Local Crime from 16th District 10-9-19
A MAN REPORTED that the Lucky’s Wireless store, 4466 N. Milwaukee Ave., was vandalized at about 12:50 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he saw a man shoot paintballs at the windows and break several windows with a crowbar before driving away in a white Toyota vehicle, according to police.
The man was described as white, age 35 to 40, and about 5-6 and 140 pounds.
Over the summer, several residents have reported that there are eight slot-style machines at the business, which sells cell phones and accessories.
A MAN WAS shot in at about 8:45 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, in the 5100 block of West Henderson Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Witnesses reported that they heard an argument and a single gunshot from a house and a woman at the home reported that the shooting was "accidental" and occurred during a card game and that a 24-year-old man was driven to Community First Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his lower right leg, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, in the 4800 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 52-year-old man reported that he was walking east on Belmont when two men approached from behind and punched him in the face and knocked him to the ground and took his Samsung cellphone and wallet containing a driver’s license and $30 in cash before they ran away, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that a man threatened him after a car accident at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, in the 5000 block of North Elston Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 60-year-old man reported that he was driving when he was rear-ended by a red 2005 Hyundai hatchback, and that the male rear passenger of the Hyundai yelled out the window "I’m going to mess you up" before the Hyundai drove away south, according to police.
The man was described as white, age 20 to 29, about 5-8 and 150 pounds, with short brown hair.
AN EMPLOYEE of Saint Robert Bellarmine Church, 4646 N. Austin Ave., reported that a man was trespassing at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, and later threatened the church, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that he had to kick a man out of the church who had repeatedly been told not to return due to past conflicts and that later in the day the man called the church and said that he would return and "start to explode on everyone," according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his wallet was stolen at about 1 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, while he rode a train near the Harlem CTA Blue Line stop, 5550 N. Harlem Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 38-year-old man reported that he was standing near the train’s rear exit door when a person took his gray and black wallet containing a debit card, a travel credit card and an insurance card, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his wallet was stolen on a train sometime between boarding at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at the CTA Jefferson Park Blue Line station, 4917 N. Milwaukee Ave., and 5 a.m. that morning at the CTA Rosemont Blue Line station, 5801 N. River Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 54-year-old man reported that he boarded the train and fell asleep, and that when he awoke several hours later at the Rosemont stop he discovered that his wallet was stolen and that one of his credit cards had racked up about $1,500 in charges at multiple locations, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE of the EZ Pawn Shop, 5454 W. Belmont Ave., reported that a man stole store property and tried to cheat him at about 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he noticed multiple PlayStation 4 video game consoles missing from the shelves and that a man then tried to sell them back as his own property, and that when he confronted the man he handed back one Play Station console but zipped his backpack containing another PlayStation console valued at about $140 and ran away east on Belmont, dropping his cellphone during the escape process, according to police.
The man was described as white/Hispanic, age 18 to 25, about 5-9 and 140 pounds, with facial piercings, and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black jeans and a red backpack.
THE CONVENIENT Etc. store, 3723 N. Harlem Ave., was burglarized at about 2:40 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers discovered that the front glass door was shattered and an employee showed surveillance camera footage that captured two people, one of whom shattered the glass front door with an unknown object before the other person entered the store, walked to the register counter and took about $13,000 worth of lottery tickets, according to police.
The men were both described as wearing dark colored pants and hooded sweatshirts obscuring their faces, with one sweatshirt further described as light colored and the other as dark colored.
AN EMPLOYEE of Martin’s supermarket, 5155 W. Addison St., reported that the store was burglarized at about 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that surveillance camera footage captured a man exiting a vehicle before he threw an object to shatter the glass front door, and that the man ran away east and a woman entered the store and took 173 lottery tickets valued at $3,710 from the display case before she fled, according to police.
The man was described as wearing a red jacket, and the woman as wearing all black clothing including gloves and a hooded sweatshirt obscuring her face.
A COUPLE reported that their house in the 6100 block of West Waveland Avenue was burglarized before 5:45 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The couple reported that when the man returned home he discovered that the basement doorframe was broken and that four designer-brand watches, a pair of earrings, a necklace and a bracelet were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED a burglary attempt to his house in the 3300 block of North Pittsburgh Avenue at about 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he was sleeping when he awoke to the sound of the storm window shattering and the rear door getting kicked in, and that his dog rushed to the kitchen and he then heard an unknown person fleeing the area in a vehicle with a loud muffler, according to police.
SEVERAL vehicles were burglarized between 10 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, and 12:40 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Burglarized vehicles were reported in the 3400 block of North Nordica Avenue, the 4800 block of North Long Avenue, the 5900 block of North Manton Avenue, the 6000 and 6100 blocks of West Irving Park Road, and the 7200 block of West Catalpa Avenue, according to police.
SEVERAL vehicles were reported stolen between 8:50 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, and 7:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 4, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Vehicles were reported stolen from the 3300 block of North Lamon Avenue, the 5100 block of West Winona Street, the 5200 block of West Berenice Avenue, and the 5200 and 5900 blocks of West Cornelia Avenue, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that wheels were stolen between 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, and 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, in the 4500 block of North Lavergne Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned outside she discovered that all four tires and rims were missing from her rental 2018 Nissan Altima, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was vandalized between 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, and 10:20 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, in the 8500 block of West Catherine Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned outside he discovered that his 2016 Jeep Liberty sport utility vehicle had a slashed rear tire and a shattered rear window, according to police.
