Local Crime from 16th District 10-18-17
A WITNESS reported that a car exploded at about 5 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, in the 6600 block of North Odell Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 58-year-old man reported that he was walking his dog and saw an older model four-door car driven by a man wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt stop next to a parked 2016 Ford Mustang, and that when he walked down the block he heard an explosion and squealing tires, according to police.
Detectives said that the incident was confirmed to be arson from an unknown explosive device, which shattered the car’s windows, created a hole in the undercarriage and shot windshield debris that damaged the hood of an adjacently parked 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe registered to the same owner as the Mustang. No injuries were reported, according to police.
A MAN WAS shot at about 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, in an alley in the 5000 block of West Roscoe Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 25-year-old man reported that he was riding his bicycle through an alley when a man pointed a handgun at him and shot him, according to police. Officers discovered the man lying in the alley with one gunshot wound in the lower left leg, two in the right buttock and one in the left side of the torso, police said. The man was treated at Illinois Masonic Hospital, police said.
A TEENAGER reported that his friend was hit by a car and threatened with a handgun in an alleged gang-related incident at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, in an alley in the 7700 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 14-year-old male reported that he finished playing basketball with a 19-year-old man and as they were walking a man in a white Jeep Cherokee looked at them and that the vehicle struck the 19-year-old, according to police. The teen then reported that the driver exited the car, brandished a chrome semiautomatic handgun and threatened them, police said.
The man was described as white/ Hispanic, about 5’9 and 220 pounds, with long black hair, an olive complexion, and wearing a black baseball cap, a black shirt, black shorts and black gym shoes.
A MAN REPORTED that he was shot with a BB gun and threatened with a handgun at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, in an alley in the 5100 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 35-year-old man reported that he was walking when a man in a minivan yelled at him to come over and that when he ran through an alley the man chased him and that he felt several objects strike him while he was running, according to police. The man reported that the man then cornered him in the alley, pointed a weapon at him and told him he fired a BB gun, then displayed another black handgun that the man claimed was real, and threatened him for allegedly defacing his garage with graffiti in the past, police said.
The man was described as white/ Hispanic, age 20 to 25, about 5-11 and 200 pounds, with brown eyes, short black hair, and a lighter complexion.
TWO WOMEN reported that their cars were shot at between midnight and 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, in the 6500 block of West Foster Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 39-year-old woman reported discovering a bullet hole on the rear driver-side door of her 2017 Honda Civic, which went through to her rear passenger-side door, according to police. A 29-year-old woman from the same area reported discovering a bullet hole through the window on the rear driver-side door of her 2016 Dodge Dart, and another bullet hole lower on the same door, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that a man broke his vehicle’s window and threatened him in the 5200 block of West Lawrence Avenue at about 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 61-year-old man reported that a man was driving aggressively behind him and that the man drove next to him and yelled at him, punched through his front passenger-side window, and stated he was in a gang and threatened to kill him, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her vehicle was shot at at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, in the 3600 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 59-year-old woman reported that she was driving when she discovered her back windshield shattered, and that the mechanic who fixed the windshield later that day found a bullet on the floor in the rear of her car, according to police.
A POSTAL WORKER reported that a man attacked her at about 12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, in the 8600 block of West Foster Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 61-year-old woman reported that she was delivering a package when a man approached her in the outdoor hallway and tried to claim a package and that when she refused to give him the package unless he had the recipient’s photo identification the man shoved her into a wall, took the package, and fled in a red Mazda car, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that the garage of her home in the 5700 block of West Henderson Street was burglarized between 8:20 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 55-year-old woman reported that she discovered the garage door open and that a table saw valued at $1,200, a lawnmower, snow blower and leaf blower valued at $970 total, and two bicycles valued at $600 total were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5200 block of West Montrose Avenue was burglarized between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 34-year-old man reported that he discovered that his apartment’s door and side window forced open, and discovered missing a Visio television set, a Play Station 4 video game console, and four games, according to police.
