Flowers help decorate Six Corners intersection on Chicago’s NW Side

The Six Corners Chamber of Commerce is recognizing the “Beautify Six Corners with Artful Flowers Project,” a grassroots public art initiative created by Chicago artist, entrepreneur and photographer Lee Klawans.
The project started during the “Windy City Hot Dog Fest” on May 30, when Klawans installed hundreds of colorful artificial flowers inside the decorative pylons throughout the iconic Six Corners intersection at Milwaukee Avenue, Irving Park Road and Cicero Avenue.
The pylons help separate motorists from pedestrians.
“What began as a personal effort to brighten the neighborhood has quickly become a beloved attraction for residents, shoppers, diners and visitors. Since its debut, the floral installation has transformed an everyday streetscape into a vibrant public art display, encouraging people to stop, take photographs and experience Six Corners in a new way,” the chamber said.
The chamber added, “The project has generated enthusiastic community support and has become a symbol of neighborhood creativity and civic pride.”
The installation was initially funded by Klawans himself, but to maintain the artwork and expand future public art projects, he later launched the “Beautify Six Corners with Artful Flowers GoFundMe campaign,” according to the chamber.
Funds raised help replace flowers lost to weather or vandalism, maintain the existing installation, and support additional neighborhood beautification efforts throughout the Six Corners community.
“When we launched our public art and mural initiative, we hoped it would inspire others to become part of the creative process,” chamber president Asghar Khan said. “We have been amazed by the number of volunteers who have stepped forward with their own ideas, talents, and even their own funding to help beautify Six Corners. Lee Klawans’ ‘Beautify Six Corners with Artful Flowers Project’ is a wonderful example of the creativity, generosity and community spirit that make our neighborhood so special.”
