A man was charged with first degree murder and possession of narcotics after he was placed into custody at about 9 a.m. Friday, April 17, after he fled from police and crashed his van in the back yard of a home at Carmen and Nagle avenues, according to officials.

Officers were looking for a man who was wanted for questioning in connection with the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old man at about 5:35 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, in the alley outside a Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant in the 5200 block of West Fullerton Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police. The victim was identified by police as Edgar Muneton, age 25, of the 1700 block of North Central Avenue.

On April 17 officers saw the man enter a 2004 Dodge minivan at the LP Motel, 4605 N. Harlem Ave., Harwood Heights, and stopped him in the 4900 block of North Harlem Avenue because he was wanted for a parole violation, and he fled when officers tried to arrest him, according to police. The man drove north on Harlem to Carmen Avenue and east on Carmen at high speed that resulted in two vehicles striking each other at Natchez and Carmen avenues, police said.

The man then struck a Honda Accord traveling south on Nagle, causing it to spin onto a sidewalk, while his van flipped onto its roof in a yard on Carmen after striking a fence and a parked vehicle, according to police said. The driver of the Honda was treated for an ankle injury, police said.

The man in the van fled on foot, but officers apprehended him, and he was treated at Lutheran General Hospital for a broken arm and cuts to his face, according to police. The man also was charged with possession of narcotics after officers found 0.2 gram of a substance suspected of being crack cocaine, aggravated battery and other traffic violations, police said.

The suspect was identified by police as Alexander Gonzalez, age 25, of the 11000 block of South Avenue B.

Two other men were charged in connection with the murder, police said. They were identified by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office as Eric Gill, age 23, and Stephon Gill, age 21, of the 4800 block of West Wabansia Avenue.

Gonzalez and the Gill brothers allegedly went to the Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant to retaliate for a previous gang-related incident, according to the state’s attorney’s office. The men attacked rival gang members in the restaurant, which resulted in the fatal shooting of Muneton, the states attorney’s office said.
