Local Crime from 17th District 12-9-17





Three men were arrested following a carjacking incident at about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, in the 6000 block of North Kedvale Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A 26-year-old man reported that he was in his parked 2016 Chevrolet Impala when a man pointed a handgun at him, demanded his belongings and took his vehicle and cell phone, according to police. The man reported that he used the cell phone from an employee of a liquor store to call 9-1-1 and found his vehicle’s location using the OnStar global positioning system application, which was traced to a Shell gas station, 7201 N. Cicero Ave., Lincolnwood, according to police.
Officers found the stolen car occupied by three men and the vehicle sped away while ignoring stop signs and traffic lights and following a chase the vehicle was stopped in the 5200 block of West Touhy Avenue, Skokie, police said.
The driver was found in possession of a substance suspected of being methamphetamine, one passenger was found in possession of a handgun, the other passenger was found in possession of a substance suspected of being cannabis, and exact charges are pending further investigation, according to police.
The suspects were identified by police as Jonathon Birman, age 18, of the 4800 block of North Kildare Avenue, Xavier Diaz, age 20, of the 3900 block of North Christiana Avenue and as a 17-year-old male.

Employees of the Burger King restaurant, 6301 N. Lincoln Ave., reported that three men robbed the business at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A female cashier reported that a man entered the business with a black handgun, pointed it at her and a 26-year-old manager, and ordered the manager to bring him to the safe in the back room, where another man followed them and they took a money bag and cash drawer from the safe containing an unknown amount of cash, according to police.
A 19-year-old employee reported that a third man entered the kitchen and grabbed a knife, then grabbed her by the shirt and ordered her to open the cashier drawer, and that attempts by both of them to open it were unsuccessful before all three men fled, police said. Police said that the money bag was later found emptied on the front lawn of Taco Bell, 3511 W. Devon Ave.

A man was shot at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, in the 4300 block of North Albany Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 18-year-old man reported that he was walking home when a man walked behind him, cursed at him and hit him in the head with the handle of a gun, and that as he ran away he was shot once in the right calf, according to police. The man was treated at Illinois Masonic Hospital in stable condition, police said.

A man was shot while driving at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, in the 3500 block of North Keeler Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 30-year-old man reported that a man followed him in a car with a female passenger, and that the man eventually pulled alongside him making gang hand symbols and fired a gun, shattering a driver-side window and striking the man in the left arm and left cheek, according to police. The man drove himself to Community First Hospital and was later transferred to Illinois Masonic Hospital, police said.
The man was described as white/Hispanic and age 24 to 26. The woman was described as white/Hispanic and age 22 to 26.

A man was shot at about 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, in the 4700 block of North Whipple Street, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
Officers responded to a call of a person shot and discovered a 30-year-old man with a gunshot to the throat, and he was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital in serious condition, according to police.
Witnesses reported seeing a man fleeing the scene and described the suspect’s appearance, and footage from security cameras also showed the man fleeing the area on Lawrence Avenue, police said.
The man was described as black, age 25 to 35, approximately 170 pounds and 5-7 to 5-10, wearing a baseball cap, a black coat over a hooded sweatshirt, and carrying a black backpack.

A man was shot at about 12:15 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, in the 3800 block of West Leland Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 28-year-old man reported that he was walking with a 20-year-old man when a man in a gold Toyota Camry with dark tinted windows asked them about their gang affiliation, and that the man exited and chased them both into the backyard of a home where the man was shot in his rear right thigh, according to police. The 28-year-old man was treated at Illinois Masonic Hospital, police said.
The man was described as white/Hispanic, about 5-8 and 150-180 pounds, and wearing black clothing.

Lawrence

A FedEx driver reported that he was threatened with a gun at about 2:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, in the 3400 block of West Lawrence Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 31-year-old man reported that he was inside a currency exchange business and left his truck outside, and that he heard a commotion outside and checked on the vehicle and was asked by one man "do you wanna be popped," and he re-entered the business, according to police. The man reported that when he returned to the vehicle he was approached by another man who displayed a handgun from his sweater pocket and that he grabbed the man’s hand so he couldn’t grab the gun and that a third man approached from behind and punched him in the head, that they fled in an older-model gold Toyota Camry when a nearby woman yelled "the cops are coming," according to police.
The armed man was described as white/Hispanic, age 17 to 18, 5-11 to 6-0 and 150 to 160 pounds. The man who punched him was described as white/Hispanic, age 17 to 18, 5-8 to 5-9 and 120 to 130 pounds. The third man was described as black/Hispanic, age 27 to 28, about 5-10 and 170 pounds, and wearing a silver hooded sweatshirt.

A man reported that he was robbed at about 5:10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, in the 3500 block of West Montrose Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 36-year-old man reported that he was sitting in his parked vehicle when a cinder block was thrown through his drivers-side rear window, shattering the window and striking him in the back of the head, and that when he exited to investigate three men surrounded him, one of whom held a black shotgun to his throat as the others searched his vehicle and took a green satchel containing a cell phone, various ID and credit cards and a money clip with $160 in cash before fleeing, according to police.
One man was described as white/Hispanic, about age 18, approximately 5-6 and 150 pounds, and wearing a green ski cap and a grey hooded sweatshirt. Another man was described as age 18 to 20, approximately 5-9 and 175 pounds, and wearing a ski cap and a maroon/burgundy sweater with "Roosevelt" in yellow lettering. The third man was described as black, age 15 to 18, approximately 5-6 and 180 pounds, and wearing a black Blackhawks sweatshirt with the mascot on the rear and a green ski cap with the Green Bay Packers "G" logo.

Two men reported that their car was stolen at gunpoint at about 4:15 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1, in the 3700 block of West Berteau Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 18-year-old men reported that they were driving a 2006 Scion TC and had just dropped their friend off at a corner when a man opened the passenger side door, pointed a handgun at them, ordered them out of the vehicle and to their knees, and drove their vehicle away south on Lawndale, according to police. Police said later that day at about 4 p.m. officers spotted the stolen vehicle and followed it, and that the suspect pulled into an alley in the 5600 block of West Irving Park Road, abandoned the vehicle and fled in an unknown direction.
The man was described as black, age 20 to 25, about 5-8 to 5-11, with brown eyes and short hair, and wearing a black skullcap, black sweatshirt and black jeans.

A man reported that his car was stolen at gunpoint at about 4:45 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4, in the 4100 block of West Henderson Street, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 51-year-old man reported that he was in his 2012 Toyota Rav4 sport utility vehicle when a man approached from behind, pointed a black handgun at him, demanded he exit the car and drove away east on Henderson Street.
The man was described as black, age 30 to 35, and wearing a white T-shirt.

Bernard

A man was arrested after allegedly burglarizing a home in the 4200 block of North Bernard Street at about 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A 33-year-old man reported that he saw via his home surveillance camera a man pushing his rear window open and unlocking the rear door, and that he called 9-1-1, according to police. Officers found a man fitting a description riding his bicycle down the block and the man was apprehended after a police chase, and was found in possession of a yellow gold chain and $885 in cash that the man identified as his, according to police.
The man was identified by police as Adolfo Cardenas-Hernandez, age 51, of the 1452 block of North Keating Avenue.

Lincolnwood

Several vehicular burglaries were reported between 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, and 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, according to Lincolnwood Police.
Burglaries were reported in the 6600 block of Tower Circle Drive, the 6600 block of Kilpatrick Avenue, the 4800 block of Morse Avenue, the 6900 block of Keating Avenue, the 6600 block of Leroy Avenue, and two in the 6500 block of Leroy Avenue.
