Local Crime from 16th District 2-7-18
A MAN REPORTED that he was attacked at about 5:20 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, in the 5600 block of North Austin Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 38-year-old man reported that he went to an acquaintance’s home to gather some of his belongings and that when he arrived, he saw that the man was waiting for him in the front hallway and that he hit him in the right side of his face with a metal object he suspected to be a baseball bat or a pipe, according to police.
The man was transported to Community First Medical Center and treated for serious injuries, police said.
A woman reported that her purse was stolen at about 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, in the 5600 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 57-year-old woman reported that while she was walking a man approached her from behind, grabbed her purse containing passports and identification cards and ran away north on North Central Avenue, according to police.
The man was described as black, between 5-8 and 6-0, between 165 and 180 pounds, and wearing a black hooded jacket and black pants, police said.
AN EMPLOYEE reported that a man took items from the Convenient Etc. store, 3723 N. Harlem Ave., at about 2:10 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that a man entered the store and asked for a variety of lottery tickets and cigarettes, which he placed on the counter, and that when he turned around to retrieve another pack of cigarettes the man asked for, he took the lottery tickets and cigarettes valued at $85 from the counter and ran out of the store, according to police.
The suspect was described as white and age 30 to 35, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was stolen at about 4:25 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, from the 5400 block of West Montrose Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he parked his white 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee with its engine still running in front of White Star Cleaners, 5401 W. Montrose Ave., and that when he returned, he discovered the vehicle was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her apartment in the 5300 block of West Melrose Street was burglarized between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the rear door had been forced open and that a Sony PlayStation 4 video game system valued at $300, a tablet computer valued at $200 and a bottle of cologne valued at $200 were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that the garage of her residence in the 6100 block of North McClellan Avenue was burglarized between 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, and 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she approached her garage she discovered the door had been broken and that a snow blower valued at $1,500, a grill valued at $1,000, a weed whacker valued at $150 and a leaf blower valued at $150 were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that the garage of her residence in the 6700 block of North Odell Avenue was burglarized between 11:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, and Friday, Feb. 2, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to her garage she discovered the rear overhead door had been forced open and that tools valued at $1,500, a custom motorcycle wheel valued at $1,000, two compact refrigerators valued at $400, a Stihl chain saw valued at $90, a leaf blower valued at $80, five extension cords valued at $50, a propane gas tank valued at $30 and a gas can valued at $20 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his residence in the 6700 block of North Octavia Avenue was burglarized between 3 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his garage he discovered that a snow blower valued at $350, tools valued at $300 and a tool chest valued at $200 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his residence in the 4300 block of North Mason Avenue was burglarized between 7:50 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his garage he discovered that the side door had been broken in and that a blue women’s mountain bicycle valued at $500 was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his residence in the 7800 block of West Farragut Avenue was burglarized between 1 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his garage, he discovered the door had been broken in and that off-road five bicycles valued at $8,000 and 20 power tools valued at $7,000 were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her vehicle was burglarized between 7 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, while it was parked in the 5600 block of West Dakin Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to her vehicle she discovered that the rear windshield had been broken and that a Louis Vuitton tote bag valued at $1,600, an iPad valued at $1,300, a dental retainer valued at $900 and $300 in cash were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was burglarized between 10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, and 7 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, in driveway of his residence in the 7200 block of North Olcott Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his vehicle, he discovered a Hewlett-Packard laptop valued at $2,000 and a black messenger bag with Chicago Cubs and Blackhawks logos were missing, according to police.
The man reported that his vehicle was unlocked at the time of the incident, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was burglarized between midnight and 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, in the 7200 block of North Olcott Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his vehicle he discovered the side of the vehicle had been damaged and that the rear passenger window had been broken, and that a MacBook Pro laptop computer valued at $2,400, two Seagate hard drives valued at $300 and a North Face backpack valued at $100 were missing, according to police.
SEVERAL vehicle thefts were reported between Jan. 29 and Feb. 4, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Incidents of stolen vehicles were reported in the 4800 block of North Normandy Avenue, the 4400 block of North Major Avenue, the 5700 block of West Ainslie Street and the 5500 block of North Mango Avenue, according to police.
