Local Crime from 16th District 1-15-20
AN EMPLOYEE of the Shell Gas station, 7201 W. Higgins Ave., reported that the station was robbed at about 1:50 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that a man entered the store, asked for a pack of cigarettes, and pointed a gun at him and demanded money, according to police. The employee reported that he handed the man between $150 and $200 in cash and that the man fled west on Higgins, police said.
The man was described as black, age 30 to 40, 5-8 to 5-9, and wearing a black hooded jacket and black pants.
AN EMPLOYEE of the My Mart Mobil gas station, 5726 N. Nagle Ave., reported that the business was robbed at about 12:45 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that a man entered the store, asked for a pack of cigarettes, pointed a gun at him and demanded money, according to police. The employee reported that he handed over an undisclosed amount of cash from the register and the man fled south toward North Avondale Avenue, police said. A home surveillance camera in the area showed the man entered a silver 2-door vehicle and fled northbound on North Avondale Avenue, according to police.
The man was described as white/Hispanic, age 40 to 45, 5-10 to 6-0, between 175 and 185 pounds, and wearing a black-and-white Chicago Bulls cap, a black hooded sweatshirt and black jeans.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, at her home in the 5400 block of North East River Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 34-year-old woman reported that a man was visiting her apartment when he pointed a gun at her and demanded she give him money, according to police. The woman reported that when she hesitated to give him the money, the man slapped her across the right side of her face, and she gave him $800 in cash and the man fled, according to police.
The man was described as white, age 33, 210 pounds, bald, with brown eyes and wearing a gray, puffy jacket and blue jeans.
A MAN WAS arrested after he allegedly stole items at about 1:45 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, from the J.J. Peppers store, 3555 N. Central Ave., and attacked an employee, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An employee reported that the man left the store without paying for a bottle of water and two sandwiches and when he tried to stop him, the man pushed him, according to police. The employee reported he defended himself with a chain and struck the man on the head, causing a laceration, and a customer helped to detain the man for police, police said. The man was treated at Illinois Masonic Hospital, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Daniel Ortega, age 32, of the 2900 block of North Natchez Avenue.
A MAN REPORTED that he was threatened at about 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, in the 5400 block of North Mulligan Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 51-year-old man reported that he was parking his vehicle when a man approached him, pointed a knife at him and told him, "I’ll cut up your car if you park near me again," according to police.
The man was described as white, age 30 to 40, 5-6, 170 pounds and wearing a black and white skullcap and a black jacket.
EMPLOYEES reported that the Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant, 6200 W. Belmont Ave., was burglarized between 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, and 6:20 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Employees reported that they opened the store and discovered that the rear door was forced open and that $3,150 in cash was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he was attacked at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, in the 7100 block of North McAlpin Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that his neighbor came to his front door irate over a parking dispute and pushed him against the hand rail of his porch twice, putting the man in fear for his safety, according to police.
