False Report Charged

A woman was charged with filing a false police report of a man with a gun that led to a large-scale police emergency response that disrupted traffic at about 4:20 p.m. Thursday, March 14, in the 6300 block of West Gunnison Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

Officers responded to a report of a man with a gun at Tayler Glass Doors and Construction, 6340 W. Gunnison St., and were waved down by a woman who reported that she owns the business, that a former employee had locked her out of the business, and that he was armed with a gun, according to police. An emergency response plan initiated, and a SWAT team was mobilized, police said.

The woman gave officers contact information for the man whom she claimed was inside the building, but when the man arrived and was interviewed, it was determined that he was not a former employee and that the woman’s story appeared to be false, according to police. Officers determined that the woman did not see a gun but that her son saw a gun days earlier, police said.

Officers recovered a handgun from the business and placed the woman into custody for a public peace violation and filing a false police report, police said.

The suspect was identified by police as Julie Ann Chambers, age 40, of the 5000 block of North Monitor Avenue.
