Sausage deli, sit-down restaurant opening at 5201 N. Milwaukee in Jefferson Park

DSD Sausage & Deli is planning to open this spring at the northeast corner of Milwaukee Avenue and the Foster Avenue spur in Jefferson Park, according to Alderman John Arena (45th).
The business will be located in a commercial building at 5201-05 N.Milwaukee Ave., where in recent years the tenants have been a manufacturer and the office of former alderman Patrick Levar.
The site’s existing C1-1 zoning will accommodate the project, but liquor licenses are required for the planned 52 North Bar & Grill restaurant and Serbian-focused packaged liquor section which will be part of the establishment. In addition, a construction permit is pending.
Project attorney Stephen Berrios said that the owner has acquired recipes from a former sausage producer and that the deli will feature sausages and smoked meats.
There are several diagonal parking spaces in the parkway along the south side of the building, and the possibility of installing a parking meter box there may be explored to allow for a quicker turnover of the spaces, Berrios said. Having metered spaces would deter all-day parking, he said.
Arena held a Jan. 15 community meeting on the project at the 16th (Jefferson Park) Police Station, 5151 N. Milwaukee Ave.
