Local Crime from 16th District 6-3-15

A man was shot at about 10:40 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, in the 7400 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

The 27-year-old man reported that he was a passenger in a car with a 30-year-old woman and that two men wearing masks pointed guns at them and demanded money, according to police. The man said that he grabbed the gun and pushed one of the men backwards and then got out of from the car, and that as he was running away, one of the men shot him in the leg, police said.
The man was treated at Lutheran General Hospital, police said.

An employee reported that the Shell gas station, 4001 N. Laramie Ave., was robbed at about 10:10 p.m. Thursday, May 28, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

The 20-year-old man reported that a man displayed a handgun, forced him to lie on the floor and took $70 to $80 in cash from the register and his wallet containing $15 in cash and a debit card, according to police.

The man was described as age 20 to 30, 5-7 to 5-8 and 125 to 150 pounds, and wearing a white fabric over his face, a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and brown shoes.

An employee reported that the BP gas station, 5200 W. Addison St., was robbed about 1:20 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

The 25-year-old man reported that a man walked behind the counter, struck him on the head with a handgun three times and took $1,500 from the cash register, $150 in cash from his wallet and 40 packs of cigarettes, according to police.

A woman reported that she was robbed at about 3 a.m. Thursday, May 28, in the 5400 block of West Gale Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

The 41-year-old woman reported that a man grabbed her and took her letterman’s jacket valued at $250 and her cell phone valued at $500, according to police.

A man was charged with attempted burglary after he allegedly tried to break into a U.S. Postal Service mailbox in the 5200 block of North Laporte Avenue at about 1:20 a.m. Monday, June 1, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.

A witness reported that he saw four people attempting to break into the mailbox with a pry bar and that three fled on foot while the fourth fled in a sport utility vehicle, according to police. Responding officers stopped a vehicle that matched the description provided in the 5100 block of North Cicero Avenue, and the rear passenger was arrested after officers found a pry bar with blue paint matching the paint of the mailbox next to him, police said.

The suspect was identified by police as Nickolas J. Raess, age 18, of the 5400 block of West Berteau Avenue.
