Local Crime from 16th District 4-17-19
EMPLOYEES of Citibank, 3535 N. Central Ave., reported that the bank was robbed at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A teller reported that a man handed her a note stating a robbery and the man gestured and implied that he had a weapon, and that she gave him about $2,500 in cash from a drawer and that the man ran away, according to police.
The man was described as white, age 30 to 40, 5-5 to 5-6, 160 to 170 pounds, and wearing a black Nike hooded sweatshirt, faded dark blue jeans, a black and white print baseball cap, sunglasses and a surgical mask.
THREE MEN were arrested for allegedly robbing a man and a woman at about 4:30 a.m. Monday, April 8, on the train platform at the CTA Jefferson Park Blue Line station, 4917 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 27-year-old man and 23-year-old woman reported that they were riding the train when a man verbally harassed them, and that they exited the train at Jefferson Park to avoid him when the man and two other men followed them off the train and began punching both of them and grabbed the man’s jacket containing his cellphone and wallet with miscellaneous ID cards before officers separated the parties, recovered the proceeds and arrested the three men, according to police.
The suspects were identified by police as Jose L. Paredes, age 23, of the 5200 block of West Roscoe Street, Juan S. Cruz, age 21, of the 3700 block of West Sunnyside Avenue, and Alexis Fernandez, age 24, of the 4300 block of North Pulaski Road.
A WOMAN reported that she was kidnapped at about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, in the 3500 block of North Cicero Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 26-year-old woman reported that she was riding her long board when a man grabbed her from behind and shoved her into the passenger seat of his Toyota Avalon and that she asked "where are we, where are we going?" and the man replied "the point is for you not to know" and he rubbed her thigh, according to police. The woman reported that the Toyota stopped near Knox Avenue and Roscoe Street and she was able to break free and run away through the rear door, according to police.
The man was described as white, about 6-1 and 175 pounds, with brown eyes, short blonde/strawberry colored hair.
TWO MEN were arrested for allegedly attacking a man in the 3700 block of North Harlem Avenue at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 11, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he was walking when two men approached him, argued about a watch and punched him, and officers arrived during the altercation and arrested the two men, according to police.
The suspects were identified by police as Victor Alvarez, age 24, of the 5100 block of West Parker Avenue, and Roberto Gonzalez III, age 18, of the 1900 block of North Keystone Avenue.
A MAN REPORTED that he was attacked at about 1:50 p.m. Thursday, April 11, in an alley in the 3700 block of North Cicero Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 28-year-old man reported that he was walking in an alley when he was hit in the head by an unknown object and saw two men running north to Warwick Avenue before he felt blood, became light-headed and lost consciousness, according to police. The man reported that a relative transported him to Community First Medical Center for treatment, police said.
A MAN WAS stabbed in an apparent domestic-related incident at about 10 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, in the 5400 block of North Marmora Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A woman reported that the power went out at their upstairs apartment and that her husband went to reset the basement circuit breaker when the basement tenants, her husband’s sister and boyfriend, attacked her husband and the sister’s boyfriend restrained him as the sister stabbed him repeatedly in the arms and face with a butcher knife before they fled, according to police. The man was transported to Lutheran General Hospital in serious condition, police said.
A WOMAN reported that a woman attacked her and tried to steal her belongings at about 7:45 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at Illinois Nails, 5910 W. Lawrence Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she laid her wallet on a table while getting her nails done when a woman entered, grabbed her wallet and ran out, and that she ran after the woman into the parking lot, wrestled the woman and retrieved the wallet, and that the thief entered a Maroon sport utility vehicle with three additional women and fled, according to police.
The woman was described as white, with sandy blonde hair, arm and neck tattoos, and wearing a black and red blouse and blue jeans.
A WOMAN reported that numerous vehicles were vandalized with a BB gun at about 3:20 p.m. Saturday, April 13, in the 5300 block of West Agatite Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 28-year-old woman reported that she saw a small blue sedan with two men driving east on Agatite, and that the passenger leaned out the window with a chrome-colored BB gun and shot the windows out of five parked vehicles before the sedan drove away north on Laramie Avenue, according to police.
NUMEROUS people reported that their vehicles’ tires were slashed between 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, and 8 a.m. Friday, April 12, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Slashed vehicle tires were reported in the 3600 block of North Pacific Avenue, the 4000 block of North Mango Avenue, the 5000 block of North McVicker Avenue, the 5100 block of West Melrose Street and the 6100 block of West Giddings Street, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he was the victim of a scam at about noon Monday, April 8, at his home in the 7700 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he was outside his apartment when a man approached him asking about replacement windows and he brought the man inside for a short time until the man left, met with a second man in the stairwell and they both drove away north on Ozark in a newer model dark gray pickup truck, and that he later discovered $300 in cash was missing from a bedroom drawer, according to police.
Both men were described as white/Hispanic with light brown complexions, about age 50, approximately 5-8 and 190 pounds, with short brown hair, and wearing blue jeans.
TWO MEN were shot at about 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 8, in the 4000 block of North Saint Louis Avenue, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
A couple reported that they were at home when they heard three gunshots and the woman went outside and saw a man running into a white Dodge Magnum that sped away south on Saint Louis before turning west into an alley of Irving Park Road, according to police. Officers discovered two men, age 26 and 29, on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds and they were transported in serious condition to Illinois Masonic Hospital, police said. Officers discovered three spent 9mm bullet casings on scene, police said.
The man was described as tall with a skinny build, and wearing a mask, khaki pants and a black jacket.
A MAN REPORTED that he was attacked in an apparent road rage incident at about 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 12, in the 3900 block of North Cumberland Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 30-year-old man reported that he was driving north on Cumberland and saw a woman erratically driving a black Nissan or Toyota sport utility vehicle in the same direction, and that when they stopped at a red light the woman threw an unknown liquid out the window and onto the man’s face and neck, causing a burning sensation, and he was transported to Resurrection Hospital for treatment, according to police.
The woman was described as white, with black ponytail hair.
THEFTS of catalytic converters were reported between April 9 and April 13, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 4700 block of North Leamington Avenue, the 5000 block of North Parkside Avenue, the 5000 block of West Ainslie Street, the 5700 block of West Grover Street and the 5900 block of West Higgins Avenue, according to police.
SEVERAL vehicles were reported stolen between April 9 and April 12, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Stolen vehicles were reported in the 3300 block of North Oleander Avenue, the 4100 block of North Mango Avenue, the 5100 block of North Meade Avenue and the 4200 blocks of North Milwaukee and North Moody avenues, according to police.

A COUPLE reported that their home in the 3400 block of North Laramie Avenue was burglarized between 1:30 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. Sunday, April 14, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The couple reported that when they returned home they discovered that the rear doorframe was broken, and that a jewelry box containing jewelry valued at $7,000 and a purse containing bank cards and $2,150 in cash were missing, according to police.
