Local Crime from 16th District 3-18-15

A TEENAGER WAS fatally shot in a gang-related incident at about 12:50 p.m. Sunday, March 15, in the 5800 block of West Patterson Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Two teenagers reported that as they were walking with the victim, two men in a silver Toyota Avalon approached them and asked their gang affiliation, and that the passenger got out of the vehicle began to shoot at them with a semi-automatic handgun, according to police. The teens reported that they began to run away while the man continued shooting, and one of the teens was struck in the head, police said.
A witness reported that the gunman then entered the car and the two men fled westbound, police said.
The wounded teen was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:39 p.m., according to police. All three teens reportedly are gang members, police said.
The victim was identified by police as Giovanni Matos, age 16, of the 5500 block of West Henderson Street.

AN EMPLOYEE reported that Byline Bank, 3555 N. Harlem Ave., was robbed at about 4:10 p.m. Thursday, March 12, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that a man approached the counter and handed him a deposit slip that read, "This is a bank robbery," and that he gave the man $2,606 in cash from his drawer, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that he was attacked and robbed at about 10:25 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, in the 3500 block of North Lockwood Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 55-year-old man reported that a man approached him and asked for directions, then punched him in the head and took his wallet from his pocket, according to police.

A MAN WAS arrested at about 7:10 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, after he allegedly stole a delivered package in the 4900 block of West Ainslie Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A witness reported that she saw the man remove a Federal Express package from the porch of a home, and officers arrested the suspect after they discovered him walking eastbound with the stolen package in his possession, according to police.

A MAN WAS arrested after he allegedly burglarized the garage of a home in the 5200 block of North Mobile Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An off-duty police officer reported that she saw a man leave a garage carrying a cordless hand drill and that the man fled to his nearby home when she announced her office, according to police. The suspect was arrested in the alley after he left his home, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Sean P. Dole, age 36, of the 5200 block of Mobile.

A MAN REPORTED that his car was set on fire at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday, March 15, in the 3900 block of North Osceola Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 51-year-old man reported that he discovered that the right rear tire of his 2014 Jeep Wrangler was flat, and after he repaired the tire he discovered that the hood of the vehicle had been burned, according to police. The man reported that a surveillance video showed two women pour liquid on the hood and light it on fire, police said.

A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 6:40 p.m. Saturday, March 14, in the Jefferson Park Medical Center building, 4955 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 74-year-old man reported that a man entered the rear door of his office with a handgun and took $250 from his pocket, according to police.

AN EMPLOYEE reported that a man stole a cell phone from the Metro PCS store, 6350 N. Milwaukee Ave., at about between 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 14, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that he saw a man take a Samsung Galaxy S5 cell phone valued at $600 and leave the store without paying for it, according to police.

A MAN REPORTED that the Faith Community Presbyterian Church, 3900 N. Plainfield Ave., was broken into between 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, and 6:45 p.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The pastor of the church reported that he discovered that the office door had been broken in, and that he later discovered that entry had been gained through a broken window in the basement, according to police.

A WOMAN reported that her home in the 5000 block of West Pensacola Avenue was burglarized between 8:20 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. Monday, March 16, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that someone her home had been entered through a front window and that an Hewlett-Packard laptop computer valued at $500, a Dell laptop computer valued at $500, two gold rings valued at $2,500, two handbags valued at $700 and checkbooks, credit cards and identification cards were missing, according to police.

A WOMAN reported that her home in the 6900 block of West Foster Avenue was burglarized between 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday, March 16, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered kitchen window was open and that jewelry and Sony Play Station 2 and 3 video game controllers were missing, according to police.

A WOMAN reported that the garage of her home in the 5600 block of North Major Avenue was burglarized at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she discovered that the garage door had been forced off its tracks and that a Milwaukee Sawzall valued at $200, a Skil saw valued at $200, two Hitachi framing nail guns valued at $289, a Generac generator valued at $800, a rotary laser valued at $950 and a Toro lawn mower valued at $450 were missing, according to police.
