Local Crime from 16th District 2-12-20
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed and that his vehicle was stolen at about 10:10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, in the 6400 block of North Oak Park Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 33-year-old man reported that as he was walking to his vehicle a man pointed a gun at him and demanded car keys and money, according to police. The man reported that he gave the man his keys and told him he didn’t have any cash, and the man got in his 2017 Chrysler and drove southbound on North Oak Park Avenue and then eastbound on West Devon Avenue, police said.
The man was described as black, age 25 to 35, 6-0 to 6-3, and 200 to 230 pounds.
AN EMPLOYEE of the 7-Eleven store, 5600 W. Irving Park Road, reported that the store was robbed at about 6:40 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that two men entered the store and brought items to the register when a third man entered, pointed a gun at the employee and demanded cash from the register, according to police. The employee reported that all three men jumped across the counter to take cash and the man with the gun struck her in the back of the head with the gun handle, causing a laceration, before the men fled northbound on North Central Avenue with between $150 and $200 in cash, police said.
The men were described as black, age 25 to 30, 5-7 and 6-2, and weighing between 140 and 175 pounds.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, in the 6300 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he was smoking a cigarette in the alley when a man approached him and pointed a gun at him and demanded his wallet, according to police. The man reported that the man took his cellphone valued at $500 and wallet containing various IDs before fleeing westbound in the alley, according to police.
The man was described as white, age 20 to 29, 6-0, with a Polish accent and wearing a black hat and black coat.
TWO PEOPLE were arrested at about 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, in the 4100 block of North Monitor Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A caller reported that a suspicious vehicle with windows open had smoke coming from the vehicle and multiple people had walked up to the vehicle since it had been parked that looked like drug-dealing, according to police.
Officers smelled an odor of cannabis and asked the men if they had anything illegal in the vehicle and a passenger told police he had "some weed in his backpack," at which point officers discovered about 45 grams of a substance suspected of being marijuana, according to police. Officers reported that while the passenger was showing them the contents one of them noticed the handle of a handgun and placed the passenger into custody, police said. The driver of the car was also arrested on drug misdemeanor charges, according to police.
The suspects were identified by police as Joseph Tammo Hall, age 18, of the 6200 block of North Richmond Street and as a 17-year-old male.
TWO PEOPLE were arrested following an incident at about 5:50 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, in the 2500 block of West Pensacola Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers conducting a catalytic converter theft mission saw a suspicious vehicle in the 5300 block of West Pensacola Avenue, according to police. Due to recent theft patterns officers believed they were observing a crime in progress and attempted to close the distance between themselves and the vehicle to check the license plate when the vehicle drove away, police said.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle and the vehicle accelerated in an attempt to evade police, according to police. Officers reported the vehicle turned to a dead end street in the 2500 block of West Pensacola Avenue and the driver of the vehicle pulled over, and while they were putting a passenger into custody, the driver of the vehicle fled on foot and jumped into the Chicago River in an attempt to evade police, police said. One of the officers reported that he was able to persuade the driver to return and get out of the river and she was also placed into custody, according to police. Officers reported that a search of the suspects discovered several pieces of mail and identification with different names on them, as well as a mini-crowbar and a wrench with a key at the end, which are commonly used car burglary tools, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as Andrew Deadio, age 39, of the 4200 block of North Sacramento Avenue and as Casey Martin, age 33, of the 1000 block of North Fairfield Avenue.
A MAN REPORTED that a man set a car on fire at 2:10 a.m. and his rear fence at 4:20 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, in the 5100 block of West Patterson Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that a vehicle was on fire at about 2:10 a.m. and a witness reported that a man walked out of the alley with a Molotov cocktail and threw it at a parked vehicle, police said. The man reported that while the CPD bomb and arson squad unit was investigating the vehicle fire in front of the home, the same man returned to the alley behind his home and threw another Molotov cocktail, igniting his wooden rear fence, according to police.
The man was described as white/Hispanic, age 25, 5-3 to 5-5 and 150 pounds.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5300 block of North Meade Avenue was burglarized between 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, and 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear door of his home had been forced open and several watches were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that the garage of her home in the 3600 block of North Laramie Avenue was burglarized between 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, and 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to the garage she discovered that the side door had been forced open and a heater valued at $40 was missing, according to police.
SEVERAL motor vehicle thefts were reported between 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, and noon Wednesday, Feb. 5, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 5400 block of North Long Avenue, in the 5800 block of North West Circle Avenue and in the 6200 block of West Peterson Avenue, according to police.
