Local Crime from 16th District 2-5-20
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 7:50 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, in the alley in the 5400 block of West Pensacola Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 22-year-old woman reported that she walking in the alley from Walgreen’s, 4343 N. Central Ave., after purchasing some water when a vehicle approached her and two men demanded she get in the car while pointing a gun, according to police. The woman reported that she refused and started yelling and one of the men took her Walgreen’s bag containing two water bottles and the men fled, police said.
The men were described as black, 5-8 to 5-10 and 150 to 200 pounds. The man with the gun was described as wearing a ski mask and gloves.
A MAN WAS arrested for allegedly threatening a man with a knife at about 2:40 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, in the 6100 block of West Newport Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 35-year-old man reported that the man approached him with a knife and said, "I’m going to finish you, this won’t end well for you," and he called police and the man fled, according to police. The man reported that he followed the man with a wooden stick for self-defense until police arrived to arrest the man, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Roberto Alvarez, age 32, of the 2100 block of North Major Avenue.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 6900 block of North Caldwell Avenue was burglarized between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the side door was forced open and that a humidor with cigars valued at $1,000, Louis Vuitton shoes valued at $1,400 and a Rolex watch were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that two men broke into her apartment in the 3500 block of North Long Avenue at about 10:50 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she was sleeping when she heard a loud banging sound at the rear door of and she then heard a banging sound at her bedroom door and when she opened the door, two men fled through the rear door, according to police.
The men were described as age 18 to 25 and one of them was further described as 200 pounds with black hair and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black jeans.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5000 block of West Ainslie Street was burglarized between 4 and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered a combination safe containing legal documents, identification and 10 gold bars valued at approximately $19,000 was missing, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE of the Moy Lee restaurant, 5346 N. Milwaukee Ave., reported that the restaurant was burglarized between 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, and 3 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that when he returned to the restaurant he discovered the rear door had been pried open, the security camera and cash register were damaged, the phones and alarm wiring had been cut and $1,100 in cash was missing, according to police.
SHOTS were fired at about 5 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, in the 4900 block of West School Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responded to a call of shots fired and discovered seven spent 9mm shell casings, along with a bagel and fresh footprints going westbound into the alley, according to police.
SEVERAL package thefts were reported between 4:20 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, and 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 5200 block of West Grace Street, the 4800 block of West Berwyn Avenue, the 5300 block of West Pensacola Avenue and the 7500 block of North Oconto Avenue, according to police.
CATALYTIC converter thefts were reported between 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, and 5 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 5200 block of West Hutchinson Street, the 5000 block of North Menard Avenue and the 5100 block of North Austin Avenue, according to police.
