Local Crime from 16th District 10-3-18
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed and that his red Chevrolet Cruze was stolen at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, in the 5400 block of West Sunnyside Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that one of the assailants pointed a revolver at him and drove away with his vehicle, according to police. Some of the man’s belongings, which had been dropped to the ground, were also reported stolen, according to police.
Another assailant fled in a black sport utility vehicle, which has a cracked passenger side window, police said.
A CONSTRUCTION worker reported that a man robbed him at gunpoint at about 2:55 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, in the 4100 block of North Pittsburgh Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 35-year-old man reported that while he was working in the front yard of a home, a man exited a navy blue sport utility vehicle and picked up a concrete saw valued at $1,300 and started to walk back toward his vehicle with it, according to police. The man reported that when he told the man to stop, the man pointed a black semi-automatic handgun at him and told him to "stay back" before he entered the vehicle with the saw and drove away eastbound, police said.
The man was described as black, age 29 to 32, between 5-7 and 5-9 and between 180 and 200 pounds with black braided hair.
A MAN REPORTED that two men robbed him at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, in the 5500 block of West Byron Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 33-year-old man reported that he went to meet an acquaintance and that when he arrived the man pointed a switchblade knife at him and demanded money, and that he and another man punched him several times and took $23 in cash, according to police.
The man was described as age 18, 5-10 and 130 pounds, with a faded strawberry blonde hairstyle. The other man was described as age 18, 5-7 and 160 pounds, with short brown hair.
A COUPLE reported that a man attacked them at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, in the parking lot of Habetler Bowl, 5250 N. Northwest Hwy., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 25-year old man reported that the ex-husband of his wife approached them in the parking lot and after he argued with the man, the man hit him in his left leg with a baseball bat and then slapped and pushed his wife to the ground before he fled, according to police.
The man was described as white, age 26, about 5-8 and 170 pounds, with short black hair, brown eyes and tattoos on his back and right shoulder.
A MAN WAS charged with theft following his arrest at about 4:40 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, in the 4500 block of North McVicker Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responded to a call of men who were removing tires from a car on the street and they saw a man removing the rear driver’s side tire from a vehicle while two other individuals were standing behind the vehicle, and that when they exited their vehicle to approach them, they ran away, according to police.
The officers apprehended a man in a nearby gangway and arrested him after they discovered two passenger side tires were missing from a vehicle with bricks and wood placed underneath the vehicle, police said. Officers located the tires at the intersection of North McVicker and West Sunnyside Avenues and discovered a large number of lug nuts and hand tools inside the trunk of the man’s vehicle and a wrench and socket in his pocket, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Alejandro Magdaleno, age 29, of the 2000 block of North La Crosse Avenue.
A MAN REPORTED that two men stole items from the garage of his residence in the 3200 block of North Overhill Avenue at about 2:05 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he forgot to close the overhead door to his garage and that when he returned he discovered that a Craftsmen tool chest valued at $3,000, various hand tools valued at $1,000 and a Lenovo laptop computer valued at $1,500 were missing, according to police.
The man reported that he saw on his home security camera two men who exited a black Chevrolet Tahoe sport utility vehicle, entered his garage as they attempted to hide their faces, sprayed the camera with an unknown substance before they unplugged its power cord, police said.
The men were described as age 40 to 50, between 5-9 and 5-10, between 170 and 200 pounds, and one of the men was wearing a backwards baseball hat, t-shirt and jeans, and the other man was wearing a white shirt, black pants and black shoes.
A MAN REPORTED that three men broke into his home in the 5300 block of North Moody Avenue at about 2:25 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that his camera system recorded video footage of a man who forced open the rear window on his rear door, cut the window screen, unlocked the door and entered his residence along with two other men, and that the men searched through his residence and took jewelry valued at $6,000, a laptop computer valued at $700, a camera valued at $200, several sets of keys and a garage door opener, then exited through the rear door, entered a 2002 navy blue Toyota Highlander sport utility vehicle that was parked in the alley behind his garage and drove away, according to police.
The men were described as black and age 17 to 25.
A COUPLE reported that their apartment in the 5800 block of West Montrose Avenue was burglarized between 6 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The couple reported that when they returned home they discovered that a kitchen window had been forced open and that jewelry valued at $6,800, credit cards and an identification card were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her vehicle was burglarized between 8 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, and midnight Friday, Sept. 29, while it was parked in the 4800 block of North Lipps Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to her vehicle, she discovered the rear windshield had been broken and that her purse valued at $300 was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her residence in the 5500 block of West Henderson Street was burglarized between 1 p.m. and 9:25 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the rear kitchen window had been broken and that a Lenovo laptop computer valued at $200 and a Sony Xbox video game console valued at $200 were missing, according to police.
SEVERAL vehicle thefts were reported between Sept. 22 and Sept. 27, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Stolen vehicles were reported in the 6500 block of North Natoma Avenue, the 5500 block of North Mango Avenue, the 3300 block of North Neenah Avenue, the 3500 block of North Lockwood Avenue and the 6000 block of North Newburg Avenue, according to police.
SEVERAL bicycle thefts were reported between Sept. 22 and Sept. 27, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Incidents of stolen vehicles were reported in the 4600 block of North Leamington Avenue, the 6700 block of North Olmsted Avenue, the 4600 block of North Austin Avenue, the 6500 block of North Natoma Avenue, the 5500 block of North Mango Avenue, the 3300 block of North Neenah Avenue, and at the Harlem CTA Blue Line Station, 5550 N. Harlem Ave., the Jefferson Park CTA Transit Center, 4917 N. Milwaukee Ave. and two incidents were reported at the Cumberland CTA Blue Line station, 5800 N. Cumberland Ave., according to police.
