Local Crime from 16th District 5-24-17
A WOMAN reported that a man attempted to lure her child at about 5:20 p.m. Sunday, May 21, in the 5400 block of Neenah Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when her 6-year-old daughter ran outside near the intersection of Neenah and Balmoral avenues, a man driving a silver 4-door sedan approached her, offered her candy and said to get into his car, according to police. The woman reported that the man drove away east on Balmoral when her daughter’s brother approached his vehicle, police said.
The man was described as a white and age 50, and wearing white or gray short-sleeved shirt mostly and glasses, and bald with white hair on the side of his head.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 19, on the platform at the Jefferson Park CTA Blue Line station, 4917 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 29-year-old man reported that while he was talking on his cell phone, a man punched him on the right side of his face and another man knocked him to the ground and took his wallet containing $160 and a debit card, according to police.
TWO PARK DISTRICT employees reported on May 19 that a teenager fired a rifle at them at about 6:20 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at Wildwood Park, 6950 N. Hiawatha Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employees reported that a man was arguing with them about sand for the baseball field diamonds and that after they asked the man to move to another area of the park so that they could complete their maintenance of the field, the man went to his white 4-door 1997 Toyota Camry, retrieved a rifle and handed the rifle to a juvenile male who fired the weapon toward them and other patrons in the park, according to police. One of the employees reported that she discovered that a projectile had damaged her windshield, police said. It is not clear if the weapon was a BB rifle or a regular rifle, according to police.
THE OWNER of the Underground Club, 6855 W. Addison St., was issued citations for operating without a business license or liquor license, and for operating two coin-operated machines without a license after an incident involving the response of a SWAT team to an alleged armed robbery that did not occur at about 5:10 a.m. Thursday, May 18, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A witness reported that there was an armed robbery in progress at the club, that "Brother George" was locked in a bathroom and that "the robbers took everyone’s cell phones," according to police. Officers saw a man exit the front door of the business and that when the man was ordered by officers to get on the ground, someone locked the door while the man was transported to a police vehicle, police said.
Officers said that the man was uncooperative when questioned about the establishment and who was inside the business, and after attempts by officers to knock on the door were unanswered and calls to the cell phone of the witness were directed immediately to voicemail, the officers requested the services of a Special Weapons and Tactical team, according to police.
Officers reported that upon the arrival of the SWAT team and negotiators, communication was made with the individuals who were inside the business at the time and the incident was resolved without any injuries to witnesses or personnel, and it was determined through further investigation and interviews with witnesses that an armed robbery did not take place at the business, police said.
THREE NORTHWEST Side wireless retail stores were broken into between 2:20 a.m. and 3:55 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responded to an alarm at about 3:20 a.m. at the TCC Wireless store, 6342 N. Cicero Ave., and saw a broken glass panel on the front door and three black boxes inside the business that were forced open but nothing was missing, according to police.
Officers responded to a report of a burglary at the Metro PCS store, 3208 N. Cicero Ave., at about 3:55 a.m. and saw a man inside the business who he exited the rear of the store when officers approached him, entered a black 4-door Chevrolet automobile driven by someone else and drove away, according to police. The owner reported that between $100 and $250 was missing from a cash register, police said.
Officers responded to a report of thefts at 4 a.m. to the Metro PCS store, 6350 N. Milwaukee Ave., and saw that the glass front door had been shattered and papers were lying on the ground, according to police. The employee reported that 20 cell phones valued at $3,000, a cash register valued at $150 and $200 in cash were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his apartment in the 5000 block of West Winona Street was burglarized between 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20, and 3:30 a.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that a bin filled with tools valued at $1,000, an aluminum racking jack valued at $700, two bins of Christmas ornaments valued at $200, seven bottles of whiskey valued at $600 and $6,500 in cash were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her vehicle was burglarized between 10 p.m. Saturday, May 20, and 12:50 p.m. the following day, while it was parked in the 5700 block of West Waveland Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to her vehicle she discovered that the vehicle’s stereo system valued at $500 was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her vehicle was burglarized between 9:30 p.m. Friday, May 19, and 2:45 a.m. the following day, in the 3400 block of North Orange Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to her vehicle, she observed the front passenger door window had been shattered and discovered that a global positioning system valued at $199 and a pair of glasses valued at $169 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his apartment in the 3600 block of North Osceola Avenue was burglarized at about 4 p.m. Saturday, May 13, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the front door had been forced open and that 20 prescription pills of Vicodin and $1,200 in cash were missing, according to police.
