Local Crime from 16th District 7-18-18
A MAN REPORTED that his car was stolen at about 7:15 a.m. Friday, July 13, at the Shell Gas station, 4001 N. Laramie Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 67-year-old man reported that the keys were in the ignition of his black 2012 Toyota Corolla parked in the station when a man approached, pushed his way into the vehicle and started to drive away north on Laramie, according to police. The man reported that he held onto the vehicle and was dragged trying to turn the ignition off but fell off about a block north by Laramie and Cuyler avenues, police said.
The man was described as white, age 24 to 28, 5-6 to 5-9 and 150 to 170 pounds, with bald hair, and wearing a sleeveless T-shirt.
BULLET casings were recovered at the scene of a possible shooting at about 11:15 a.m. Sunday, July 8, in the 5600 block of West Eastwood Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers responded to a call of found bullets and discovered six spent .22-caliber bullet casings, and an area resident reported that he heard loud noises at about 2 a.m. earlier that morning but he thought it was fireworks, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that he was threatened with a handgun at about 4:30 a.m. Friday, July 13, in the 5900 block of West Higgins Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he heard a loud sawing sound in front of his home and looked out to see a man underneath a parked Honda CR-V and another man standing outside the vehicle, and that when he shouted at the men one of them pointed what appeared to be a handgun before the men drove away east on Higgins in a grey sport utility vehicle, according to police. The Honda belonged to a neighbor who confirmed the catalytic converter was stolen, police said.
The men were described as black and 5-8 to 6-2.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about noon Wednesday, July 11, in the 5600 block of North Menard Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 73-year-old woman reported that she was walking with her 10-year-old granddaughter when a man exited a house, ran towards the woman, struck her on the neck and took a gold medallion off her neck and fled, according to police.
The man was described as possibly Hispanic or Arabic, 5-9 to 6-0 and 160 to 200 pounds, bearded, and wearing an orange polo shirt and blue jean shorts.
A MAN REPORTED that he saw a man break into the Mr. Zees Famous Chicken restaurant, 3958 N. Narragansett Ave., at about 3:30 a.m. Monday, July 16, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The witness reported that he heard a loud crashing noise and saw a man climbing out the bottom of a front glass door of the restaurant and running south on Narragansett, and officers saw that both glass entry doors had broken glass with the front door containing blood, according to police. The owner of the business was unable to determine what proceeds, if any, were taken at the time of report, police said.
The man was described as white, age 30 to 40, approximately 5-7 and 180 pounds, with long brown hair, and wearing knee-length blue jeans.
A WOMAN reported that a man broke into her home in the 3700 block of North Harlem Avenue at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she was inside and heard a knock coming from the north side basement window and a few minutes later saw a man opening the opposite south side basement window, and that after she made eye contact the man fled through the alleyway into a waiting white Toyota Camry, according to police.
The man was described as black, age 20 to 30, approximately 5-8 and 150 pounds, with short black hair, and wearing an orange T-shirt, blue jeans and white gym shoes.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage of a home in the 4200 block of North Melvina Avenue was burglarized at about 3 a.m. Sunday, July 8, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A neighbor reported that he saw on his home surveillance camera an unfamiliar 1989 Chevrolet station wagon pulling away from his neighbor’s garage, and the garage owner reported that two snowblowers, a lawnmower, a leaf blower, an edger, a portable grill and a collapsible ladder were missing, according to police.
THEFTS OF vehicles were reported between July 9 and 12, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 6900 block of West Balmoral Avenue, the 4200 block of North Cicero Avenue, the 6600 block of West Belmont Avenue and the 5000 block of West Grace Street, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE of Saint James Evangelical Lutheran Church, 7400 W. Foster Ave., reported that the church was burglarized between 3 p.m. Saturday, July 7, and 5 a.m. Monday, July 9, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to the storage room of the church he discovered that 10 tables valued at $1,000, 50 chairs valued at $1,000 and about 100 dishes valued at $1,000 were missing, according to police.
