Local Crime from 16th District 8-15-18
POLICE are investigating the death of an apparent homeless man who reportedly died of a possible drug overdose Tuesday morning, Aug. 14, near a railroad embankment at the Kennedy Expressway and Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man, who was described by police as in his 40s, appeared to have been living in the area where his body was found, according to police. Officers were alerted to the area from a 911 caller, police said.
A WITNESS reported that gunshots were fired at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, in the 4800 block of North Mason Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The witness reported that after hearing several gunshots fired in the alley he saw a maroon 2005 to 2007 Chevrolet Impala automobile drove away northbound through the alley at a high rate of speed, according to police. Officers recovered four live .32 caliber rounds and four live 9 mm rounds on the ground, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that two gunshots struck his car at about 2 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, while he was driving in the 4900 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that the windshield and a rear panel of the vehicle were damaged, according to police. Officers discovered three spent shell casing in the area, police.
A similar incident occurred at about 5:10 p.m. Friday, July 20, in the 4000 block of North Laporte Avenue when a driver reported that multiple gunshots were fired at his vehicle, police said.
A MAN WAS charged with criminal trespassing at about 8:25 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, after he allegedly attempted to shoplift items from the 7-Eleven store, 4859 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An employee reported that the man entered the store, took multiple cold sandwiches and attempted to leave the store without paying for the items, and the man was arrested after the employee recovered the sandwiches from the man and officers apprehended him, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Ishmak Cosey, age 43, of the 1400 block of Greenleaf Avenue.
A MAN REPORTED that a driver struck him with his vehicle following a hit and run accident at about 8:25 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, in the 7100 block of West Addison Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 39-year-old man reported that he was involved in a vehicle accident in the 5800 block of West Belmont Avenue and that the other driver drove away, according to police. The man reported that he drove after the man and when he caught up to him, he exited his vehicle, walked in front of the man’s white 2015 Ford pickup truck and yelled for him to get out while he was calling the police, and that the man drove his damaged vehicle into his right knee and drove away, according to police.
The man was described as white and age 50 to 59, police said.
SEVEN incidents of stolen wheels were reported between Aug. 6 and Aug. 10, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 5000 block of West Ainslie Street, the 4900 block of West Strong Street, the 6600 block of North Central Avenue, the 4800 block of West Winnemac Avenue, the 6300 block of West Huntington Street, the 5700 block of North Moody Avenue, and the 5900 block of North Odell Avenue, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her residence in the 5100 block of West Waveland Avenue was burglarized between 3 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home, she discovered the front door had been broken in and that jewelry valued at $20,000 was missing, according to police.
SEVERAL vehicle thefts were reported between Aug. 5 and Aug. 11, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Stolen vehicles were reported in the 6500 block of North Oconto Avenue, the 4800 block of West Addison Street, the 3800 block of North Harlem Avenue, the 6900 block of West Addison Street, the 5900 block of North Navarre Avenue, the 6700 block of North Sauganash Avenue, the 5400 block of North Elston Avenue, according to police.
