Local Crime from 16th District 4-30-14


A WOMAN REPORTED that shots were fired at her home in the 4800 block of West Winnemac Avenue at about 3:50 a.m. Monday, April 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 63-year-old woman reported that she heard gunshots and discovered that there were two bullet holes in a window, according to police. The woman’s reported that a video security system shows a man getting out of a dark vehicle and firing a gun at the home, police said.

THREE MEN were arrested at about 6:55 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, in the 3800 block of North Sayre Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers on patrol saw three men passing what appeared to be a marijuana cigarette and that one of the men had a gun in his sweatshirt, according to police. Officers placed two men into custody for having about 14 grams of a substance suspected of being marijuana in their possession, while the third man ran away, police said. The third suspect was found with a gun in a basement in the 3800 block of North Newland Avenue, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as Juan Miranda, age 18, of the 2600 block of North Rutherford Avenue, and Irving Diaz, age 25, and Guiberto Diaz, age 23, both of the 2700 block of North Sayre Avenue.

A WOMAN REPORTED that two men broke into her home in the 5600 block of West Waveland Avenue at about 12:30 p.m. Monday, April 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 80-year-old woman reported that she saw a car stop in front of her home and that a short time later as she was returning from the basement she found two men who were going through her drawers, according to police. The woman reported that she discovered that three silver rings valued at $700, a chain with five diamonds valued at $13,000 and $5,000 in cash were missing, police said.

A WOMAN REPORTED that her wallet was stolen at about 3:15 p.m. Monday, April 28, at the Jewel-Osco store, 4754 N. Cumberland Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 82-year-old woman reported that a woman asked her to read a greeting card to her and that she later she discovered that her wallet containing $30 and credit cards was missing from her purse, which was in her shopping cart, according to police. The woman said that a representative of her credit card company told her that there was $1,700 in charges on her card, police said.

A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 4000 block of North Central Avenue was burglarized between 5 a.m. and 8:10 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the back door had been forced open and that a laptop computer was missing, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 6300 block of West School Street was burglarized between 1:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday, April 27, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the front door was open and that a 40-inch television set and a laptop computer were missing, according to police.

A WOMAN REPORTED $15,000 worth of tools was stolen from her vehicle between 10 p.m. Monday, April 21, and 12:40 a.m. the following day, while it was parked in the 5200 block of North Pittsburgh Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
