Local Crime from 16th District 3-6-19
THREE MEN WERE charged with aggravated battery after they allegedly attacked a man at about 2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, in the parking lot of the McDonald’s restaurant, 4946 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 58-year-old man reported that he exited the restaurant and saw a truck parked next to his vehicle and three men eating food on the hood of his vehicle, and that when he approached the men and asked them to remove the food, the men began cursing and yelling white racial slurs at him, according to police.
The man reported that after he started to back out of the parking space, the men began throwing objects at his vehicle, and that when he exited his vehicle to take photographs of their vehicle’s license plate, the men continued to throw objects and yell white racial slurs at him, police said.
The man reported that he ran toward a police vehicle he saw driving on Milwaukee Avenue and attempted to stop it, and that when he returned to his vehicle, the men surrounded him, pushed him and then punched him several times in his face and head, according to police.
A witness reported that she was sitting inside the restaurant and ran outside to help the man, and that when she yelled at the men, they stopped attacking him, police said. The men were arrested after they were identified, according to police.
The man was transported to Community First Hospital in serious condition, police said. The three men were identified as gang members, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as Edgar Andrade, age 20, and Angel Lopez, age 21, of the 5200 block of South Whipple Street, and Roberto Navarro-Reyes, age 21, of the 3000 block of West 55th Street.
TWO MEN WERE charged with trespassing following their arrest at about 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 1, at the McDonald’s restaurant, 4946 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A manager reported that two men were allegedly drinking alcohol and causing a disturbance at the restaurant for several hours, and that he asked the men several times to leave, but they refused to do so, according to police. Officers reported that they arrested two men who matched a description in the restaurant lobby and that one of the men was holding a garbage bag containing empty beer bottles, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as Armando Munoz, age 46, of the 4800 block of North Pulaski Road, and Mark Bills, age 34, of the 4000 block of West Parker Avenue.
A MAN WAS charged with aggravated assault and trespassing following his arrest at about 4:45 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at Resurrection Medical Center, 7435 W. Talcott Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An employee reported that security asked a man several times to exit the premises who was allegedly causing a disturbance at the pharmacy and that the man refused to leave, clenched his fists toward security, pulled a knife out of his backpack and walked toward him with it, according to police. Officers reported that they arrested the man after they recovered a paring knife in his backpack and discovered there was an active warrant issued for his arrest, police said.
The suspect was identified as Richard Clemons, age 43, of the 200 block of East King Street, Detroit, Mich.
A MAN REPORTED that a man threatened him with a baseball bat at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday, March 3, in the 7700 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 32-year-old man reported that while he was arguing with a man on the sidewalk, the man threatened him with a baseball bat, and that the man placed the bat inside the trunk of a Jeep automobile before he entered the vehicle and drove away westbound, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 3 p.m. Friday, March 1, in the 5300 block of North Delphia Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 61-year-old woman reported that as she was walking past four men on the sidewalk, one of the men walked up to her, took her cellphone with a black case containing two gift cards valued at $130 from her purse and walked away with it, according to police.
The man was described as tall and thin, with a dark complexion and wearing a black jacket and blue jeans.
A TEENAGER reported that he was robbed at about 2:55 p.m. Friday, March 1, in the 3700 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 16-year-old teenager reported that while he was walking southbound and talking on his cell phone, a man pushed him from behind, took his cell phone and fled on a CTA bus, according to police.
The man was described as between 5-8 and 6-0, between 170 and 180 pounds, and wearing a black jacket and black pants.
AN EMPLOYEE of the Dollar Tree store, 5708 W. Irving Park Road, reported that a man burglarized the business at about 7:10 p.m. Saturday, March 2, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that the store’s video surveillance system recorded footage of a man who entered an office and took $1,000 in cash from a safe and then fled with the money, according to police.
The man was described as wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black gym shoes.
AN EMPLOYEE of the Sally Beauty Supply store, 6500 W. Irving Park Road, reported that two women shoplifted items at about 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 1, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that a woman entered the store and began to remove hair extensions valued at $2,000 from hooks, and that when she told the woman she could not remove the items, she began to argue with her as another woman entered the store, asked about perms, and then exited, according to police.
The employee reported that when she asked the woman if she was ready to pay for the hair extensions, the woman pushed her out of the way as she attempted to stop her from exiting the store with the items, police said.
The employee reported that after the woman exited the store without paying for the items, she yelled "I got this" to the other woman and they both entered a gray Nissan automobile with Florida license plates in the parking lot and drove away eastbound, according to police.
The women were described as black and age 27 to 32.
A COUPLE reported that their home in the 3800 block of North Odell Avenue was burglarized between 8:25 p.m. Saturday, March 2, and 12:05 a.m. Sunday, March 3, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The couple reported that when they returned home they discovered that the front door had been broken and that four passports, two Michael Kors watches and purses, and $1,000 in cash were missing, according to police.
A COUPLE reported that their home in the 5300 block of North Cicero Avenue was burglarized between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The couple reported that when they returned home they discovered that the side door had been broken and that jewelry valued at $18,000 and $1,800 in cash were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was burglarized between 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, and 6:45 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, in the 5100 block of North Mango Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his vehicle he discovered that the rear driver’s side door had been broken and a Nike bag valued at $50 containing a pair of soccer cleats valued at $200, five notebooks and $100 in cash was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was burglarized between 2:15 a.m. and 5 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn hotel, 5615 N. Cumberland Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his vehicle he discovered that a padlock had been broken off of the rear door and a case containing microphones and cables valued at $3,500, a bass guitar valued at $2,000, a trombone and case valued at $1,300 and an amplifier and case were missing, according to police
SEVERAL car thefts were reported between Feb. 25 and March 3, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Incidents of stolen vehicles were reported in the 4000 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, the 3700 block of North Lamon Avenue, the 5500 block of North Neenah Avenue, the 5200 block of West Berteau Avenue, the 6200 block of West School Street and the 3300 block of North Leclair Avenue, according to police.
