Local Crime from 16th District 1-9-19
A TEENAGER was shot at about 12:45 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, reportedly in the 5300 block of North Magnet Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responded to a call of a person shot in the 5400 block of North Marmora Avenue and discovered a 16-year-old male teenager lying on a bed inside a home with a gunshot wound to his right arm, according to police. A witness at the address reported that the teen was on his way to their residence to assist them with feeding the homeless, and that he arrived at the residence with gunshot wounds, police said.
The teenager reported that while he was walking past an alley in the 5300 block of North Magnet Avenue, he saw a blue 4-door vehicle with tinted windows, heard a loud "pop," felt a pain in his right arm and continued to walk toward the residence of his friend on Marmora, according to police.
Officers reported that they were unable to locate a crime scene on North Magnet Avenue, police said.
The teen was transported to Lutheran General Hospital in critical condition and treated for gunshot wounds to his right arm and right chest, according to police.
A MAN ATTEMPTED to strike police officers with his vehicle at about 12:25 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, after he allegedly burglarized an apartment in the 5200 block of North Neenah Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A witness reported that he saw a man enter and exit through a rear window of an apartment unit, and that the man was sitting inside a gray 2019 Toyota Camry automobile in the parking lot of the building, according to police. Officers approached the man’s vehicle and he reversed the car, ignored their commands, accelerated toward them and drove away westbound in an alley in the 6500 block of West Higgins Avenue, police said.
A resident of the apartment reported that she discovered that $1,000 in cash and a gold necklace with a cross and a heart pendant were missing, according to police.
The man was described as black, about 6-0 and age 40, with a mustache and wearing a black knit hat, a black hooded jacket and light blue jeans, according to police. Police are investigating the incident.
AN EMPLOYEE of the Addison Superette Food and Liquor store, 6122 W. Addison St., reported that two men robbed the business at gunpoint at about 11 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that two men wearing masks and gloves entered the store, one pointed a handgun at him and hit him in the head with an unknown object, and took five bottles of cognac valued at $200, three cartons of cigarettes valued at $240, the digital video recorder from the store’s surveillance system valued at $500 and approximately $500 in cash, according to police.
The man was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital, police said.
A WOMAN reported that two men attacked her and attempted to lure her into their vehicle at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, in the 3200 block of North Natchez Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that while she was walking on the sidewalk, a red Jeep automobile drove next to her and two men said, "Get in the car, we’ll give you a ride," according to police. The woman reported that after she walked away from the men, one of the men exited the vehicle, approached her from behind, pulled her hair and grabbed her shirt before she broke free and ran away, police said.
The assailant was described as white/Hispanic, age 23 to 25, with facial hair and wearing a black hooded Adidas jacket. The second man was described as black, age 23 to 25 and wearing a gray hooded jacket.
A MAN REPORTED that two men stole his vehicle at about 8:55 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, at the Mobil gas station, 7159 W. Higgins Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 48-year-old man reported that he exited his maroon 1991 Buick Skylark with the engine on and the key inside the ignition and entered the gas station, and that after he heard the sound of a car door being shut, he looked through the window and saw two men inside his vehicle drive away northbound on West Harlem Avenue, according to police.
The men were described as black, age 18 to 20, between 5- 4 and 6-0, between 140 and 160 pounds. One of the men was wearing a black hooded jacket and the other man was wearing a black and yellow hooded jacket and black jeans.
A MAN REPORTED that two men attacked him and stole his vehicle at about 3:10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, in the 4800 block of West Patterson Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 59-year-old man reported that while he was cleaning snow from his gold 2005 Chevrolet Malibu with the engine on and the key inside the ignition, two men approached him and asked for a cigarette before one of the men grabbed him by his neck and placed him in a headlock and the other man entered the front driver’s side of his vehicle, and that both men drove away in his vehicle, according to police.
One of the men was described as white/Hispanic, age 21 to 24, between 5-5 and 5-6, between 140 and 145 pounds, and wearing a black knit hat, a black jacket, black pants and black gloves. The other man was described as white, age 21 to 24, about 5-8 and wearing a green jacket.
A MAN WAS charged with aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon and battery following his arrest at about 10:20 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at Spirits and Glass, 6111 W. Addison St., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An employee reported that the man entered his business and appeared to be intoxicated, and that after he asked him to leave, the man displayed a handgun and said that he could shoot him and his staff with it, according to police. The employee reported that he grabbed the man’s arms while another employee removed his weapon, and that the man kicked him in the face while he detained him and waited for officers to arrive, police said. Officers reported that they arrested the man after they recovered a Powerline .177-caliber BB gun, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Jose Moreno, age 52, of the 5800 block of West Addison Street.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5600 block of West Irving Park Road was burglarized between midnight and 7 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he discovered that the back door of his porch had been broken and that a bag containing various tools valued at $1,300 was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 3500 block of North Normandy Avenue was burglarized between noon Wednesday, Jan. 2, and 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he discovered that the side door had been forced open and that a refrigerator valued at $1,000, a stove valued at $500 and a digital thermostat valued at $200 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his apartment in the 3900 block of North Central Avenue was burglarized between 10 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31, and 4 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear door had been opened and that a 60-inch Samsung television set valued at $800, a 60-inch Emerson television set valued at $600 and a Sony Play Station 4 video game system valued at $300 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5900 block of West Patterson Avenue was burglarized between 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 25, and 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his vacant property that is currently listed for sale he discovered the lock box containing a master key to the residence was missing and the rear doors of the residence had been removed from their hinges and that a Samsung gas range stove valued at $800 was missing, a dish washer had been uninstalled and a refrigerator had been partially disassembled, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her residence in the 3300 block of North Normandy Avenue was burglarized between 5 p.m. and 6:40 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the front door had been forced open and that jewelry and $1,900 in cash were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her apartment in the 6700 block of West Irving Park Road was burglarized between 6:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that a neighbor called her and asked her if she knew a side window of her apartment was opened and that when she arrived home she discovered jewelry valued at $3,490 and two laptop computers valued at $1,500 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that a man broke into his apartment in the 4800 block of North Central Avenue between 3 p.m. and 3:20 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that as he was approaching his apartment he saw a man exit through his front door and run away and that he discovered a front window had been opened but no items were missing, according to police.
The man was described as black, age 30 to 35, about 6-2 and 185 pounds, and wearing a black jacket and a gray hooded jacket.
SEVERAL vehicle thefts were reported between Jan. 1 and Jan. 6, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Stolen vehicles were reported in the 5400 block of North Parkside Avenue, the 3500 block of North Rutherford Avenue, the 6000 block of West Giddings Street, the 5200 block of West Cornelia Avenue, the 4900 block of West Sunnyside Avenue, the 5800 block of North Mobile Avenue, the 5100 block of West Ainslie Street and the 4900 block of North Major Avenue, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her vehicle was burglarized between 4:05 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, and 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, while it was parked in the 5200 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to her vehicle she discovered that the front passenger side window had been broken and that a purse valued at $100 containing keys to her vehicle was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was burglarized between 5:30 p.m. and 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, while it was parked in the 3700 block of North Plainfield Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his vehicle he discovered that the rear passenger side window had been broken and that an Apple MacBook Pro laptop computer valued at $3,100, laptop computer cables valued at $150 and a laptop computer bag valued at $45 were missing, according to police.
FOUR catalytic converter thefts were reported between Jan. 3 and Jan. 4, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Stolen catalytic converters were reported in the 4700 block of North Lavergne Avenue, the 5500 and 5600 blocks of West Wilson Avenue, the 4400 and 4500 blocks of North Mason Avenue and the 4900 block of West Dakin Street, according to police.
