A shooting at Agatite and Lockwood avenues that ended with a car crash across from the former Our Lady of Victory School at about 8:40 a.m. Sunday, March 25 was one of several shootings reported in the 16th (Jefferson Park) Police District over the weekend.
A 27-year-old man reported that while trying to visit his ex-girlfriend’s home in the 5200 block of West Agatite Avenue a man exited the home and fired a gun at him and that he fled in his car, according to police. A shell casing was found on the porch of the home and another by the curb, police said.
While fleeing, the man’s car struck another vehicle and crossed the front lawn of an apartment building at the northeast corner of Laramie and Agatite avenues, apparently striking the corner of the building, according to police and a witness. The accident occurred across from the former OLV School, 4434 N. Laramie Ave.
No arrests were made and residents of the house where the shooting occurred on Agatite were uncooperative when questioned, police said. Detectives will conduct a follow-up investigation, according to police.
Meanwhile, a reported 12 to 16 gunshots were fired at about 2:10 a.m. Sunday, March 25, from a parking lot next to Club Red nightclub, 5415 W. Irving Park Road. Multiple shell casings were found, police said.
A 35-year-old man was shot in the chest while fleeing through a back door of the business after a fight broke out inside the club, according to police. The man was driven to Community First Medical Center and was later transported in stable condition to Illinois Masonic Hospital, police said.
Alderman Nicholas Sposato (38th) said that he and district commander William Looney plan to meet with the club’s owner to make sure that the club has proper security.
Sposato said that there have been reports that the club has been leased to outside entities but that the license holder is responsible for all activities inside the club.
Also in the district, a 36-year-old man reported that shots were fired at about 9:50 p.m. Sunday, March 25, at his home in the 3700 block of North Oketo Avenue, according to police. The man reported that he was sleeping in the living room when the shots began and that he dropped to the floor and got himself out of the living room, police said.
Officers reported seeing about a dozen bullet holes on the home, including four on the aluminum siding on the front of the home and four on an interior front door, according to police. The incident appears to stem from a feud between the man’s son and a group of students from a suburban high school, police said.
Also, few details were available, but it appears the gunshots may have damaged a home at about 4:30 p.m. Friday, March 23, in the 5000 block of West Hutchinson Street, police said.
