Local Crime from 16th District 5-30-18
A MAN WAS shot at about 5:30 a.m. Saturday, May 26, in the 6100 block of West Waveland Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that a friend called him to meet on Waveland and when he drove to the location a different man walked up to the vehicle, opened the passenger side door and shot him 15 times in the left shoulder, right chest, right leg, right arm and abdomen, and that the shooter drove away in a silver Volkswagen Jetta, according to police. The man reported that he drove after the car for a few blocks before he stopped in the 6100 block of West Grace Street and called for help, police said. Witnesses heard the man and the man was transported in critical condition to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, according to police.
The shooter was described as white/Hispanic, age 43, 5-9 and 220 pounds, and bald.
A MAN STRUCK a police officer with his vehicle at about 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, in the 5300 block of North Nagle Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An 18-year-old woman reported that she was driving home from Taft High School and discovered that she was being followed by a car belonging to her ex-boyfriend and that she stopped on Nagle and told the man that she called police and the man responded "I don’t care, watch them arrest me" and waited until police arrived, according to police.
An officer attempted to stop the man on foot as he started to pull into southbound traffic on Nagle and the man struck the officer with the car, flipping him over the top of the vehicle and causing injuries, police said. The officer was treated at Resurrection Medical Center, according to police. Other officers saw the man drive in and out of traffic and strike four other vehicles while fleeing the scene, and the man was not apprehended, police said.
The man was described as white, age 19, 5-8 and 130 pounds, with brown eyes, short black hair, a light skin complexion and an anchor, map and a ship tattoo on his lower left arm.
SHOTS were fired at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 24, in the 5600 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An officer saw a man fire a revolver and two men running north from Irving Park Road to Major Avenue, and discovered a man hiding in the 4000 block of North Major Avenue who reported that he was a gang member and was shot at by a rival gang, according to police.
The shooter was described as white, with red/Auburn colored hair and a face tattoo.
A MAN WAS attacked with brass knuckles in an apparent gang-related incident at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at bus stop in the 5600 block of West Lawrence Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he purchased beer at the CVS Pharmacy, 4801 N. Central Ave., when two members of a rival gang recognized him, shouted at him, and followed him outside where he waited for the bus and both attacked him with brass knuckles, causing serious injuries and he was treated at Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, according to police.
The men were described as white and age 20.
AN EMPLOYEE of the T-Mobile store, 4809 W. Irving Park Road, reported that cellphones were stolen at about 1:45 p.m. Friday, May 25, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that two men entered the store and picked up three cellphones valued at $1,355 total and fled without paying, according to police.
One man was described as black, about age 20, approximately 5-5 and 140 pounds, and wearing black jeans and a black sweatshirt with the hood up. The other man was described as black, age 22 to 23, about 5-5 and 150 pounds, and wearing black jeans and a black sweatshirt with the hood up.
A WOMAN reported that she was the victim of a scam at her home in the 5200 block of West Addison Street at about 3 p.m. Monday, May 21, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 79-year-old woman reported that a man approached her front door who stated that her gutters needed repair, that he instructed her to leave the front door open and unlocked so workers could get in and out easily and then led her through the basement and outside gangway to examine gutters, and that the man then went into a black pickup truck driven by another man who flashed him a signal, according to police. The woman reported that she later discovered that her bedroom dresser was searched through and that $6,000 in cash was missing, police said.
The man was described as white, age 35 to 45, about 5-4 to 5-6, and bald.
A MAN REPORTED that belongings were stolen from his vehicle between 6 p.m. Saturday, May 26, and 6 a.m. Sunday, May 27, while it was parked in the 6800 block of North Wildwood Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 63-year-old man reported that when he returned to his car discovered that two gold designer-brand watches valued at $18,000, his Firearm Owners Identification Card, his wife’s FOID card and his concealed carry cards from Illinois and Florida were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her vehicle was burglarized between 10:45 and 11:25 a.m. Friday, May 25, while it was parked in the 5400 block of North Cumberland Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 26-year-old woman reported that when she returned to her Honda Element she discovered the front lock broken and that a book bag valued at $80, a tablet computer device valued at $180, $750 in cash, a driver’s license and debit card were missing, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE of HNG Cleaners, 6051 W. Irving Park Road, reported that the business was burglarized at about 3 p.m. Sunday, May 27, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that when he returned to the business he discovered that the rear door was forced open, and that five boxes of clothing valued at about $2,500, two silver watches valued at $200, a cellphone valued at $4,000, five designer-brand shoes valued at $250 and $11,500 in cash were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her apartment in the 5200 block of North Reserve Avenue was burglarized between 9:30 a.m. and 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that two boxes containing numerous rings and necklaces valued at about $20,000 were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that the garage of her home in the 7800 block of West Seminole Street was burglarized between 5 p.m. Monday, May 21, and 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to the garage she discovered that the side door was forced open and that a sheepskin jacket valued at $1,200, two leather jackets valued at $1,400, 10 pieces of miscellaneous clothing valued at $500, three pairs of shoes valued at $250, a gold leaf china set valued at $400, four kitchen appliances valued at $350, linens valued at $600 and 20 construction tools valued at about $1,500 were missing, according to police.
SEVERAL car thefts were reported between 7 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, and 6:30 a.m. Monday, May 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 5300 block of West Roscoe Street, the 5700 block of West Leland Avenue, the 5200 block of North East River Road, the 6200 block of West Warwick Avenue and the 5900 block of West School Street, according to police.
