Local Crime from 16th District 10-22-14

A MAN AND A teenager were arrested on deceptive practice charges following an incident at about 11:40 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at Bank of America, 4825 N. Austin Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An employee reported that she saw a 75-year-old woman who is a regular customer driven to the bank by two suspicious-looking people, according to police. The employee reported that the woman said that the men had told her that they were her nephews and that she was trying to cash a check for $7,000, police said.
The employee reported that she called the woman’s nephew, who told her not to cash the check and to call the police, according to police. Responding officers stopped a vehicle that matched the description that was provided in the 6000 block of West Lawrence Avenue, and the occupants were arrested, police said.
The woman reported that the men made her believe that that they were her nephews and that they had previously tried to cash checks from her for tuckpointing work that was never done on her, according to police.
The suspects were identified by police as Anthony Miller, age 18, of the 4700 block of North Knox Avenue, and a 17-year-old male.

A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 8:40 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, in the 4100 block of North Long Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 18-year-old man reported that when he unlocked his garage door, two men attacked him from behind, punched him and knocked him to the ground, and took his cell phone, according to police.

A TEENAGER reported that a man exposed himself at about 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, in the 5900 block of West Ardmore Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 15-year-old teen reported that as she a man asked her for directions and unzipped his pants and exposed his penis, according to police.
The man was described as age 25, 5-8 and 170 pounds, and wearing a black sweater and gray zipper shorts.

A MAN WAS arrested on criminal trespass charges at about 9:10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, in the 3300 block of North New England Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A woman reported that she saw a man jump over a fence into her yard and that her husband detained the man for police, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Hector Nunez Jr., age 22, of the 6800 block of West Addison Street.

TWO MEN were arrested on assault charges following an incident at about 10:20 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, in the 3800 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 33-year-old man reported that as he was stopped at a red light a man approached his vehicle, asked his gang affiliation and threatened to attack him, according to police. The man reported that he got out of his car and told the man that he was calling authorities and that a second man pointed a gun at him, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as Michael E. Perez, age 23, of the 5500 block of West Grace Street, and Erasmo Valentin, age 23, of the 1600 block of North Talman Avenue.

A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, in the 5100 block of West Pensacola Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 20-year-old man reported that a man pushed him against a garage and demanded his money and that a second man got out of a car, pointed a gun at him, and took two cell phones and his wallet containing $15, according to police.

FOUR MEN reported that a man in a sport utility vehicle fired a gun at them, striking one of them in the foot at about 2:10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, in the 3200 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers on patrol heard the sound of shots being fired and came upon a man who reported that his friend has been shot, according to police. The 22-year-old man reported that as they were leaving a Belmont Avenue nightclub, a vehicle drove by them and six shots were fired at them, with one striking a 21-year-old man in the right foot, police said. The man was treated at Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, police said.

A MAN WAS arrested after he allegedly interfered with a police officer at about 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, in the 4800 block of North Lipps Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers were processing a homicide crime scene and a man entered an area that had been taped off by police, according to police. An officer escorted the man out of the crime scene, and the man fled and made a motion to a knife that he had in his belt, police said. Officers found a knife, a police scanner and a can of chemical spray in his possession, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Daniel T. Schmidt, age 24, of the 4100 block of North McVicker Avenue

AN EMPLOYEE reported that the Eden Liquor-Food store, 4805 W. Foster Ave., was burglarized between 1:20 a.m. and 10:05 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that when he arrived at the business he discovered that the rear door had been forced open and that numerous bottles of liquor and beer, a television set and a $100 in cash were missing, according to police. The man reported that an automated teller machine outside the business had been damaged but that money did not appear to be missing, police said.

A MAN REPORTED at a home in the 6700 block of North Edgebrook Terrance was burglarized at about noon Tuesday, Oct. 14, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that the home is being rehabbed and that he discovered that four central air conditioning units, two refrigerators, two dish washers, three stoves and fixtures were missing, and that granite counter tops were damaged, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 4000 block of North McVicker Avenue was burglarized between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that two necklaces valued at $2,800, a tablet valued at $200, two metal boxes valued at $125 and bank checks were missing, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that plumbing and other tools were stolen from his van between 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, and 9 a.m. the following day, while it was parked in the 5400 block of North Elston Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to the van he discovered that the driver’s-side door lock was broken and that tools all valued at $13,650 were missing, according to police,

A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 6300 block of West Holbrook Street was burglarized between 8 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, and 6 p.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the front door had been forced open and that a laptop computer, a tablet, three watches, seven pairs of gym shoes, $250 in cash and a BB gun were missing, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 6200 block of North Newark Avenue was burglarized between 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, and 3:15 a.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that a side window was open and that a lockbox containing $3,500 in cash and a laptop computer were missing, according to police.

A WOMAN reported that her home in the 5800 block of West Henderson Street was burglarized between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she was gardening and discovered that a side gate was open and that when she entered her home she discovered that bank checks, three watches valued at $900, 14 rings valued at $3,000, three diamond rings valued at $3,000 and $1,500 in cash were missing, according to police.
