Local Crime from 16th District 10-31-18

THREE MEN were arrested on theft charges following an accident and a foot chase at about 12:25 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, in the 5200 block of North Neenah Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers saw a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign near the intersection of Nagle and Balmoral avenues and when they followed the car ,the vehicle sped off on West Catalpa Avenue, turned south on North Natchez Avenue and failed to stop at a stop sign as it turned west onto Balmoral, according to police. The car then passed a vehicle illegally on its left side and failed to stop at a stop sign at Higgins before crashing into a car on Higgins and then into a parked car on Neenah, according to police.
The officers saw two men exit the vehicle who ran away east through two yards in the 5500 block of North Neenah Avenue, and that the driver allegedly had a handgun in his hand, police said. The officers chased the men on foot with assisting units and detained the passenger in the 6400 block of West Higgins Avenue and the driver in the 6700 block of West Foster Avenue, according to police. Two witnesses reported that two other men exited the vehicle following the accident and fled westbound, and officers detained one of the men who matched a description in the 4900 block of West Oak Park Avenue before they all were arrested, according to police.
The officers discovered a bag containing a white substance suspected of being heroin, handcuffs and a tire iron in the car, police said. Other items that may have been stolen were found in the vehicle, according to police.
The suspects were identified by police as Dallvin T. Martin, age 23, of the 900 block of North Massasoit Avenue, Joseph Young, age 27, of the 4900 block of West Iowa Street and Tyrel D. Clark, age 23, of the 3800 block of West Monroe Street. Martin was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, no driver’s license, no insurance, three counts of failure to stop at a stop sign, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving. Young was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, police said.

A MAN REPORTED that a man threatened him with a handgun after he allegedly burglarized a neighbor’s vehicle that was parked in the 5000 block of West Newport Avenue at about 2:45 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he saw a man breaking into his neighbor’s van and when he confronted him, the man pointed a handgun at him and then rode away on a bicycle with items he had taken from the van, according to police.
The neighbor reported that he discovered that Milwaukee brand power tools valued at $2,100 were missing from his vehicle and that his brother’s vehicle had also been broken into, but he was unsure if any items were missing, police said.
Three windows at Community First Hospital, 5645 W. Addison St., were struck by bullets at about 1:05 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responded to a call of shots fired at the intersection of West Addison Street and North Central avenues and were provided with video footage from the J.J. Peppers store, 3555 N. Central Ave., that recorded occupants in a dark colored sport utility vehicle, possibly a Chevrolet Tahoe, and a white Mitsubishi 4-door automobile in the store parking lot who appeared to be arguing with each other, according to police. The video showed that after the dark-colored vehicle drove out of the parking lot south on Central, a man exited the white vehicle and fired several gunshots toward the dark-colored vehicle, according to police.
The officers reported that three of the gunshots went through three windows of the hospital and entered the facility, but that no one was injured, police said.

A MAN REPORTED that a man robbed him at about 11 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, in the 3500 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 46-year-old man reported that he was loading a bag of computer parts valued at $200 into a storage garage when a man approached him, punched him in the face, took the bag and fled north, according to police.
The man was treated at Community First Hospital for minor injuries, police said.

A MAN REPORTED that he was stabbed at about 3 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at the Cumberland CTA Blue Line station, 5800 N. Cumberland Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 54-year-old man reported that after he exited a train, a man approached him and that while they were arguing with each other, the man punched him in the chest, according to police. The man reported that after he felt "fluid" underneath his shirt, he discovered the man had a knife in each of his hands and that he had been stabbed in his upper left chest before the man fled and he rode another train to Rush Hospital for treatment, police said.
The man was transported to Stroger Hospital in stable condition, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 10:10 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, in the 5900 block of West Warwick Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 44-year-old man reported that as he was walking on the sidewalk, two men approached him from an alley, pointed guns at him, said gang slogans and forced him to lie face first down on the ground and took his cell phone, headphones and wallet containing credit cards, his Social Security card and $2 in cash from him before they entered a maroon sport utility vehicle and drove away east in the alley, according to police.

A COUPLE reported that their apartment in the 5900 block of West Addison Street was burglarized between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The couple reported that when they returned, they discovered jewelry, $300 cash and paper work were missing, according to police.

A REAL ESTATE agent reported that a home in the 5300 block of West Patterson Avenue was burglarized between 7:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, and 11:15 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The agent reported that when she arrived at the residence she discovered the lock on the key box had been removed and that a Sharp television set valued at $1,000, an LG stove valued at $800, an LG refrigerator valued at $800, an LG washing machine valued at $800, an LG dryer valued at $800, an LG dishwasher valued at $800, two tables and 10 chairs were missing, according to police.

BURGLARIES from vehicles were reported between Oct. 24 and 27, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Burglaries were reported in the 6600 block of North Oshkosh Avenue, the 7200 block of West Addison Street, the 3600 block of North Nottingham Avenue, according to police.
