Local Crime from 16th District 7-24-19
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, in the 3400 block of North Long Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 62-year-old woman reported through a translator that she was walking north when two men approached from behind and tried to take her purse from her shoulder, and that they dragged her on the ground as she tried to hold on but they took the purse containing miscellaneous and state ID cards, her cellphone and $40 to $45 in cash before they ran away east in an alley south of Newport Avenue, according to police.
Both men were described as black/Hispanic, age 20, 5-10 or 5-11 and 180 to 200 pounds.
A WOMAN reported that she was robbed at knifepoint at about 11:45 p.m. Thursday, July 18, in the 3200 block of North Long Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 44-year-old woman reported that a woman ran behind her and said "I know who you are," pushed her into a tree and took her purse, pointed a knife at her and took her wallet containing her state ID card, a prescription card and $170 in cash before the woman drove away in a gray Toyota vehicle, according to police.
The woman was described as white/Hispanic and age 20 to 25.
A TEENAGER reported an attempted luring incident and theft at about 4:50 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, beginning in the 6400 block of West Palatine Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 13-year-old teen reported that he was riding bicycles with three friends when they rode past an older green Toyota Corolla on Palatine and a man exited the car and a condom fell out of his shirt and he called out "come here," and that they rode away to the parking lot of the Shop & Save grocery store, 6312 N. Nagle Ave., when the man followed them in the Toyota and exited the vehicle and the boys all ran away, according to police. A store employee reported that he saw the man load into his Toyota a black and gray bicycle that belonged to one of the boys, police said.
The man was described as white with a light complexion, age 45, approximately 5-10 and 180 pounds, with a short hairstyle, and wearing a gray shirt and black sweatpants.
AN EMPLOYEE of the Shell Gas station, 7201 W. Higgins Ave., reported that a customer threatened her at about 6:45 p.m. Friday, July 19, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that a man entered, purchased items and asked for a bag, and that when she told him that bags are taxed at 7 cents the man became enraged, yelled obscenities and threatened her and she called police and began filming him before he drove away in a white 2017 Nissan Murano, according to police.
The man was described as white/Hispanic.
A POOL attendant at Norwood Park, 5801 N. Natoma Ave., reported that a man threatened her at about 2:45 p.m. Monday, July 15, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that a man with two children was yelling profanities in front of a special needs day camp and then tried to enter through the pool gate, which was closed because it was at capacity, and that the man screamed at her and said "I am going to come back and get you tomorrow" before he left, according to police.
The man was described as black/Hispanic with a dark brown complexion, about age 25, approximately 5-6 and 130 pounds, with black bun-style hair and heavily tattooed arms.
A MAN WAS arrested for criminal trespassing to property and possession of a lost or stolen bicycle at about 10:30 p.m. Friday, July 19, in a parking lot in the 6200 block of West Addison Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 44-year-old man reported seeing a man climb into the rear of his 2008 Ford Crown Victoria parked in the parking lot, and officers arrested him on signed complaints and after he was found in possession of an orange mountain bike that he couldn’t explain where he got it from, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Bogdan Pilch, age 65, of the 3800 block of North Central Avenue. He was charged with misdemeanor criminal trespass to real property and misdemeanor theft of lost or mislaid property.
THREE dogs were rescued from neglectful conditions at about 3:30 p.m. Friday, July 19, from a home in the 6000 block of West Gunnison Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A man reported that his landlord who lived in an apartment above him was foreclosing on the building and had allegedly abandoned three dogs inside the unit without food, water or air conditioning, and officers looked through a window and saw three dogs and a "grotesque amount" of excrement in the apartment and called in fire department personnel who forced the rear door open and placed the dogs in the care of Chicago Animal Care and Control, according to police.
A VENDOR at the Portage Park Farmers’ Market reported that his container of cash was stolen at about 2:15 p.m. Sunday, July 21, in the 5400 block of West Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 70-year-old man reported that he turned his back away from his vendor table as he loaded his truck to head home, and that when he returned to the table he discovered that a box containing $800 in cash was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his bag was stolen at about 3 p.m. Saturday, July 20, while he rode a CTA bus in the 4900 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 42-year-old man reported that he made way for a large number of people to exit the bus, and that when he returned to his seat he discovered that his bag valued at $950 containing his cellphone valued at $850, a pair of Beats-brand headphones valued at $400, a phone charger valued at $200 and his grandmother’s medicine was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her wallet was stolen between 4:10 a.m. and 2:10 p.m. Saturday, July 20, as she rode buses to or from the Jefferson Park CTA Blue Line Station, 4917 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 23-year-old woman reported that she brought her purse inside a bag slung over her shoulder while she rode the bus, and that later in the day she received notification of $150 in fraudulent charges to her debit and credit cards and she discovered that her wallet containing the cards was stolen, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her purse was stolen at about noon Monday, July 15, as she was departing from the Jefferson Park CTA Blue Line Station, 4917 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 38-year-old woman reported that her purse was placed on top of her rolling suitcase, and that as she was entering her ride she discovered that her white purse containing four bank cards, two medical cards, a university ID card, a transit card, a foreign driver’s license and ID card, a green card and $10 in cash was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her wallet was stolen at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, July 20, while she was waiting at a CTA bus stop in the 4000 block of North Central Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 63-year-old woman reported that she was carrying an unzipped purse, and that when she went to pay for bus fare she discovered that her wallet valued at $50 containing her driver’s license, state ID, debit and medical cards and $100 in cash was missing, according to police.
NUMEROUS burglaries to vehicles were reported between 1 a.m. Sunday, July 14, and 5:30 a.m. Sunday, July 21, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Burglarized vehicles were reported in the 3900 block of North Neva Avenue, the 5500 block of North Central Avenue, the 5700 block of North East Circle Avenue, the 5900 block of North Newark Avenue, the 6000 block of North Neva Avenue, the 6400 block of West Raven Street, the 6500 block of West Bittersweet Place, the 6600 block of North Onarga Avenue, the parking lot of the Cozy Corner restaurant, 5454 N. Harlem Ave., and two in the 3200 block of North Central Avenue, according to police.
THE OWNER of the 4 Seasons Car Wash, 5900 W. Addison St., reported that the business was burglarized at about 3:10 a.m. Saturday, July 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to work he discovered that the glass front door window was shattered, and surveillance camera footage showed that a man and a woman broke the glass, entered through the front door, stole $80 worth of air fresheners, a cash register valued at $10 and $140 in cash and then took keys to three company vehicles from a key box before they drove away north on Marmora Avenue in the company’s blue 2013 Volkswagen Jetta that lacked license plates and an unknown gray four-door sedan, according to police.
The man and woman were both described as white and age 30 to 40. The woman was further described as wearing a sweatshirt, shorts and gloves, and the man as wearing a trucker hat, a black T-shirt and camouflage-colored shorts.
THE OWNER of Di’s Den, 5100 W. Irving Park Road, reported an attempted burglary at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, July 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to work at about 10 a.m. Saturday she discovered damage to the rear door, and surveillance camera footage showed that a man and a woman tried to use a bar to pry the rear door open but no entry was made, according to police.
The man and woman were both described as white or Hispanic and age 20 to 30. The woman was further described as wearing a baseball cap, a blue pullover shirt over a gray T-shirt with red sleeves, black shorts and black gym shoes, and the man as wearing a black baseball cap, a black "Jack Daniels" T-shirt, black gym shoes, gloves and camouflage-colored shorts.
A WOMAN reported that her house in the 6000 block of West School Street was burglarized between 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, and 4 p.m. Sunday, July 21, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that the rear door was forced open and that a necklace valued at $1,500, a ring valued at $1,000, $900 in cash were missing, according to police.
A MAN AND his son reported that their house in the 6100 block of West Berenice Avenue was burglarized between 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Friday, July 19, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The two men reported that when they returned home they discovered that the rear door was opened, and that a 14-karat gold chain, two high school athletic championship rings and an unknown amount of silverware were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that the garage of her home in the 6700 block of West Imlay Street was burglarized between 7 a.m. and 5:20 p.m. Saturday, July 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to the garage she discovered that the garage door was open and that a 50-inch television valued at $200 was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that the garage of her home in the 6600 block of West Albion Avenue was burglarized between 11 a.m. Friday, July 19, and 4:45 p.m. Saturday, July 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to the garage she discovered that the screen of the garage door was cut open, and that a 40-inch television was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his home in the 5600 block of North Northwest Highway was burglarized between 4 p.m. Monday, July 15, and midnight Tuesday, July 16, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to the garage he discovered that the manually operated garage door was raised and that a bucket with miscellaneous hand tools and caulk guns valued at about $100 total was missing, according to police.
