Local Crime from 16th District 5-4-2016




A MAN WAS shot at about 4:10 a.m. Sunday, May 1, in the 3300 block of North Laramie Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 24-year-old man reported that as he was riding in a car with a man and two women, they saw a dark sport utility vehicle behind them with a man leaning out the window shouting at them, according to police. The man said that he heard six shots and discovered that he had been shot in the right side of his back, police said.
The man was admitted to Illinois Masonic Hospital in serious condition, police said.

A TEENAGER reported that he was robbed at about 5:10 p.m. Friday, April 29, in the 6300 block of West Melrose Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 15-year-old Steinmetz Prep High School student reported that as he was walking with friends, a group of teens approached them and one of them punched him in the mouth and took his cell phone, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 10 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, in the 4900 block of West Foster Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 31-year-old man reported that a man struck him on the head with a bottle and a second man took his wallet and his cell phone, according to police.

A WOMAN reported that she was the victim of a scam at about 2:35 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at her home, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 72-year-old woman reported that a man rang her door bell and said that he needed to check the water pipes in the basement, and that after she led him to the basement she heard a loud noise upstairs and then saw a man leaving the house carrying a pillow case, according to police. The woman said that eight gold bars valued at $10,000, a diamond wedding ring valued at $5,000, necklaces and earrings valued at $12,000 and $3,000 in cash were missing, police said.

A TEENAGER reported that a man attempted to rob him at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, in the 4700 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 15-year-old teen reported that a man displayed a knife and took his wallet and that the man looked in the wallet and threw it to the ground without taking anything, according to police.

A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 4 p.m. Monday, April 25, in the 4300 block of North Narragansett Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 50-year-old woman reported that as she was waiting for a bus, two men rode up on bicycles, took her wallet and pushed her to the ground, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that his car was stolen at about 2:50 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, at Cicero and Patterson avenues, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 77-year-old man reported that after a minor crash in which two vehicles sideswiped each other, the driver of the other vehicle opened the door to his car, pulled him out and threw him to the ground and that a female passenger entered his Honda Pilot and drove away and the man followed in his car, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 4:40 a.m. Sunday, May 1, in an alley in the 3200 block of North Ozark Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 40-year-old man reported that he entered a car containing three men attempting to purchase cocaine and two men displayed handguns and took his cell phone valued at $800, two sets of car keys and $800 in cash, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that the Portage Theater, 4050 N. Milwaukee Ave., was burglarized between 8 a.m. Monday, April 18, and 9:55 a.m. Thursday, April 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he entered the storage area at the theater he discovered that a window was broken and that 10 portable heaters, a grill fryer valued at $5,000, 10 chandeliers, two bathroom dryers and a floor buffer were missing, according to police. The man reported that the total value of the items was more than $10,000, police said.

A MAN WAS arrested for allegedly defacing city property at about 8 a.m. Thursday, April 28, in the 5000 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An off-duty police officer saw a man deface a wall with a marker and arrested him, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Luis Herrera, age 18, of the 4800 block of West Ainslie Street.

FOUR MEN were arrested after a man reported that they attacked him at about 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, in the 6500 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 24-year-old man reported that four men challenged him to a fight and surrounded him, that one of them struck him in the eye with the butt of a handgun, and that when he fell to the ground, the other men punched and kicked him, according to police. Officers arrested the suspects based on that description that was provided, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as Kevin Palma, age 24, of the 3700 block of North Newland Avenue, Deshawn D. Horton, age 19, of the 2300 block of North Harlem Avenue, Edin Mujkovic, age 19, of the 3300 block of North Neva Avenue, and a 17-year-old male.

A WOMAN reported that her home in the 4200 block of North Central Avenue was burglarized between 9:30 a.m. and noon Wednesday, April 27, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that four watches valued at $400 and headphones valued at $100 were missing, according to police.

TWENTY tires were stolen from five Mazda vehicles at about 8 a.m. Thursday, April 28, while they were parked in a parking lot in the 4900 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An employee of the Autobarn City Mazda, 3255 N. Cicero Ave., reported that the cars belonged to the dealership and that the business rents the parking lot to store cars, according to police. The tires were valued at $12,000, police said.

SEVERAL garage burglaries were reported between April 25 and April 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Garage burglarizes were reported in the 5200 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue, the 4900 block of West Winnemac Avenue, the 4800 block of West Balmoral Avenue, the 5100 block of West Montrose Avenue, the 4900 block of West Winona Street, the 4900 block of West Carmen Avenue, the 5800 block of North Moody Avenue, the 5700 block of North McVicker Avenue and the 5100 block of North Monitor Avenue, according to police.
