Local Crime from 16th District 8-28-19
A MAN REPORTED that a person fired a gun at his car in an apparent road-rage incident at about 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, in the 6100 block of West Devon Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 22-year-old man reported that he was driving on Nagle Avenue when he nearly collided with a silver Hyundai Elantra occupied by a man and woman and the Hyundai passenger shouted "you almost hit us," and that as he turned onto Devon the Hyundai pursued him and a person fired a gunshot through his rear window, according to police. The man reported that he thought that he was shot in the head and was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital where doctors discovered that he had a small laceration to his head possibly caused by glass debris or the headrest, police said.
The man was described as Asian/ Pacific Islander, 6-0 to 6-4, with black hair. The woman was described as white/Hispanic.
A WOMAN reported that her son was shot in a possible personal dispute or a gang-related incident at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, in the 5200 block of North Natchez Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman and her son reported that they were walking south on Natchez when a black or dark blue four-door car with tinted windows and at four occupants drove up and the shouted gang slogans while the front passenger pointed a black handgun or a firearm-like object and threatened the woman not to go to court against her former partner, and that the front passenger fired the weapon twice and the vehicle drove away west on Higgins, according to police. The teenager male reported that they ran away home when they discovered he was shot in the right arm, and he was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital where they discovered the wound came from a small caliber handgun or a BB gun, police said.
The shooter was described as a white/Hispanic man, aged in his late 30’s or early 40’s, and having a goatee.
AN EMPLOYEE of Plaza Mini Mart, 5022 W. Lawrence Ave., reported that he was attacked while trying to catch a shoplifter at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that he saw a man take a can of alcohol without paying and that he followed the man outside when a second man punched him in the face before the two men drove away east on Lawrence in a white tow truck with the wording "B-52 Towing" on the side, according to police.
The men were both described as white/Hispanic and age 30 to 40, and the assailant was described as about 5-8 and 150 pounds and the shoplifter as about 6-0 and 200 pounds.
A MAN REPORTED that a man attacked him as he was driving at about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, in the 6000 block of North Avondale Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 63-year-old man reported that he was driving south on Avondale when a man stopped him in the middle of the street, screamed profanities at him and struck his Hyundai Azera with an umbrella, and that when he stepped out to confront the man he spit on him and the two fought before the man fled south, according to police.
The man was described as white/Hispanic, age 25 to 35, about 5-11 and 200 pounds, with brown eyes, short black hair, and wearing a dark blue shirt and black shorts.
A WOMAN reported that her wallet was stolen as she rode a train to the Cumberland CTA Blue Line station, 5800 N. Cumberland Ave., between midnight and 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 26-year-old woman reported that she placed her silver wallet valued at $1,500 on the seat next to her, and that she later discovered the wallet containing her passport, state ID, driver’s license, debit card and various ticket stubs was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his vehicle was burglarized and a gun was stolen between 10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, and 6 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, in the 7500 block of North Oketo Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to his truck he discovered that the locked glove compartment was forced open and that his handgun valued at about $300 was missing, according to police. A surveillance camera captured two people walking on Oketo and pulling on vehicles’ door handles at about 4:30 a.m., police said.
SEVERAL vehicles were reported stolen between Aug. 18 and 24, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Vehicles were reported stolen in the 3200 block of North Linder Avenue, the 3500 block of North Cicero Avenue, the 3600 block of North Laramie Avenue, the 4700 block of North Lavergne Avenue, the 5100 block of North Sayre Avenue, the 5400 block of West Leland Avenue, the 6000 block of North McLeod Avenue, the 7200 block of North Oleander Avenue, the 7200 block of West Belmont Avenue and the 7600 block of West Berwyn Avenue, according to police.
MULTIPLE thefts of catalytic converters were reported from vehicles between Aug. 18 and 25, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Thefts were reported in the 4800 block of North Marmora Avenue, the 5400 block of North east River Road, and two in the 5300 block of North McVicker Avenue, according to police.
THE OWNER of a construction company reported that equipment was stolen from a residential construction site in the 5500 block of West Higgins Avenue between Thursday, Aug. 8, and 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported he discovered that a forklift valued at about $50,000 was missing from the lot, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his house in the 6700 block of West Devon Avenue was burglarized at about 12:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that both of the yard gates were open and the rear house door was open and that a black gym bag, a pair of winter boots valued at $180, a pair of costume shoes and his collection of 14 pairs of Air Jordan sneakers valued at $3,000 were missing, according to police. A neighbor’s surveillance camera system recorded a man riding a black mountain bike to the man’s rear alley and returning about minutes later with a black gym bag, police said.
The man was described as black, age 30 to 40, 5-11 to 6-2, 150 to 170 pounds, and bald.
A COUPLE reported that their house in the 5300 block of North Nordica Avenue was burglarized between 1:40 p.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man and woman reported that when they returned home they saw an unknown white, later-model Dodge Charger with Florida license plates leaving the area, and they discovered that the rear door was forced open and that miscellaneous jewelry, a set of blank checks and $100 in cash were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his garage in the 4100 block of North Parkside Avenue was burglarized and his car was stolen between 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, and 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he woke up he discovered that the garage door was opened and that his black 2010 Volkswagen Jetta was missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his garage in the 5700 block of West Dakin Street was burglarized between 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, and 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to the garage he discovered the service door lock was broken and that hand tools, a pressure washing tool, an air compressor tool and numerous lawn tools including a leaf blower, weed trimmer and hedge trimmer with a total value of at least $2,000 were missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his garage in the 5900 block of West Dakin Street was burglarized between 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, and 7 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned to the garage he discovered that the side door had been opened and that an air conditioner, a leaf blower, a miter saw and a portable work light were missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her tools were stolen from her garage in the 5800 block of West Dakin Street sometime around 6 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to the garage she discovered that a hammer, a mixing tool, a concrete drill and a washing tool valued at $2,930 total were missing, and that there were no signs of forced entry to the garage, according to police.
