Local Crime from 16th District 11-8-17

FIVE TEENAGERS reported that a man and a woman robbed them at gunpoint at about 9:35 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at Green Park, 6500 N. Algonquin Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The five Edgbrook male teenagers, age 13 to 16, reported that a woman and a man approached them in the park and that the woman said, "This is a hold up, get on the ground," while the man pointed a silver handgun at them as they both dropped down to the ground, according to police. One of the teens reported that when he looked up at the man and woman, the man kicked him in the face and told him to keep looking at the ground while they took two bicycles, five cell phones, four wallets and $120 in, police said.
The teens reported that the woman said, "Sorry, our kids have to eat," before she and the man entered a white sport utility vehicle and drove away, according to police.
The man and the woman were described as in their 30s and Hispanic.

A MAN WAS arrested after he allegedly attempted to steal a man’s vehicle at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, in the 7300 block of West Talcott Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 24-year-old man reported that he exited his vehicle to open the gate to his driveway and a man entered his car while his 19-year-old girlfriend was still in the front passenger seat, and that after he told the man that he has the keys the man exited the car and fled, according to police. The man reported that he informed his 49-year-old uncle about the incident and that his uncle ran outside to the alley, confronted the man and tripped him to the ground, and that an off-duty police officer witnessed the incident and assisted the man’s uncle until the man was arrested, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Jamal McKelvin, age 21, of the 500 block of South 9th Street, Maywood.

A WOMAN reported that she was the victim of a scam between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, at her home in the 6800 block of North Minnetonka Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 80-year-old woman reported that two men told her that they had damaged her tree and that she allowed one of the men to enter her residence while she searched for a pen to exchange her information with the men, according to police. The woman reported that when she returned with a pen the two men entered a white pickup truck and drove away, and she later discovered that a gold and white gold wedding band containing seven diamonds valued at $5,000, a ring that contains two silver bands and one gold band valued at $500 and a gold ring with a dove and six diamonds on each side valued at $650 were missing, police said.

A MAN WAS stabbed at about 11:20 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, inside his apartment in the 5900 block of North Merrimac Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 35-year-old man reported that during an argument with his girlfriend, the woman stabbed him multiple times with a knife in his lower left rib cage, his lower left abdomen and lower right buttocks and then fled, according to police.
The man was transported to Lutheran General Hospital and was treated for minor stab wounds, according to police.

TWO WITNESSES reported that two men attempted to lure five children into their vehicle at about 5:25 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, in the 7100 block of North Octavia Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The witnesses reported that as they were walking through Brooks Park, 7100 N. Harlem Ave., they heard five 11-year-old female children pleading with the driver of a black 2006 Nissan Altima automobile to leave them alone and that when one of the witnesses started to call the police and approached the man, he drove away with another man, according to police.
The children reported that the man drove next to them as they were approaching the park and asked them if they wanted candy and that when one of them said no, he became angry and said, "No, come here," and then continued to drive slowly next to them and demanded that they come to his vehicle, police said.

A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 3500 block of North Rutherford Avenue was burglarized between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that a side door had been broken and that jewelry and $800 in cash were missing, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his residence in the 4300 block of North Mulligan Avenue was burglarized between 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, and 7 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his garage he discovered that three pieces of heating and cooling coil valued at $600 were missing, according to police

SEVERAL vehicle thefts were reported on the between Oct. 30 and Nov.5, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Stolen vehicles were reported in the 4000 block of North Meade Avenue, the 4100 block of North Mobile Avenue, the 4200 block of North Mason Avenue, the 6000 block of West Addison Street, the 4500 block of North Austin Avenue, the 5200 block of West Roscoe Street, the 4500 block of North Mulligan Avenue, the 5000 block of West Lawrence Avenue and the 5000 block of West Sunnyside Avenue, according to police.
