Local Crime from 16th District 6-21-17
TWO MEN were arrested for allegedly breaking into a home in the 6800 block of West Hobart Avenue at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 15, while three girls were hiding inside, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The girls, age 8 to 11, reported that they heard the sound of glass breaking from the rear of the house and one of them called 911 and locked herself in the bathroom, while the other two hid in a bedroom, according to police.
Officers said that the men left behind a pillowcase with jewelry when they heard sirens, police said. A knife, which may have been moved from elsewhere in the house, was found on a bed, according to police. The men reportedly did not encounter the girls, who were not injured, police said. The two men apparently cut themselves as they entered the home through a broken window, according to police.
A 43-year-old passerby who lives in the area tackled one of the men and told officers that the other man was in a nearby backyard, where officers found him under a rear deck, police said. A driver for the two men was not apprehended, according to police.
The suspects were identified by police as Michael A. Alarcon, age 29, and Marcos Alarcon, age 25, both of the 3300 block of North Normandy Avenue.
A MAN WAS arrested after he allegedly broke into a residence in the 6100 block of West Byron Street at about 2:50 a.m. Sunday, June 18, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 15-year-old teenager reported that she was sleeping and woke up to her dog barking outside, and that when she went outside to let her dog back into the home, she discovered a man standing in the gangway and called police, according to police. The teen reported the man entered her room and that when she went upstairs and told her 50-year-old father, he went downstairs and asked the man to leave and that when the man refused, her father handcuffed the man and held him on the floor until officers arrived, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Elder Carreto, age 20, of the 2700 block of North Rutherford Avenue.
EMPLOYEES of the McDonald’s restaurant, 6125 N. Milwaukee Ave., reported that a man threatened them with a hammer and robbed the business at about 5:05 a.m. Saturday, June 17, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An employee reported that after he opened the restaurant, a man entered armed with a hammer and ran behind the counter and ordered him to go to the back office and open the safe, according to police. The employee reported that after he opened the safe, the man grabbed the door and the cash drawers in the safe and asked another employee to stand next to the door to the safe, and that when the employee stood next to the safe, the first employee pressed the panic alarm button and the man took $1,340 in cash from the safe and then ran out of the restaurant, police said.
The employee reported that a third employee also witnessed the incident and that both employees recognized the man’s voice and believe the man is a former employee of the restaurant, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 4 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, in the 3600 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 40-year-old woman reported that she was walking when a man pointed a knife at her and demanded her purse, and that another man approached and took her purse containing a cell phone, a Link card, a state identification car, keys and $46 in cash and both men fled in a white sport utility vehicle, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his mother was struck by a brick inside of her home in the 4000 block of North Monitor Avenue at about 5:25 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 36-year-old man reported that while his 68-year-old mother was lying in her bed, a brick shattered through a double pane glass window on the side of the residence and struck her, and that when he ran outside, he discovered the gates to the alley had been opened, according to police.
The woman was treated at Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, police said.
A MAN WAS arrested after he allegedly shoplifted items from the O’Reilly’s Auto Parts store, 4720 N. Milwaukee Ave., at about 10:55 a.m. Saturday, June 17, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An employee reported that he saw the man conceal several items valued at $86 inside his pockets and leave the store without paying for the items, and that when he attempted to detain the man, the man fled the scene, according to police.
Officers arrested a man matching a description in the 5100 block of North Northwest Highway, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Kevin A. Gage, age 46, of the 5200 block of West Monroe Street.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his residence in the 5300 block of North Ludlam Avenue was burglarized between midnight and 6:30 a.m. Friday, June 16, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his garage he discovered that tools valued at $4,000 and an air compressor valued at $75 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was burglarized between 10 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, and 7:30 a.m. Thursday, June 15, in the 6200 block of West Grace Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his vehicle, he discovered that an Apple laptop computer valued at $2,400, an Apple iPad valued at $800, a Samsung Galaxy 6 cell phone valued at $800, 14 framing guns valued at $350 and a compressor valued at $150 were missing, according to police.
VEHICLE thefts were reported between June 11 and June 17, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 5200 block of West Addison Street, the 5100 block of North East River Road, the 3400 block of North Laramie Avenue, the 4400 block of North Linder Avenue, the 3200 block of 3200 North Leclaire Avenue, the 8400 block of West Catherine Avenue, the 4300 block of North Marmora Avenue, the 6100 block of West Roscoe Street and the 6000 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to police.
THEFTS of catalytic converters from vehicles were reported between June 9 and June 16, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 6200 block of West Waveland Avenue, the 5100 block of West Ainslie Street, the 6700 block of North Oketo Avenue, the 6200 block of West Berteau Avenue, the 4000 block of North Meade Avenue, the 6300 block of West Grace Street and the 6600 block of West Palatine Avenue, according to police.
A woman reported that she was sexually assaulted at about 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, in the 3400 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The 26-year-old woman reported that a man followed her into her building and knocked her to the floor, pointed a knife at her and sexually assaulted her, according to police.
The man was described as Hispanic, age 30, 6-1 and 210 pounds, with black hair worn in a bun, and wearing a black T-shirt, tan cargo shorts and slip-on sandals.
The brother of an 11-year-old boy reported that a man attempted to lure the child to a restaurant at about 6 p.m. Thursday, June 8, near the intersection of Christiana and Bryn Mawr avenues, according to 17th (Albany Park) District police.
The brother reported that the boy was riding his bicycle and talking on the phone when a man told him that he could help him find the person he was on the phone with and to walk with him to a restaurant, according to police. The brother reported that the boy rode away on his bicycle and that the man walked east on Bryn Mawr, police said.
The man was described as Hispanic, age 30 and 5-11, with a thin build and black hair worn in a ponytail, and wearing a yellow baseball cap and a blue T-shirt.
