Local Crime from 16th District 6-26-19
SHOTS were fired at about noon Tuesday, June 18, in the 5300 block of West Foster Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A man reported that he heard two gunshots at about noon while another anonymous neighbor reported that they saw a male wearing a baseball cap who drove away in a black Dodge or Lincoln vehicle with tinted windows, according to police. A third resident of the block reported that when he returned home he discovered a bullet hole in the windshield of his parked car, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that his house in the 5300 block of West Waveland Avenue was hit by gunfire between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, June 22, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 66-year-old man reported that when he returned home he discovered that a bullet went through his roof and was lodged in a shoe slipper, and officers recovered a 9mm round from the slipper, according to police.
A MAN WAS arrested on weapons charges following a foot chase that began at about 12:40 p.m. Thursday, June 20, in the 4900 block of West Montrose Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responded to a call of a man with a gun by Montrose and Cicero avenues and saw a man matching the description walking west in the 4900 block of Montrose, who then ran away east on Montrose after noticing police approaching, and officers chased the man as he ran through various alleys, residential gangways and the property of Saint John’s Lutheran School until the man collapsed and was detained in a backyard in the 4400 block of North Lamon Avenue, according to police. Officers recovered a loaded and unregistered .380-caliber handgun from the man’s sweatshirt pocket and he was arrested, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Adam Lique, age 18, of the 2400 block of West Cullom Avenue.
A TEENAGER reported an attempted luring at about 9:15 p.m. Friday, June 21, in the 5900 block of West Bryn Mawr Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The teen reported that she was returning to a friend’s house when a maroon, newer model minivan with a broken passenger-side mirror and four male occupants pulled up and the front passenger whistled and said, "Come in my car and if you do come in my car I’ll give you anything," and that she ignored the request and quickly returned inside and the minivan drove away.
All four men were described as age 35 to 40, and the man who spoke to her was further described as white, about 220 to 230 pounds, with medium-length brown hair.
A MAN WAS placed into custody for allegedly attacking bar customers and a police officer at about 11 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at Rabbits Bar, 4945 W. Foster Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A man reported that another customer was being unruly, threw a beer bottle on the floor and struck him in the hip area, while a 40-year-old woman reported that the man punched her in the head and knocked her unconscious and a 33-year-old man reported that he was helping escort the man out the bar when the man bit him in the shoulder, according to police. An officer responded and the man allegedly fought over an officer’s chemical pepper spray and bit him on the forearm before the officer sprayed and detained the man, and the customer and officer who were bit were both treated at Amita Health Resurrection Medical Center while the suspect was treated at Swedish Covenant Hospital before being placed into police custody, police said.
It is unclear if the man was charged with a crime.
A MAN WAS arrested for allegedly threatening a neighbor with a spear at about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, in the 4200 block of North Menard Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A man reported that he was arguing with a neighbor about a parking space when the neighbor displayed and waived a homemade spear with a black blade and said "this is what you are going to get," and responding officers recovered the spear from the man’s home and arrested him on signed complaints, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as John C. Bazewick, age 64, of the 4200 block of North Menard Avenue.
A MAN REPORTED that a man tried to hurt him during an apparent road rage incident at about 1:15 p.m. Thursday, June 20, in the 6000 block of West Warwick Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 40-year-old man reported that while in traffic a man driving a gray Lexus jumped out of the car yelling at him and tried to throw a punch, and that the man continued to drive the Lexus in after him, according to police.
The man was described as white, about 6-1 and 260 pounds, with bald hair.
AN EMPLOYEE of TCF Bank, 4930 N. Milwaukee Ave., reported that a man threatened him at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that a customer claimed to have made an ATM deposit that showed up incorrectly on a receipt, and that when he informed the customer of the claim investigation process the man became irate and said "I’m gonna shoot this place up," according to police.
The man was described as white/Hispanic with a medium complexion, about age 25, approximately 6-2 and 190 pounds, with short black hair and a neck tattoo.
A MAN WAS arrested for allegedly trying to steal a vehicle at about 3 a.m. Monday, June 17, in a parking lot in the 8500 block of West Rascher Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responded to a call of an auto theft in progress and detained a man in the passenger seat of a 2001 Toyota Corolla attempting to hide objects, and officers found suspected burglary tools in the car, discovered that the Toyota’s steering wheel column was removed and then arrested the man, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Jacek Bielawski, age 32, of the 1300 block of Surrey Court, Algonquin.
SEVERAL catalytic converters were reported stolen between June 16 and 23, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 5300 block of West Cornelia Avenue, the 5400 block of West Giddings Street, the 5700 block of West Eastwood Avenue and the 5900 block of West Foster Avenue, and an attempted theft was reported in the 4800 block of North Mason Avenue, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he was the victim of a scam at his home in the 5300 block of North Osceola Avenue at about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 22, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that two men with walkie-talkies and a clipboard rang his doorbell, said they were doing construction work at a neighbor’s property and needed a bucket of hot water and he let the men in when he noticed that one of the men went upstairs into the bedrooms, and that when he tried to go to the stairs the other man prevent him from moving before they drove away in a white 1980’s-model Chevrolet pickup truck, according to police. The resident reported that three pairs of earrings, a gold ring, a silver ring, a gold necklace and a silver necklace with a crucifix were missing, and that one of the men left the clipboard behind on a bed, police said.
Both men were described as age 20 to 30, with medium-colored complexions and short hair, and wearing black gloves and black baseball caps. One man was further described as 5-6 to 5-9, 200 to 220 pounds, brown eyed, and wearing a tan button-down shirt, blue jeans and black and orange sunglasses, and the other as 5-10 to 6-1, 175 to 190 pounds, and wearing a light gray long-sleeved T-shirt, tan khaki pants and black boots.
A MAN REPORTED that his mother was the victim of a scam at her home in the 5300 block of West Hutchinson Street at about 5 p.m. Sunday, June 23, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he arrived at his mother’s home to pick her up when he noticed a gray 1990’s-model pickup truck was parked in front of her house and the truck passenger said they were "working on the foundation of the house," and that he noticed a second man in the basement who repeated the same story and ran out of the basement and his wife saw a third man run from the rear of the house into the pickup truck and they drove away west, according to police. The female resident reported that the men knocked on the door and claimed they were "checking for lead in the water" and that two cufflinks valued at $200 and possible additional proceeds were missing from an opened jewelry box and various dressers, police said.
One man was described as white/Hispanic, age 20 to 27, about 5-7, with brown eyes, medium-length black hair and a dark complexion, another man as age 20 to 29, about 5-6 and 240 pounds, with white hair, and the third man as age 20 to 29, about 5-4, with short black hair.
CONSTRUCTION workers reported that Reinberg School, 5637 W. Newport Ave., which is under renovation, was burglarized between midnight and 3 p.m. Sunday, June 23, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A resident reported that she saw three males in a white sport utility vehicle coming and going from the construction site at various times throughout the day and notified police that a hole was cut into a fence, and two construction firm employees reQported that they discovered a storage area door was pried open and that 30 grinder tools valued at $1,560, a table saw valued at $600, two portable electric generators valued at $4,300, a woodworking and masonry tool valued at $950, four demolition hammers valued at $2,690, two saws valued at $400, two chop-saws valued at $1,060 and a concrete saw valued at $1,160 were missing, according to police.
