at $3,000, a jeweled silver cross valued at $1,000, two gold crosses valued at $300 and a silver dish were missing, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5900 block of West Higgins Avenue was burglarized at about 8 p.m. Sunday, June 30, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that a side bathroom window was open and that $300 in cash, an Apple laptop computer valued at $1,200 and 10 video discs valued at $150 were missing, according to police.

RESIDENTS reported that their home in the 7800 block of West Thorndale Avenue was burglarized between 12:30 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. Sunday, June 30, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The couple reported that when they returned home they discovered that the back door had been forced open and that two gold pocket watches, a gold wedding band, a gold ring with rubies and diamonds, an Anne Klein watch, a Citizen watch and numerous pairs of earrings were missing, according to police.
