Fort Knox Studios, Lake Effect Brewing, OLV among local buildings in architectural fest





The area buildings participating in the annual “Open House Chicago” architectural festival are Fort Knox Studios, Lake Effect Brewing, Muslim Community Center, Our Lady of Victory Church, Portage Lofts Arts Center and Portage Theater.

The free festival, which will feature more than 200 buildings in Chicago and adjacent suburbs, will take place Saturday, Oct. 14, and Saturday, Oct. 15. The Northwest Chicago Historical Society and Six Corners Association are local partners in the festival.

Fort Knox Studios, 4245 N. Knox Ave., will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. At 160,000 square feet, it is believed to be the world’s largest recording studio and includes shared working spaces used by creative start-up businesses.

Lake Effect, 4727 W. Montrose Ave., Suite C, will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Owner Clint Bautz opened the brewery in 2011.

The Muslim center, 4380 N. Elston Ave., will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. It is located inside the former 1,300-seat Rivoli Theater.

Our Lady of Victory, 5212 W. Agatite Ave., will be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. The building consists of a lower church constructed in 1928 and an upper church constructed in 1954.

The Portage Lofts, 4041 N. Milwaukee Ave., will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The former furniture store building is home to the Filament Theater, National Veterans Art Museum, Art Side Out Studio and Mask Shop and Chicago Ballet Center.

The Portage Theater, 4041 N. Milwaukee Ave., will be open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The theater features an Art Deco lobby and a Beaux-Arts auditorium.
