Local Crime from 16th District 8-27-14
A MAN REPORTED that someone fired shots into his car at about 11 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, while it was parked in the 4800 block of West Ainslie Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he discovered multiple bullet holes on the car’s hood and engine compartment and a bullet hole in the windshield, according to police.
TWO MEN were charged with theft following their arrests at about 9:50 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, at the UPS self-serve drop box, 3535 N. Central Ave., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
An employee reported that while watching a video surveillance camera he saw a man enter the drop box code, remove packages containing $1,500 worth of cell phones, and place them in a satchel, according to police. When a responding officer approached the man on Eddy Avenue, he dropped the satchel and fled through a gangway, and he was apprehended after a chase, police said.
Employees and an officer later saw another man on a surveillnace camera pull up in a vehicle, remove packages containing five cell phones and a watch valued at a total of $2,764 from the drop box and place them in his vehicle, and he was arrested as well, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as Darius Mogielnicki, age 29, of the 3300 block of North Laramie Avenue, and Robert Strojny, age 34, of the 8600 block of West Catherine Avenue.
A MAN WAS arrested at about 6:05 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, after he allegedly broke into two vehicles in the 5800 and 5900 blocks of West Newport Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A resident reported that the man entered his vehicle and took a knife, and he detained the man until officers arrived, according to police. The man also had in his possession a global positioning system device that had been reported stolen from a vehicle in the 5900 block of Newport earlier that day, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Alfredo A. Corrales, age 29, of the 5000 block of West Deming Place.
TWO MEN were arrested at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, following an incident in the 5900 block of West Higgins Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers saw two men running into traffic on Marmora Avenue, and when they approached the men in their squad car, one of them yelled at the officers and both men threw cups of liquid at the officers through the open windows of the car, according to police. When the officers got out of the squad car, the men punched the officers in the face, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as Pablo Rivera, age 19, of the 5300 block of West Foster Avenue, and Matthew Mohring, age 19, of no known address.
A MAN REPORTED that he was robbed at about 11:05 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, as he was driving in the 4800 block of West Pensacola Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 28-year-old man reported that the driver of another vehicle told him that something was stuck under his car, and that when he got out of the car to check the problem, a man in the other vehicle displayed a handgun and took his wallet containing $25, keys and his cell phone, according to police.
A MAN WAS arrested at about 2:10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, after he allegedly broke into a garage in the 7900 block of West Addison Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A resident reported that he found the man searching his vehicle and that he punched him in the face and called police, according to police. The resident reported that the man took a wallet containing credit cards, his house keys and his car keys, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Daniel J. Schippers, age 18, of the 5300 block of North Oriole Avenue.
A MAN REPORTED that his car was burglarized between 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, and 5:30 a.m. the following day while it was parked in the 5900 block of North Indian Road, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he discovered that the driver’s-side window was broken and that a hammer drill, an impact driver, a reciprocating saw and a circular saw were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5100 block of North Nagle Avenue was burglarized at about 4:10 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that the rear door had been broken in and that various pieces of jewelry, a jewelry box and a purse containing Algerian currency, passports, social security cards and birth certificates were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her neighbor’s home in the 6100 block of West Thorndale Avenue was broken into at about 1:35 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that she discovered that the door to the first-floor apartment had been broken in, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that the garage of his home in the 7600 block of West Bryn Mawr Avenue was burglarized between 12:30 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he discovered that the side door of the garage had been broken in and that a bicycle, a television set, a lawn mower, a leaf blower, a chain saw, an electric scooter, a laptop computer, an iPad, construction tools, two motorcycles and two cell phones were missing, according to police.
