Local Crime from 16th District 3-20-19
A MAN REPORTED that he was carjacked at gunpoint at about 9:45 p.m. Sunday, March 17, in the 4600 block of North Leamington Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 25-year-old man reported that while he was sitting in his parked green 2015 Chevrolet Sonic, an older model silver minivan parked next to him and two men exited the vehicle and one man approached him from the driver’s side and pointed a handgun at him, and another man approached him from the passenger side and said, "You better get out of the car homey, or he’s going to shoot you," according to police.
The man reported that he exited his vehicle and the man on the passenger side searched through his pockets and took his cell phone and wallet containing credit cards and state identification cards before he entered his vehicle and drove away eastbound, and that the man with the handgun entered the minivan and drove away behind him, police said.
The men were described as white/Hispanic, age 25 to 29, with short black hair and medium complexions. The man with the handgun was described as about 5-8 and 175 pounds, and the second man was described as about 5-9 and 140 pounds.
TWO MEN were arrested after they allegedly broke into an apartment in the 6800 block of North Overhill Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A witness reported that she saw through her door viewer two men enter a neighbor’s apartment unit and officers approached the unit and discovered that the doorframe had been damaged and heard two male voices inside the apartment, and that when they entered the residence they saw two men exit through a rear door, police said.
The officers apprehended one of the men on the third floor landing, and the other man removed the window screen from a second floor apartment, jumped through the window onto the sidewalk and ran away northwest through an alley, according to police.
A different witness reported that he saw a suspicious man on his porch in a neighboring apartment building and that the man walked away limping southbound in an alley, and officers arrested the man after they located him on the floor inside an open apartment entryway and he matched a description, according to police. The man was transported to Community First Medical Center for treatment, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as Jesus Petrov, age 36, of the 4800 block of North Saint Louis Avenue, and Mickey M. Petrov, age 34, of the 4000 block of North Ozark Avenue.
A MAN WAS charged with unlawful possession of a handgun and driving under the influence of alcohol following his arrest at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday, March 16, in the 5300 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers stopped a vehicle that crossed the centerline of traffic into a left hand turn lane, and the driver was arrested after the officers smelled the odor of alcohol on his breath and he failed sobriety tests and they discovered a .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun loaded with 10 live rounds and two loaded magazines containing 10 live rounds inside the vehicle, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Jorge De Leon, age 28, of the 3100 block of North Monitor Avenue.
AN EMPLOYEE of Moretti’s Ristorante and Pizzeria, 6727 N. Olmsted Ave., reported that he recovered a handgun from a customer following an incident at about 12:45 a.m. Sunday, March 17, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 26-year-old man reported that while he was drinking at the restaurant he started arguing with a man and then got into a fistfight with him, according to police. An employee reported that after he broke up the fight and was attempting to escort the man from the establishment, a .45-caliber handgun loaded with six live rounds fell out of the man’s pocket onto the floor and that the man fled southwest, police said.
The man was described as black, age 20 to 30, between 5-10 and 6-3, between 160 and 190 pounds, and wearing a gray jacket.
AN EMPLOYEE of the 7-Eleven store, 5959 W. Belmont Ave., reported that two men shoplifted items from the business at about 8:10 a.m. Saturday, March 16, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that two men entered the business, took a vase containing water and a rose valued at $40 and exited the store without paying for the items, and that he attempted to detain the men and chased after them southbound on North McVicker Avenue, according to police.
The men were described as white/Hispanic, age 18 to 25, between 5-7 and 5-9, between 170 and 180 pounds, with brown eyes, black hair and medium complexions.
A WOMAN reported that a man broke into her residence in the 4800 block of West Dakin Street at about 5 p.m. Saturday, March 16, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 70-year-old woman reported that while she was in her basement she heard someone on the first floor, walked upstairs and saw a man inside her residence, and that when she asked him what he wanted, the man exited through the back door and fled, according to police. The woman reported that she discovered that $20 in cash was missing, police said.
The man was described as Hispanic, age 25 to 30, about 5-10 and 170 pounds, with black hair and wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and black shoes.
A COUPLE reported that their vehicle was burglarized between 6:40 p.m. and 7:40 p.m. Saturday, March 16, while it was parked in the 3500 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The couple reported that when they returned to their vehicle they discovered the rear passenger side window had been shattered and that a Kate Spade purse and wallet valued at $130 containing a cell phone valued at $100, credit cards and identification cards, and a book bag valued at $100 containing a global positioning system valued at $100, $6 in cash and an Apple iPad tablet computer were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her vehicle was burglarized between 4 p.m. Thursday, March 14, and 7 p.m. Friday, March 15, while it was parked in the 6100 block of North Legett Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to her vehicle she discovered a duffel bag valued at $50 containing an Apple iPad tablet computer valued at $600, a hair dryer valued at $400, a Nintendo Switch video game system and two video games valued at $360, prescription medication and clothing was missing, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE of the Auto Zone store, 6520 W. Irving Park Road, reported that three company vehicles were damaged at about 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that he discovered that all four tires had been punctured on three company vehicles at the store, according to police.
