Local Crime from 16th District 12-5-18
A WOMAN REPORTED that shots were fired into her home in the 5000 block of West Byron Street at about 4 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 37-year-old woman reported that she and her husband heard a man throw a brick through their window and fire numerous shots at their house, leaving three bullet holes in the front door, five bullet holes in the front siding, and three bullet holes and two bullet casings in the drywall within the home, and officers recovered 12 spent bullet casings from the street, according to police.
SHOTS were fired at about 5:40 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, in the 4700 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A man reported that he was driving north on Central when he drove past a dark-colored sport utility vehicle and heard three gunshots coming from the vicinity of the SUV, which he saw fleeing south on Central, according to police.
SHOTS were fired at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov 22, in the 4900 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 22-year-old man reported that he was outside near his car when an unknown man fired gunshots toward his direction, according to police.
The man was described as white/Hispanic, approximately 5-4, and wearing blue jeans and a black North Face jacket.
A WOMAN reported that she was carjacked at about 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, in the 3500 block of North Long Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 54-year-old woman reported that she had just parked her silver 2017 Toyota Camry when a man approached her passenger-side window and told her to exit and another man said "give me the keys, I don’t want to shoot you," and that they pushed her to the ground, took the keys and drove the Toyota away north on Long, according to police. The woman reported that the men implied a gun but that she never saw an actual weapon, police said.
The men were both described as black, age 20 to 25, approximately 6-0, and wearing black hooded sweatshirts.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 4 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, in the 3500 block of North Harlem Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 24-year-old man reported that a man approached, struck him in face and took his backpack containing a Samsung cellphone valued at $1,000, two portable batteries valued at $200, a Bluetooth speaker valued at $200, 13 various cords and chargers valued at $80, and a wallet containing ID and bank cards, according to police.
The man was described as black, about age 45, and wearing a black skullcap, a black jacket and black pants.
THE OWNER of Joseph’s Jewelers, 6500 W. Irving Park Road, reported that the business was burglarized at about 4 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that the alarm at the business was set off, and that when he returned to the business he discovered that about $100,000 worth of chains, rings, watches and pendants were missing, according to police. Officers discovered that the rear door of an adjacent vacant shop was forced open, and that a hole was broken into a wall connecting the two stores, police said.
TWO STOREFRONTS in the 6000 block of West Irving Park Road were broken into between midnight Thursday, Nov. 29, and 2:05 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The owner of Goldstone Jewelry, 6006 W. Irving Park Road, reported that the store burglar alarm was activated at about 2 a.m. and when she arrived, she discovered two holes in a wall located inside the business and that a fire extinguisher and an alarm sensor had fallen off the wall, according to police.
The owner reported that there were no items missing from the store and she is working with a company to obtain footage recorded from a camera inside the store, and that the business had also been broken into and burglarized under the store’s previous owner during an incident in April where $24,500 in jewelry and $1,300 had been removed from a safe, police said.
Officers discovered that the rear door of an adjacent storefront at 6004 W. Irving Park Road had been broken in and that various tools and saws had allegedly been used inside the unit in an attempt to cut through a wall that separates the storefronts, according to police. The building’s property manager reported that the adjacent storefront has been rented out for the past 7 months to DJ Master Entertainment, police said.
A man from DJ Master Entertainment reported upon his arrival that he discovered that an office door had been damaged and several items were in disarray, and that $14,400 in cash from the office, $1,020 in cash from a cash register, an Apple laptop computer valued at $2,800 and a turntable and a mixer valued at $6,000 were missing, police said.
THE OWNER of Sicilia Bakery, 5939 W. Lawrence Ave., reported that the business was burglarized between noon Thursday, Nov. 22, and 6 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to the business he discovered that the alley access door for an adjacent connected storage building was pried open, and that the bakery office door frame was damaged with a crowbar left nearby, according to police. The man reported that an ATM, cash registers and cash, the computers and hard drives to the security camera system, a generator and an air compressor valued at about $11,000 total were missing from the bakery office, and that a dark grey 2015 Dodge Caravan belonging to the business was also missing from the gated parking lot, police said.
NUMEROUS vehicle thefts were reported between Nov. 19 and Dec. 2, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Vehicles were reported stolen in the 5900 block of North Northwest Highway, the 5400 block of West Cornelia Avenue, the 3700 block of North New England Avenue, the 3700 block of North Panama Avenue, the 4900 block of North Harlem Avenue, the 5200 block of North Marmora Avenue, the 5500 block of North Linder Avenue and the 5100 block of West School Street, according to police.
Vehicular thefts were also reported in the 5700 block of West Waveland Avenue, the 5300 block of West Irving Park Road, the 5200 block of West Byron Street, a commercial parking lot in the 5500 block of North Milwaukee Avenue and a Citgo Gas station at 5726 N. Nagle Ave., police said.
Car thefts were also reported in the 3800 block of North Pontiac Avenue, the 7300 block of North Osceola Avenue, the 5000 block of West Foster Avenue, the 7700 block of West Glenlake Avenue and the 8100 block of West Forest Preserve Avenue, and two incidents were reported in the 5100 block of North Mango Avenue, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that a man set fire to his garbage can and damaged the garage of his residence in the 3900 block of North Oriole Avenue at about 1:45 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported at about 12:20 p.m. that he discovered that his garbage can was melted and the siding on his garage had been damaged, and that a neighbor recorded video footage at about 1:45 a.m. that shows a man stop at his garbage can, set fire with a lighter to the corner of a cardboard box containing an artificial Christmas tree inside the garbage can, place something inside the box and then walk away southbound less than a minute before the box exploded into a larger fire, according to police.
The man reported that the video also shows a white Dodge Caravan driving in the alley at about 2:05 a.m. and firefighters extinguished the fire at about 2:10 a.m., police said.
The man was described as wearing a black hooded jacket, black pants with a backpack, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that a man stole a package from the front porch of her residence in the 5900 block of North Indian Road between noon and 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she heard someone open her front storm door and then saw a man walking away with a package that had been delivered to her containing clothing valued at $30, according to police
The man was described as white, age 23 to 25 and wearing jeans.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 5600 block of North Major Avenue was burglarized between 2 p.m. and 8:05 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home, she discovered that the rear door had been forced open and that $500 in cash was missing, according to police.
Oketo
A woman reported that the garage of her residence in the 3700 block of North Oketo Avenue was burglarized between 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, and 5:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to her garage she discovered that a rolling toolbox, various tools and an electric snow blower were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her vehicle was burglarized between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in the 3900 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to her vehicle she discovered that the rear driver’s side passenger window had been broken and a purse valued at $200 containing a .22-caliber revolver valued at $300 was missing, according to police.
