Irving-Elston shooting, Pulaski-Lawrence armed robbery reported; shootings up 118% in 17th District in 2020

A 30-year-old man was shot in the back and leg while driving at about 3:40 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, in the 3600 block of West Irving Park Road, and in another incident a fast-food restaurant was robbed at gunpoint at about 12:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11, in the 4800 block of North Pulaski Road, according to the Chicago Police Department Office of News Affairs.
A dark-colored vehicle reportedly pulled alongside the man’s vehicle, and an occupant shot at the man’s vehicle, according to police. The man was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital, police said.
Meanwhile, a man wearing a white face mask, a black jacket and surgical gloves and displaying a possible rifle or shotgun took money from a cashier at the restaurant and then fled on foot, police said.
This year through Dec. 6 in the 17th (Albany Park) Police District, there have been 213 reported robberies, up from 153 during the same period in 2019, representing a 39-percent increase. There also have been 61 shooting incidents compared to 28 during the same period in 2019.
