Local Crime from 16th District 10-2-19
EMPLOYEES of the Fifth Third Bank, 5670 N. Milwaukee Ave., reported that the bank was robbed at about 2:50 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An employee reported that a man entered the bank, jumped on the counter and handed a note demanding money and claiming that he was armed, and took $2,400 in cash before he ran away west with a second man who was standing in the bank vestibule, according to police.
Both men were described as wearing sunglasses, blue jeans, black boots, white surgical masks and gloves. The robber was further described as white/Hispanic, about age 25, 5-2 to 5-5, 130 to 150 pounds, and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, and the possible lookout as age 28 to 32, 5-8 to 5-10, 170 to 180 pounds, and wearing a red hooded sweatshirt.
A WOMAN reported that shots were fired in a road rage-related incident at about 11:50 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, in the 6000 block of North Caldwell Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 25-year-old woman reported that she was driving her 2015 Chrysler sedan with a male passenger east on Caldwell to get onto the Edens Expressway when the passenger of a passing light silver Dodge vehicle fired six to seven shots before the Dodge drove away northwest on Caldwell, and that they eventually discovered a bullet hole in the rear driver side door, police said.
A GROUP of teenagers reported that they were robbed at about 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Portage Park, 4100 N. Long Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The group of five teens reported that two men approached them and one man pointed a silver handgun while the other man demanded their belongings and took $10 in cash from one of the teens before both men stole bicycles valued at $320 and $200 from two of the other teens and rode away northeast in the direction of the park’s fieldhouse, according to police. The men were described as white and white/Hispanic.

The armed man was described as white/Hispanic, age 19 to 21, and about 5-10 and 150 pounds, and the other man as white, age 19 to 21, and about 6-0 and 140 pounds.
A WOMAN reported that a man tried to rob her at gunpoint at about 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, in a parking lot behind the Cleaners Plus dry cleaning business, 4935 W. Foster Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 37-year-old woman reported that she was going through her trunk when an unknown man grabbed her from behind, put a handgun to her head and grabbed her cellphone, and that she grabbed her phone back and the man then struck her in the chest with the gun and she screamed and the man fled southeast on Elston, according to police.
The man was described as black, age 30 to 35, about 5-1 and 180 to 200 pounds with a large build, short twisted black hair, a clean-shaved face, and wearing a white T-shirt, black or gray jeans and black sneakers.
A MAN WAS arrested at the Harlem CTA Blue Line Station, 5550 N. Harlem Ave., for allegedly attacking a CTA employee and a passenger at about 4:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 68-year-old man reported that a man was arguing with random passengers on the platform and punched him in the head, grabbed his glasses and threw them on to the tracks, and that he notified a CTA worker who reported that he went to the platform and saw the man yelling at passengers and that as he was contacting police the man also punched him in the head, according to police. The man was arrested on scene, and the CTA employee was transported to AMITA Resurrection Medical Center for treatment, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Louis C. Hibble, age 62, of the 4600 block of West Berteau Avenue.
A MAN WAS arrested for allegedly attacking the owner and a patron of a business in the 4100 block of North Milwaukee Avenue at about 7:40 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The owner reported that a man who is involved in an ongoing dispute entered the business while allegedly intoxicated and grabbed her around the neck, and a man reported that he saw the altercation and tried to restrain the man when he became more enraged, punched him and ripped a mailbox off the building’s wall before he was able to hold the man for officers, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Michael Padilla, age 26, of the 4100 block of North Milwaukee Avenue.
A WOMAN reported that a man attacked her at about 2:45 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, on the sidewalk outside of the Jefferson Park Transit Center, 4917 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 50-year-old woman reported that a man approached her and punched her in the face, according to police.
A CITY WORKER reported that a man threatened him at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, in the 5400 block of North Linder Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 48-year-old man reported that he was driving his street sweeping route when a light blue Subaru vehicle pulled in front and blocked his path and an unknown man exited and asked the worker if he flipped off his wife, and that when he replied no the unknown man said, "If you flip off my wife again you’re not going to make it home from your next shift," before he drove away in the Subaru, according to police.
The man was described as white, about age 50, approximately 5-8 or 5-9, 180 to 200 pounds, with a shaved head, and wearing a white T-shirt and shorts.
AN ACCIDENTAL FIRE BURNED A RESIDENCE at about 7 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, in the 7200 block of West Balmoral Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A man reported that his family member lit a candle in his second-story bedroom and fell asleep as the flames spread across the room and to the rest of the second floor, and that the two men and a relative tried to extinguish the fire before they left the home and called in firefighters who put out the blaze, according to police. No injuries were reported, and the Chicago Fire Department’s Office of Fire Investigation concluded that the fire was accidental, police said.
A DOG WAS rescued from neglectful conditions at about 1:40 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, from a yard in the 5000 block of West Agatite Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An anonymous resident reported that a dog was left outside in a crate without food or water for at least 3 days and called officers who found the dog with various lacerations and a swollen paw while sitting in excrement in the outdoor crate and brought the dog to the police station, according to police.

A WOMAN reported that her purse was stolen at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, in the 4800 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 58-year-old woman reported that she was driving her 2014 Honda CRV when she got a flat tire and a man approached and offered to help change the tire, and that as she was retrieving the spare tire from the trunk the man took from the front seat her purse containing her driver’s license, social security card, various credit cards, her cellphone and $1,400 in cash before he ran away, according to police.
The man was described as black/Hispanic, age 45 to 50, and wearing a black jacket and black baseball cap.
TWO APARTMENT units in the same building the 4800 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue were burglarized between 10:45 a.m. and 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A man reported that he left his apartment at about 10:45 a.m. and when he returned home at about 9:05 p.m. he discovered that the rear kitchen window was open and that two watches valued at $300, two rings valued at $250 and a bracelet valued at $250 were missing, according to police.
A man who lived in a different unit reported that he left his apartment at about 7 p.m. and when he returned home at about 10 p.m. he discovered that a window was unlocked with the blinds now drawn and that a portable speaker system valued at $60 was missing, police said.
A WOMAN reported that the garage to her residence in the 4700 block of North Long Avenue was burglarized sometime before 5 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to the garage she discovered that a black bicycle valued at $519 and another bicycle valued at $406 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his house in the 3600 block of North Nordica Avenue was burglarized between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear door was broken and his alarm system was ripped out of the wall, and that he was unsure what proceeds, if any, were missing from his home, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her vehicle was stolen between 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, and 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, from the 7000 block of North Leoti Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to the street she discovered that her silver 2004 Honda Accord was missing, according to police.
SEVERAL burglaries to vehicles were reported in the area between 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, and 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Burglarized vehicles were reported in the 4500 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, the 5400 block of North Oriole Avenue, the 5900 and 6400 blocks of West Irving Park Road and the 8500 block of West Catherine Avenue, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his car was vandalized at about 2 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, while parked in the 7000 block of North Ozark Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he saw a man running away from his parked 2015 Toyota Camry and that he discovered that a rear window and the front windshield were shattered and a cinderblock in the rear seat, according to police.
The man was described as white, aged in his 20’s and wearing light-colored clothes.
A WOMAN REPORTED that her vehicle was stolen at about 12:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, from the parking lot of Walgreens, 4343 N. Central Ave., according to 16th(Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she left her keys inside her black 2018 Jeep Patriot sport utility vehicle as she was inside the store, and store surveillance showed two women stealing the Jeep that also contained house keys, cellphone, state ID card and an old window air conditioning unit, according to police.
The women were described as Hispanic and age 30 to 40, and one was further described as wearing a black jacket with a bright hooded sweatshirt underneath and the other woman as wearing a pink top.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was stolen between 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, and 7 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, from the 5800 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 32-year-old man reported that when he returned outside he discovered that his black 2007 Honda Civic with damage to the left side and containing various painting tools, folding knives and his black cellphone was missing, according to police.
