Local Crime from 16th District 10-16-19
A MAN REPORTED that shots were fired in an apparent road rage incident at about 1:20 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, in the 6900 block of West Higgins Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 22-year-old man reported that he was driving west on Higgins with his girlfriend when he tried to pass a black Ford Expedition sport utility vehicle and the male driver became irate and pointed a handgun, and that when he tried to follow the Ford to record the license plate the man fired numerous shots at him before the Ford drove away east on Higgins, according to police. No property damage or injuries were reported, police said.
SHOTS were fired at about 3 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, in the 4400 block of North Lamon Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 37-year-old man reported that he was walking when he saw a black sedan driving south on Lamon and firing gunshots at a silver sport utility vehicle following behind, and that later in the morning he discovered two spent 9mm bullet casings in the intersection of Lamon and Pensacola avenues, according to police. No property damage or injuries were reported, police said.
A MAN WAS arrested for allegedly robbing people at gunpoint at about 5:40 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, on a CTA Blue Line train near the Cumberland Blue Line station, 5800 N. Cumberland Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Two men, age 48 and 54, reported that a man was allegedly walking on the train asking numerous passengers for money while pointing a handgun at people, and the 54-year-old man reported that when the man asked him for money he grabbed the handgun from his hand, unloaded the gun and contacted CTA personnel, who contacted officers that arrested the man at the station, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Trimaine R. Anderson, age 30, of the 5800 block of W. West End Avenue.
A MAN REPORTED that a man attacked him and damaged his vehicle in an apparent road rage incident at about 11 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, in the 4000 block of North Cumberland Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 31-year-old man reported that he was driving past a light-colored Nissan Versa that was swerving between lanes when the Nissan driver became irate and caught up to him, brandished a metal pipe and then smashed the right side of his windshield and drove away south on Cumberland, according to police.
The man was described as white, about age 40, and wearing construction-related clothing.
A WOMAN reported that a man followed her two daughters and exposed himself at about 3:40 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, in the 5700 block of North Moody Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that her two daughters notified her that a man in a red Dodge pickup truck was slowly driving next to them as they walked home, according to police. The woman reported that she then saw the truck and pulled her own vehicle in front to stop it, and that when she confronted the driver she saw his pants were down and he drove away, police said.
The man was described as white, aged in his early to mid 50’s, and bald.
A MAN WAS arrested at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, for allegedly breaking into a vehicle in the 5100 block of North Mont Clare Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A woman reported that she saw a man enter her neighbor’s car parked on the street and that when she confronted the man he ran away west in an alley, according to police. Officers detained a man fitting a description at the Walgreens pharmacy, 7155 W. Foster Ave., and he was arrested after the owner identified in his possession a windbreaker, a sunglasses case and two pairs of sunglasses that were inside her Ford and her parked other vehicle, police said.
The man was transported to AMITA Health Resurrection Medical Center where he allegedly tried to escape custody and fled the hospital grounds before he was detained, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Mikita Dziamchuk, age 23, of the 500 block of Stone Gate Circle, Shaumburg.
SEVERAL burglaries to vehicles were reported between 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, and 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Vehicles were burglarized in the 3700 block of North Lockwood Avenue, the 3800 block of North Octavia Avenue, the 4800 block of West Henderson Street, the 4900 block of North Nordica Avenue, the 4900 block of West Warwick Avenue, the 5300 block of North Delphia Avenue, the 5400 block of North Harlem Avenue, the 5700 block of North Oleander Avenue, the 6300 block of West Berenice Avenue and the 6600 block of North Oliphant Avenue, according to police.
A POSTAL worker reported that a mail van was stolen at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, in the 3400 block of North Overhill Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that as he was unloading packages he left the keys in the ignition when a man entered the vehicle and drove away south on Overhill, according to police. US Postal Service police officers reported that the van had been tracked to a location in Elmwood Park, police said.
The man was described as white, age 30 to 40, and wearing all-gray clothing.
SEVERAL stolen vehicles were reported between 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, and 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Vehicles were reported stolen in the 3600 block of North Nottingham Avenue, the 4000 block of North Lavergne Avenue, the 4900 block of North Sayre Avenue, the 5100 block of West Carmen Avenue, the 5300 block of West Berenice Avenue, the 5700 block of West Seminole Street, the 5900 block of West Leland Avenue and the 8700 block of West Summerdale Avenue, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that the catalytic converter to his vehicle was stolen at about 5:20 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, in the 5200 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he saw two men remove the catalytic converter from his parked 2000 Honda Accord and flee in a silver Nissan sedan, according to police.
In related news, another man reported that the catalytic converter to his vehicle was stolen at about 6 a.m. that same day, in the 4000 block of North Lawler Avenue, police said. The man reported that when he stepped outside he saw a person speeding away in a white or gray Nissan sedan, and he later discovered that the converter to his car was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his car was vandalized between 10:40 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, and 7 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, in the 5000 block of West Patterson Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his parked car he discovered that the driver’s side window was shattered, which he believed was caused by a shot from a BB gun, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that gang graffiti was sprayed onto the property of Rosedale Park, 6312 W. Rosedale Ave., before 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The supervisor reported that park patrons notified him of graffiti they saw sprayed in red paint on the park fieldhouse and sidewalk, according to police.
GLAD CLEANERS, 6412 N. Central Ave., was burglarized at about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An employee of a neighboring business reported that he discovered a broken window to the door of the cleaning business and the owner showed surveillance video footage that showed a man entering the store, stealing about $46 in cash from two cash registers and fleeing through the front door and west through an alley, according to police.
The man was described as wearing dark clothing, a knit hat and gloves.
A MAN REPORTED that his neighbor’s house in the 4100 block of North Melvina Avenue was burglarized between 5:15 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he was outside when he saw unknown men carrying a black bag while exiting his neighbor’s house and entering a red Ford Ranger pickup truck with white "Power Washer" lettering on the side and two additional men inside, and that the truck fled south on Melvina, according to police.
One of the men was described as white/Hispanic, about 5-7 or 5-8, 165 to 170 pounds, and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, and another man as about 5-7 or 5-8, 195 to 200 pounds, and wearing a black ski mask and gray hooded sweatshirt.
A MAN REPORTED that the common areas of a condo building in the 3500 block of North Harlem Avenue were burglarized at about 1 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Surveillance camera footage captured a man walking into the vestibule of the building complex and ripping a mailbox from the wall, giving him access to a master key, and the man then entered a second mailroom to steal numerous pieces of mail before he proceeded to the bicycle storage room and the shared garage to steal two bicycles valued at $9,500 total, according to police.
The man was described as white and age 18 to 28.
A WOMAN reported that her house in the 5700 block of West Henderson Street was burglarized before 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that an unknown amount of women’s jewelry with colored gemstones and rocks was missing from, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that the garage to her home in the 5000 block of West Windsor Avenue was burglarized between 9 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that her garage’s side door was damaged and the overhead garage door was hanging from its hinges and that a drill valued at $150 and a toolbox valued at $30 were missing, according to police.
