Local Crime from 17th District 9-20-14


A MAN AND a woman reported that a man fired a gun at them in an apparent gang-related incident at about 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, in the 3400 block of West Wilson Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 21-year-old man and 20-year-old woman reported that as they left their home a man pulled out a gun from a backpack, fired several shots in their direction and fled, according to police. Witnesses reported that they saw the man standing on the corner with a group of men, police said.

A WOMAN reported that her purse was stolen at about 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, in the 4500 block of North Drake Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 23-year-old woman reported that a man took her purse containing her wallet and credit cards, handed the purse to a second man and told him to run, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 6200 block of North Lowell Avenue was burglarized between 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the back door had been forced open and that two necklaces, three rings, two bracelets and two iPads were missing, according to police.

A WOMAN reported that her home in the 3400 block of West Wilson Avenue was burglarized between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the front door was unlocked and that Nike shoes valued at $80, a grill valued at $20 and two steak knives were missing, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 3200 block of North Central Park Avenue was burglarized between 7:30 a.m. and 11:50 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the back door had been forced open and that $1,200 in cash and two tablets valued at $700 were missing, according to police.

A WOMAN reported that her home in the 5600 block of North Bernard Street was burglarized between 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the front door was unlocked and that costume jewelry valued at $90 and $30 in cash were missing, according to police.

LINCOLNWOOD

A WOMAN reported that someone attempted to break into her home in the 6600 block of North Crawford Avenue between 10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, and 8 p.m. the following day, according to Lincolnwood police.
The woman reported that she discovered that the bedroom window had been raised and that the screen was dislodged but that nothing appeared to be missing, according to police.

A VILLAGE employee reported that four bronze plaques were stolen between noon Friday, Aug. 29, and noon Friday, Sept. 12, from Centennial Park, 6801 N. McCormick Blvd.
The man reported that two bronze stone-mounted plaques valued at $300 and two bronze bench plaques valued at $300 were missing, according to police.

A MAN WAS charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following his arrest at about 1:20 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, in the 3500 block of West Devon Avenue, according to Lincolnwood police.
An officer stopped a car that was being driven with a headlight out and that made a wide turn, and the driver was arrested after the officer smelled the odor of alcohol on his breath and he failed sobriety tests, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police Benjamin B. Kelly, age 42, of the 6400 block of North Newcastle Avenue.

AN EMPLOYEE of Verizon Wireless, 3325 W. Touhy Ave., reported that a group of men stole electronics at about 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, according to police.
The employee reported that a "flash mob" of seven men entered the store, removed anti-theft devices, took about 16 cell phones and other electronics valued at $9,440 and fled the store, according to police.
