Local Crime from 16th District 11-13-19
A MAN REPORTED that a group of men broke into his apartment in the 5500 block of W Leland Ave and robbed him at gunpoint at about 11:50 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he was inside when he heard a combination of knocking at his rear door, walkie-talkie sounds and a group of males screaming "police," and that three men wearing masks with black handguns kicked the door in, held him in a headlock at gunpoint and threatened to kill him, and took $1,000 in cash from a dresser drawer before they threw him to the floor and left through the rear door, according to police.
The men were all described as white/Hispanic and as wearing red, white and blue clown masks, gloves and all-black clothing.
A MAN REPORTED that he was stabbed in an apparent road rage-related incident at about 6:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, in the 7300 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 38-year-old man reported that he was driving west through the intersection of Irving Park and West Forest Preserve Drive when he got into an argument with the driver of a black sport utility vehicle and they exited their vehicles, and that the male driver of the SUV cut him in the face with a knife and he was transported to AMITA Health Resurrection Medical Center, according to police.
The assailant was described as white/Hispanic, age 35 to 40.
A MAN REPORTED that a man attacked him in an apparent road rage-related incident at about 3:40 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, in the 5800 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 65-year-old man reported that he was driving and turning from Irving Park Road onto North Marmora Avenue when he slammed on the brakes and almost hit a man and his wife and son who were crossing the intersection, and that the man became irate, opened his vehicle’s door and struck him in the head, according to police. The assailant reported that the man almost struck him and his family and yelled a racial slur at them before he hit the man, and he was not immediately arrested, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that a man attacked him at about 11:20 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, in the 4300 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 39-year-old man reported that he was arguing with a man who then tried to punch him, and that he was able to avoid the punch and the man fled, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE of Brandy’s Gyros, 6262 N. Harlem Ave., reported that a co-worker attacked him at about 8:15 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that another employee called him to walk outside and that they had an argument behind the restaurant before the man punched and kicked him to the ground, knocking him unconscious, and restaurant surveillance camera footage showed that the co-worker continued kicking him about the face and body while he was passed out, and he was later transported to Swedish Covenant Hospital in serious condition, according to police.
The man was described as white/Hispanic, about age 32, 5-5 to 5-7, 155 to 180 pounds, with brown eyes and medium-length black hair.
A TEENAGER was arrested for allegedly stealing packages from a home in the 4400 block of North Austin Avenue at about 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers saw a male talking with another male in an alley before he allegedly ran up the steps of a house, grabbed two packages that were later discovered to contain about $106 worth of groceries and started running away south on Austin, and officers then detained and arrested the male, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as a 17-year-old male.
In related news, several other thefts of packages were reported in the area between 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, and 5:10 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, police said. Packages were reported stolen from the 3200 block of North Page Avenue, the 3400 block of North Pacific Avenue and the 4000 block of North Pittsburgh Avenue, according to police.
NUMEROUS thefts from vehicles were reported between 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, and 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Burglaries and thefts from vehicles were reported in the 5200 block of North Larned Avenue, the 5600 block of West Windsor Avenue, the 5800 block of West Eastwood Avenue, the 5800 block of North Nickerson Avenue, the 6000 block of West Irving Park Road and the 7700 block of West Birchwood Avenue, according to police.
A WORKER reported that a construction site in the 5000 block of North Elston Avenue was burglarized between 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, and 7 a.m. Monday, Nov 4, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The worker reported that when he returned to the site he discovered that a side entrance door was opened and damaged, and that $9,000 worth of construction tools was missing from inside the building, according to police.
A COUPLE reported that their house in the 5200 block of North Oriole Avenue was burglarized between 5 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The couple reported that when they returned home they discovered that the backyard gate and rear garage door were open and that about $1,000 in cash and various gift cards and old credit cards were missing from a container, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her house in the 6200 block of West Giddings Street was burglarized between 2:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the rear door was kicked and that an empty safe valued at about $220 and a collection of silverware were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her family’s house in the 4000 block of North Major Avenue was burglarized between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that her husband had left the rear house door unlocked through the day and that when he returned upstairs he discovered that a 19-inch gaming laptop computer valued at $1,500, a computer mouse, keyboard, cables and bag valued at $455 total, a computer chair valued at $150, a laser printer valued at $480, an air compressor tool valued at $420, a nail gun valued at $230, a screw-gun valued at $180 and a drill valued at $140 were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that the garage to her home in the 4100 block of North Marmora Avenue was burglarized between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the overhead garage door was open, and two bicycles were missing, according to police.
