Local Crime from 16th District 4-26-17
TWO MEN REPORTED that a man fired a gun at their vehicle at about 7:05 p.m. Saturday, April 22, in the 5300 block of North Laramie Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 30-year-old man and a 28-year-old man reported that while they were driving they saw a man standing in the middle of the street looking at them and that the man pointed a gun at them, according to police. The men reported that they drove past the man and around the block, and that when they approached the intersection of Laramie and Rogers avenues, the man fired the gun at their vehicle and damaged a tire before he fled, police said.
A WOMAN WAS shot at about 12:20 a.m. Thursday, April 20, in the 5400 block of North Chester Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 55-year-old woman reported that two men approached her and that one of the men demanded her belongings and shot her in the lower right abdomen with a hand gun, and that the other man took her belongings and pushed her to the ground before both men fled, according to police.
A witness reported that she saw a man and a woman walk past the window of her residence that she said looked "off," and that she heard one gunshot and heard the woman screaming, police said. The woman reported that she saw a man running through Grandparents Park and a dark-colored vehicle driving slowly in the area, according to police.
A second witness reported that she heard a gunshot while inside her residence and that when she walked out to the balcony, she saw a man struggling with a woman who then ran away, according to police.
The woman was transported to Lutheran General Hospital in stable condition and treated for a gunshot wound, police said.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 12:05 a.m. Monday, April 17, at a business office located in the 4900 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 46-year-old woman reported that while she was cleaning the business, three men entered and asked if they could use the restroom, and that after she refused to let them, one of the men grabbed her around the neck and choked her while another man took a cosmetic bag containing medications, car keys and $80 in cash from her, according to police. The woman reported that the third man walked around inside the business before all three men fled, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his 2002 blue Toyota Corolla was stolen after he had left the door open and the key in the ignition at about 1 p.m. Sunday, April 23, in the 5700 block of West Giddings Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he left his car for a short time to go to another vehicle when another car drove next to the car and someone entered his car and drove off, according to police.
TWO TEENAGERS reported that two men attempted to rob them while they were walking at about 12:30 a.m. Monday, April 24, in the 4100 block of North Laramie Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The teens reported that each of the assailants displayed a handgun and ordered them to drop their cell phones, according to police. The teens reported that they fled with their phones and hid in a backyard, police said.
A MAN WAS arrested following an incident at about 7:05 a.m. Thursday, April 20, at the Jefferson Park CTA Transit Center, 4917 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An officer reported that he stopped a man for smoking a cigarette on CTA property and that a name check revealed the man had multiple active warrants issued for his arrest, according to police. The officer reported that after he called for backup and attempted to place the man in custody, the man grabbed him and injured his right arm and shoulder, and ran south on Milwaukee Avenue, police said.
Responding officers caught the man in the 4700 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, and the man was arrested after he refused to cooperate with the officers, swung his arms at them, and allegedly struck and injured one of the officers, according to police.
Both injured officers were treated at Community First Hospital for minor injuries, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Eligio E. Monreal, age 24, of the 3300 block of North Kedzie Avenue.
TWO MEN reported that their home in the 5300 block of West Cullom Avenue was burglarized at about 9 p.m. Saturday, April 22, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the front window and front door had been opened and that his Apple laptop computer was missing, according to police. The man’s roommate reported that when he returned home he discovered that his Apple laptop computer and an iPad were missing, and that when he used the iPad’s digital tracking device, he tracked the signal to a location in the 5200 block of West Hutchinson Avenue and found a black bag containing his laptop computer and iPad, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that his car and three bicycles were stolen from the garage of his home in the 4100 block of North Lawler Avenue between 7 p.m. Saturday, April 22, and 9:15 a.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his garage he discovered that his gray 2015 Toyota Highlander and three bicycles valued at $2,400 were missing, according to police. The man reported that the keys were inside of the vehicle and the door to the garage was unlocked, police said.
THE OWNER OF the Ecua Techs store, 4948 W. Irving Park Road, reported that the store was burglarized between 11 a.m. and 4:20 p.m. Saturday, April 22, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to the business he discovered that the rear door had been damaged and that four iPhone 7 cell phones, a Samsung Galaxy S5 cell phone, a Samsung Galaxy S6 cell phone, a Hewlett-Packard x360 laptop computer and a Lenovo X1 laptop computer were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his bicycle was stolen from a bicycle rack located outside of the Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant, 7240 W. Devon Ave., between 3 and 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to retrieve his unlocked mountain bicycle valued at $300 he discovered that it was missing, according to police.
