Local Crime from 16th District 4-9-14


A TEENAGER was charged with battery following her arrest at about 9:35 a.m. Monday, April 7, at Foreman High School, 3235 N. Leclaire Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 15-year-old girl was arrested after she allegedly punched a 16-year-old boy during an argument, according to police. A security guard at the school said he attempted to intervene and that he also was hit by the girl, police said.

A WOMAN reported that a man attempted to break into her home in the 5600 block of West Grace Street at about 7 p.m. Sunday, April 6, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she noticed two men sitting in a vehicle and that several times the passenger got out of the car and walked around her building looking through windows, according to police. The woman said the man attempted to open a side window, a basement window and the front porch door with a pry tool, and that a resident who lives on the first floor went outside the house and the two fled, police said.

A MAN WAS charged with battery following his arrest at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 6, in the 5400 block of West Montrose Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An off-duty police officer reported that the man was tailgating his car and that when they both pulled over and he called police, the man knocked the phone out of his hand, according to police. The officer said he announced his office and the man fled, and that he tackled the man and sprayed him with a chemical spray, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Steven J. Halami, age 44, of the 3300 block of North Plainfield Avenue.

A WOMAN WAS charged with disorderly conduct following her arrest at about 8:45 p.m. Monday, April 7, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A woman called 911 and said that the Jefferson Park Blue Line station, 4917 N. Milwaukee Ave., had collapsed, and after officers tracked the phone that was used, 25th (Grand Central) District officers went to the suspect’s home and arrested her, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Alicja Wojtal, of the 2500 block of North Lockwood Avenue.

A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 2:40 a.m. Sunday, April 6, in the 3200 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 37-year-old man reported that a man asked to use his cell phone and that when he gave the phone to the man, he fled, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5000 block of West Waveland Avenue was burglarized between 10 p.m. Friday, April 4, and 9:45 p.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the front door was unlocked and that a 50-inch television set, a Play Station 3 device and power tools were missing, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 4800 block of West Addison Street was burglarized between 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 4, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the front door was open and that a 32-inch television set, a Play Station 3 device, three cell phones, a credit card, miscellaneous jewelry and $15 in cash were missing, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 6300 block of West Raven Street was burglarized between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday, April 6, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that a 42-inch television set, two gold coins and prescription medication were missing, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his home in the 5400 block of West Cornelia Avenue was burglarized between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he discovered the garage window was open and that two bicycles valued at a total of $400 were missing, according to police.

A WOMAN reported that her car was burglarized between 8:35 and 9:45 p.m. Friday, April 4, while it was parked in the 5400 block of West Irving Park Road according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to her car she discovered that the front passenger window was broken and that a computer tablet valued at $1,200, a designer bag valued at $80, computer tablet accessories valued at $90, gym shoes valued at $120, three shirts valued at $65 and designer sunglasses valued at $129 were missing, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that his car was burglarized between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. Friday, April 4, while it was parked in the 5400 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his car he discovered that a rear window was broken and that a backpack valued at $150, a laptop computer valued at $1,000, a computer tablet valued at $300, a cell phone valued at $150 and books were missing, according to police.
