Local Crime from 16th District 10-19-2016
A MAN WAS shot at about 11:55 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, in the 5400 block of West Montrose Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 34-year-old man reported at Community First Medical Center and that he was a passenger in a vehicle driven by his 30-year-old girlfriend west bound on Montrose and that he saw a silver or gold Jeep Grand Cherokee following them, according to police. The man reported that when they stopped at a red light at Montrose and Linder avenues, the vehicle drove up to the passenger side and someone fired several shots at him, striking him in the right arm, the groin, the buttocks and both legs, police said. The man was transferred to Illinois Masonic Hospital, police said.
A witness reported that he heard 10 shots and saw a Toyota Camry moving slowly west on Montrose, a Nissan Pathfinder speed past the vehicle, and a Jeep Cherokee with tinted windows speed north on Linder Avenue, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 4:45 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, in the back yard of her home in the 3200 block of North Orange Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 78-year-old woman reported that as she was working in her yard, when a man entered the yard through the back gate, pulled a chain and a cross valued at $250 from her neck and knocked her to the ground, according to police.
A TEENAGER reported that he was attacked at about 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, in the 3200 block of North Menard Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 16-year-old teen reported that a man attempted to take his cell phone, punched him in the face and struck him in the rib cage with a baseball bat, according to police. The teen said that when he fought back, a second man got out of a vehicle with a pit bull and the dog bit him on the lower leg, police said.
The teen reported that he kicked the dog in the head and that the man put the dog back in the vehicle and the two men put him in the trunk of the car, drove to the 6100 block of West Henderson Street and put him in a garbage can, according to police. The youth was treated at Community First Medical Center, police said.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, in the 5800 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 70-year-old woman reported that after she got off a bus a man took a necklace from her neck and fled, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 11:45 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, in the 5500 block of West Addison Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 46-year-old woman reported that as she was waiting for a bus, a man pushed her and took her wallet containing $115, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at his home in the 4000 block of North Leamington Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 53-year-old man reported that when he returned home he discovered a man inside who fought with him and took his wallet containing his social security card, credit cards and his driver’s license, according to police.
A TEENAGER reported that he was robbed at about 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, in the 6900 block of West School Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 15-year-old teen reported that he met a man on Facebook who wanted to purchase shoes from him and he agreed to meet the man, according to police. The teen said that while the man was looking at the shoes, a second man struck him on the back of the head and knocked him to the ground, and that he dropped his bicycle and his backpack and fled, police said.
The teen reported that when he returned to the scene the shoes valued at $250, his bicycle valued at $250 and the backpack containing a speaker and a BB gun were missing, police said.
THE MANAGER of D F Wireless, 5244 N. Elston Ave., reported that a man took about $20,000 from a safe between 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 31-year-old man reported that when he arrived at his office he discovered that a safe was open and that several bags containing $20,000 in cash were missing, according to police. The man said that a security tape shows a man walked through the loading dock of the warehouse and into the offices, pulled the handle of a safe until it opened, hid the bags of money under his shirt and fled out the front door, police said.
A COUPLE reported that their home in the 5600 block of West Leland Avenue was burglarized between 6 p.m. and 8:25 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The couple reported that when they returned home they discovered that four laptop computers valued at $5,500, a piggybank containing $30, $1,000 worth of jewelry, keys, a cell phone, two computer bags and a Nintendo Wii video game console valued at $350 were missing, according to police. The man reported that he was not sure if he had locked the front door, police said.
A WOMAN reported that her purse was stolen from her home in the 4800 block of North Mulligan Avenue between 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she put her purse on a counter and walked around her home, heard a loud sound and then discovered that the purse containing credit cards and $200 was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her company’s car was burglarized between 1:30 p.m. and 3:25 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, while it was parked in the 7600 block of West Catalpa Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 41-year-old woman reported that she discovered that the passenger-side window was broken and that an iPhone valued at $750 and her purse containing $250 were missing, according to police.
A TEENAGER reported that two men broke into her mother’s home in the 3600 block of North Overhill Avenue at about 1:50 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 17-year-old teen reported that when she returned home she discovered two men holding a television set in the basement who fled without the set after she confronted them, according to police.
TWO MEN reported that their home in the 5900 block of North Austin Avenue was burglarized between 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, and 12:25 a.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The men reported that when they returned home they discovered that a door was unlocked and that a television set, two video game consoles, a laptop computer and documents were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 4800 block of North Linder Avenue was burglarized between 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, and 12:30 a.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the front door was open and that a makeup bag valued at $90, face cream valued at $60, binoculars valued at $80, a bracelet valued at $90, a necklace valued at $800 and a watch valued at $400 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 6300 block of West School Street was burglarized between 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, and 7:30 a.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the air conditioning unit had been pushed in and that two cameras valued a $500, three camera lenses valued at $300, a watch valued at $1,000 and 50 German coins were missing, according to police.

The couple reported that when they returned home they discovered that the back door was open and that jewelry valued at $100, an iPad valued at $100, a tablet valued at $100, a camera valued at $100 and $800 in cash were missing, according to police.
