Commuters report being robbed, attacked in separate incidents on CTA platforms on Chicago’s NW Side

Two commuters in separate cases recently reported being victimized while on CTA platforms on Chicago’s NW Side.
A local high school student reported that a man took his backpack at about 1:25 p.m. Tues-day, April 7, at the Jefferson Park CTA Blue Line station, 4917 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The student reported that he was on the platform of the train station when a man walked up behind him with his hand in the pocket of his sweatshirt and demanded his belongings, according to police. The student also reported that the man said, “give me your hoodie, I’m not going to do you too dirty, I’ll take your backpack too, you better not call police or I’ll take your phone too,” police said.
The student reported that the man then took his backpack containing his school-issued laptop and fled, according to police.
Surveillance footage showed
a second man stood near the escalator and acted as a lookout during the robbery, according to police.
The reported assailant was described as White/Hispanic, 5-6 and 160 pounds, and wearing a face covering, a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, according to police.
Also in the district, a man reported that a man with a hammer attacked him at about 8:20 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at the Harlem CTA Blue Line station, 5550 N. Harlem Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 37-year-old man reported that he was walking on the platform when the other man lunged at him for no reason, according to police.
The man reported that he spit at the assailant and the man then pulled out a hammer from the waistband of his pants and struck him on the left side of the head, police said.
The man also reported that he
fought with the man and that they fell to the ground, according to police.
A witness reported that during the fight the assailant dropped the hammer so he picked it up and concealed it, police said. The witness reported that he tried to separate the men and that the offender eventually fled from the platform, then south on Harlem, according to police.
The injured man was treated for a laceration to the left side of his head but he refused to be transported to a hospital at the time of the report, police said.
The offender was described as White/Hispanic, age 30, 5-7 and 190 pounds, and wearing a gray vest, black shirt, gray jeans and white flip flops, according to police.
