Local Crime from 16th District 6-3-20
A MAN REPORTED that he was carjacked at about 3 p.m. Thursday, May 28, in the alley of the 5700 block of West Henderson Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 21-year-old man reported that he was sitting in his parked vehicle when three men approached and one of them pointed a gun and told him to get out of the vehicle, according to police. The man reported that the three men fled west in his gray 2003 Ford Escape, police said.
Two of the men were described only as white/Hispanic. The man with the gun was described only as black.
AN EMPLOYEE of the CVS Pharmacy, 6417 W. Higgins Ave., reported that the store was robbed at about 12:35 p.m. Friday, May 29, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that a man entered the store, walked to the registers, pointed a gun and demanded money, according to police. The employee reported that the man then came around the counter, grabbed a shopping bag and filled it with a total of $574.14 in cash from the registers and fled in a gray Chevrolet sport utility vehicle, according to police.
The man was described as black, age 30, wearing a face mask, black hooded sweatshirt and white gloves.
AN EMPLOYEE of the P & S Liquor and Beer store., 7319 W. Irving Park Road, reported that the store was burglarized at about midnight Sunday, May 31, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Surveillance footage showed that two men used a brick to break a glass window and an employee reported that several bottles of liquor and several cigars were missing, police said.
The men were described as white and wearing black hooded sweatshirts and blue jeans.
AN EMPLOYEE of the CPR Cell Phone Repair store, 7211 W. Irving Park Road, reported that the store was burglarized at about 2:55 p.m. Sunday, May 31, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responded to a looting incident at the store and the employee reported that the front door was forced open, causing $500 in damage, and several electronics including two iPad Airs valued at $150 each, $400 in cash and a cell phone valued at $400 were missing, police said.
OFFICERS responded to reports of looting at Ecua Techs, 5603 W. Irving Park Road, at about 8:25 p.m. Sunday, May 31, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers discovered that the front window and front door of the store had been broken and employee reported that a Macintosh computer valued at $2,000 and miscellaneous cell phones and parts valued at $15,000 were missing, police said.
FOUR people were arrested after for allegedly breaking into Max’s Food and Liquors, 6200 W. Belmont Ave., at about 10:10 p.m. Sunday, May 31, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers observed a vehicle fleeing north on North Melvina Avenue and the driver fled east on West Melrose Street and then south on North Meade Avenue before stopping, police said.
Officers observed four occupants and numerous bottles of alcohol and tobacco products and when questioned, the driver said he "picked it up off the floor," according to police. Officers reported that the witness was brought to the scene and positively identified the four occupants as the people who broke into the store, police said.
An employee was able to verify that the items found in the vehicle were taken from the store’s inventory, according to police. The employee reported that 43 bottles of alcohol with a combined value of $2,214.88 and 178 tobacco products with a combined value of $989.65 were missing, police said. Officers reported that the vehicle was also impounded, due to the driver operating a vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, according to police.
The suspects were identified by police as Fernando Cervantes, age 41, of the 1900 block of West 21st Street, Juliana Tapia, age 37, of the 2900 block of North Kildare Avenue, Ryan Garcia, age 18, of the 3900 block of West Huron Street and Edward Quijano, age 22, of the 3900 block of West Huron Street.
TWO MEN were arrested after allegedly stealing items from the Columbia Care Chicago cannabis dispensary, 4758 N. Milwaukee Ave., at about 11:45 p.m. Sunday, May 31, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers reported that on arrival they observed two men and a woman exit the dispensary and gave chase but were unable to catch any of the suspects, according to police. Officers reported that when they returned to the business they discovered two men leaving the store with merchandise and they were taken into custody, police said. An employee reported that surveillance footage showed six men and a woman gained entry to the store after they broke the front glass door, then took two iPads with a combined value of $1,400 and fled, according to police.
Surveillance footage shows the two men taken into custody entered the store approximately 3 to 5 minutes after the first group fled, police said. The employee reported that the merchandise recovered from the two men had a combined value of approximately $1,250, according to police.
The suspects were identified by police as Joel Vasquez, age 32, of the 1400 block of North Lawndale Avenue, and Justin Villanuava, age 21, of the 3000 block of North Kedzie Avenue.
TWO MEN broken into the CVS Pharmacy, 6200 W. Higgins Ave., at about 12:50 a.m. Monday, June 1, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responded to an alarm and discovered that the front window had been broken and surveillance footage showed two men throw a rock at the window, enter the store and go to the pharmacy counter and when one of the men attempted to force open the rolling metal gates to the pharmacy, the alarm sounded and the men fled through the front window, police said.
SEVERAL witnesses reported that the Walgreen’s, 4040 N. Cicero Ave., was looted at about 12:30 a.m. Monday, June 1, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers reported discovering the front door was forced open when someone broke the glass and several bottles of sports drinks and an empty cash register drawer were found in the parking lot, according to police. Officers reported that the pharmacy door was also broken, counter displays were in disarray and many prescription bins were empty, police said.
