Local Crime from 16th District 8-1-18
A WOMAN WAS arrested for allegedly attacking an off-duty officer at about 11:15 p.m. Friday, July 27, on a street near Oak Park Avenue and Irving Park Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The off-duty officer reported that a woman had allegedly been leaving raw meat and other items on her front lawn, and that she saw the woman on July 27 holding a plastic vodka bottle and attempting to leave raw pork liver on her lawn, according to police.
The officer reported that when she confronted the woman the woman allegedly threw the liver at her head, and that when she tried to detain the woman she was hit in the head with the vodka bottle and the woman allegedly tried to bite and strangle her, police said. The officer called additional officers who arrested the woman and she was transported to Resurrection Medical Center, according to police.
The suspect was identified by police as Viktoria Putiatynska, age 33, of the 3900 block of North Oak Park Avenue.
A MAN WAS arrested at about 8:10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, after he allegedly was seen pointing a rifle at vehicles in the 6900 block of West Devon Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers reported that the man complied with their orders to put the rifle down, and he was arrested without incident, according to police. The rifle was unloaded, and the man did not possess any ammunition, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Gab L. Steverson, age 26, of the 1400 block of South Sawyer Avenue. He was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that two gunshots struck his car at about 2 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, while he was driving in the 4900 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that the windshield and a rear panel of the vehicle were damaged, according to police. Officers discovered three spent shell casing in the area, police.
A similar incident occurred at about 5:10 p.m. Friday, July 20, in the 4000 block of North Laporte Avenue when a driver reported that multiple gunshots were fired at his vehicle, police said.
A MAN WAS arrested for allegedly threatening another man with a handgun at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 28, in the 3200 block of North Opal Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An 18-year-old man reported that a man approached him with his hands in his pockets and said he was going to beat him up, and that the man allegedly pulled out a small handgun out of his pocket, according to police. Officers saw a man who fit a description walking and the man was arrested after he was identified, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as William K. Freeman, age 47, of the 400 block of Hobart Drive, South Elgin.
THE PRINCIPAL of Prussing School, 4650 N. Menard Ave., reported that a person broke into the school and damaged a large amount of property between 5 p.m. Friday, July 27, and 7:30 a.m. Monday, July 30, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The principal reported that when he returned to the school he discovered that the glass windows of 12 doors, two water fountains, a printer tray, three clocks, an exit sign, a safe, a computer screen and a desk were damaged, and that gang graffiti was scratched into a wall, according to police. The principal reported that the estimated total cost of damage was about $9,050, police said.
In related news, a school employee reported that the school was damaged between 8 p.m. Monday, July 23, and 5 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, according to police. The man reported that when he returned to the premises he discovered several teacher’s desks overturned and eight glass windowpanes shattered with damage costs estimated at about $500, police said.
A WOMAN reported that a man set her car on fire at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday, July 28, in the 5200 block of West Henderson Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she looked out the window and saw her ex-boyfriend pouring flammable antifreeze or gasoline on her 2016 Ford Fusion and lighting the car on fire, and Chicago Fire Department personnel responded and extinguished the flame, according to police. The blaze also damaged a 2011 Ford Fusion, police said.
The man was described as white/ Hispanic, age 33, about 5-3 and 240 pounds.
A WOMAN reported that a man attempted to take pictures of her at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at the CTA Jefferson Park Transit Center, 4917 N. Milwaukee Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 29-year-old woman reported that she was waiting for the bus when a 35-year-old man told her "he is trying to take pictures of you under your skirt," at which time she turned around to see another man squatting behind her with a cellphone, according to police. The woman reported that the 35-year-old pushed the other man away who then ran north on Milwaukee, and that the man left behind his phone that he was taking photos with, police said.
The man was described as white/ Hispanic, age 40, approximately 5-1 and 120 pounds, with straight black hair.
TWO TEENAGERS were arrested for allegedly attempting to break into vehicles at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, July 28, in the 7300 block of North Olcott Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A man reported that he saw two teenagers walking south on Olcott checking the door handles of parked vehicles, and that when he saw the teens open the door of his 1996 Honda Accord he came out of his home and yelled at the teens who fled south on Olcott and east on Chase Avenue, according to police. Officers found the two teens matching a description about 15 minutes later and they were arrested after they were identified, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as two 16-year-old males.
A MAN WAS arrested for allegedly possessing a stolen vehicle at about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, on the highway shoulder of the 5700 block of North Edens Expressway, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers were flagged down by a man outside of a Marathon gas station, 5200 N. Cicero Ave., who told them that his van ran out of gas on the highway and his children were in the van, and the officers returned to the brown 1995 Chevrolet on the highway shoulder to check on the children’s well being and discovered that no children were in the vehicle but that the vehicle was reported stolen, according to police. The officers returned to the gas station and discovered that the man had returned to the highway and discovered him in the van and that he allegedly pulled away and resisted arrest but was eventually detained, police said.
The suspect was identified as Marcellus King, age 37, of the 1600 block of West Le Moyne Street.
A COUPLE reported that their home in the 5400 block of North Mont Clare Avenue was burglarized and that their vehicle was stolen between 11 p.m. Thursday, July 26, and 3 a.m. Friday, July 27, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The couple reported that when the man woke up for work he discovered that the front window blinds were raised with a trash can placed outside the window, and that a purse containing 29 Klonopin pills, a wallet containing eight credit cards and car keys were missing from the house and the couple’s red and black 2016 Volkswagen Jetta was missing from the front parking spot, according to police.
In related news, several additional vehicles were reported stolen in the area from July 23 and July 28, police said. Thefts were reported in the 3200 block of North Pioneer Avenue, the 3400 block of North Page Avenue, the 3600 block of North Neva Avenue and the 4100 block of North Menard Avenue, according to police.
EMPLOYEES of the Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant, 3359 N. Harlem Ave., reported that the business was burglarized between 1 and 3 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An employee reported that when she returned to open the business she discovered that the rear doors had been unlocked and the front door windows was cracked with a large stone lying near the doors, and the owner reported that $1,500 in cash was missing from the money pouch and $400 in cash was missing from the register, according to police.
SEVERAL thefts of wheels from cars were reported in the area between noon Tuesday, July 24, and 10 a.m. Thursday, July 26, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 7000 block of West Higgins Avenue, the 3800 block of North Nottingham Avenue, the 3900 block of North Nordica Avenue, the 6700 block of West Byron Street, the 5500 block of West Bryn Mawr Avenue, and the 4800 block of North Meade Avenue, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE of the Walgreen’s store, 7155 W. Foster Ave., reported that a shoplifter implied that he was armed at about 4:50 p.m. Sunday, July 29, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The female shift manager reported that she confronted a man after seeing him place various over-the-counter cold medicines, cough drops and aspirin into his backpack, and that when she asked him to lift up his shirt he denied stealing and said "you don’t want to see what I have under my shirt, I have a gun under my shirt," and that the man then bought a soda and left the store, according to police.
The man was described as white/Hispanic, age 25 to 35, and wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt.
