Local Crime from 16th District 1-28-15
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 10:20 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, in the 4900 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 59-year-old woman reported that two men approached from behind and that one of them punched her in the mouth, knocking her teeth out, knocked her to the ground and took $40 from her, according to police.
A TEENAGER reported that she was sexually assaulted at about 6:25 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, in the 7800 block of West Forest Preserve Drive, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 17-year-old teen reported that a man began following her in the 7700 block of West Addison Street and that he approached her, grabbed her groin, exposed himself and asked her to perform a sexual act on him, according to police. The girl said that she ran to a friend’s house and the man fled, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, in the 7300 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 26-year-old man reported that a man got out of a car, punched him in the head, said that he was in a gang and demanded his jacket and backpack, according to police. The man said that he ran away and that a second man got out of the vehicle and they both chased him and took the items, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed 7:40 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, in the 5000 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 21-year-old man reported that after he got off a bus, four teenagers approached him and one of them grabbed put him in a chokehold and a second teen fought with him until he sprayed them with a chemical spray, according to police. The man said that he discovered that his wallet containing $20 was missing, police said.
AN EMPLOYEE reported that the Dollar Resale Plus store, 6043 W. Irving Park Road, was robbed at about 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 25-year-old clerk reported that a man displayed a handgun in his waistband and took an undisclosed amount of cash, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE reported that the Subway restaurant, 4070 N. Milwaukee Ave., was robbed at about 9:25 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 32-year-old employee reported that a man ordered a sandwich and then said that he didn’t have enough money to pay for it and left the store, according to police. The employee said that the man waited across the street until all the customers left and returned to the store, ordered a sandwich, pointed a gun to his head and took $136 from the cash register, police said.
A TEENAGER reported that he was robbed at about 10:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, in the 5400 block of West Agatite Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 16-year-old teen reported that a woman asked to use his phone and when she returned it to him a man got out of a car driven by a second man, displayed a handgun and took his cell phone valued at $550, according to police.
THREE PEOPLE were charged with obstruction of charges following their arrest at about 10:35 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, in the 3400 block of North Long Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers who responded to a report of a hit-and-run accident found a damaged vehicle with a bumper lying in the street, according to police. A sport utility vehicle then stopped, and the female driver got out of the car and asked them for directions to the expressway, police said.
As the woman was attempting to distract the officers, a man ran up, took the bumper and fled, according to police. Officers chased the man to the 5400 block of West Roscoe Street and placed him into custody and then arrested the man and the woman, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as Erick Mendoza, age 20, of the 2600 block of West Wrightwood Avenue, Esteban Munoz, age 20, of the 5900 block of West Addison Street, and a 17-year-old female.
NORWOOD PARK Ace Hardware store, 5907 N. Northwest Hwy., was burglarized at about 10:20 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers who responded to a burglary alarm discovered that a brick had been thrown through the front glass door, according to police. An employee reported that a surveillance tape showed that a man broke the window and took two drills valued at $180, two impact drivers valued at $260 and $40 in cash, police said.
AN 80-YEAR-OLD woman reported that a man broke into her home in the 3800 block of North Pacific Avenue at about 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she walked into the front room and saw a man who said that there was a fire and that she should go downstairs to the basement, according to police. The woman said that when she told the man that there was no fire, he yanked the phone cord out of the wall and she became frightened and ran to her neighbor’s home, police said. The woman said that she later discovered that jewelry was missing, police said.
A similar incident occurred at about 2:50 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at a home in the 6700 block of North Oxford Avenue, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5400 block of North Mobile Avenue was burglarized between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear door had been forced open and that a Louis Vuitton handbag valued at $5,100, two iPhones valued at $1,850, three laptop computers valued at $2,000, a television set, jewelry valued at $14,500 and $7,000 in cash were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 6200 block of West Catalpa Avenue was burglarized between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the back door was open and that a watch valued at $1,200, a necklace valued at $300, a camera valued at $300 and $2,300 in cash were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that a man broke into her home in the 5300 block of North Neenah Avenue at about 9:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she looked out her window and saw two men outside and that about 20 minutes later she discovered that one of them was standing in her hallway, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 5500 block of West Addison Street was burglarized between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the front door was open and that two laptop computers valued at $425, two wedding rings valued at $3,000 and $400 in cash were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5100 block of North Nagle Avenue was burglarized between 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, and 9:30 p.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear door had been forced open and that 20 pieces of gold jewelry valued at $10,000 and two statues valued at $2,000 were missing, according to police.

The 59-year-old woman reported that she entered her home and discovered a man running from the front room to the basement, according to police. The woman said that a ruby valued at $5,000 was missing, police said.
