Local Crime from 16th District 8-30-17
A 15-YEAR-OLD teenager was shot in an apparent gang-related incident at about midnight Sunday, Aug. 27, in the 4300 block of North Mulligan Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The teenager reported that he was sitting in the driver’s seat of his friend’s car as she was grabbing belongings from her home, when a man wearing a ski mask approached, tapped the front-passenger car window with a handgun and shot him once in the right hip before fleeing the scene on foot with another individual, according to police. The teenager was transported to Community First Hospital before he was transferred to Lurie Children’s Hospital, according to police.
TWO WOMEN were arrested on gun charges at about 1:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, in the 5300 block of West Belmont Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
A 45-year-old man reported that gunshots were fired in the 5200 block of West Patterson Avenue and he providing information on a suspicious vehicle that he believed may have been connected, according to police. Officers discovered a vehicle matching a description and the women were arrested after they discovered two handguns and spent shell casings in the vehicle, police said.
The suspects were identified by police as Ashley O. Jaramillo, age 25, of the 5100 block of South Lamon Avenue, and Madelynn K. Rosario, age 18, of the 5300 block of West Belmont Avenue.
A MAN REPORTED his vehicle was damaged by bullets at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, while it was parked in the 5300 block of West Addison Street, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 29-year-old man reported that he heard gunshots overnight and when returned to his vehicle he discovered seven bullet holes in the car, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that a man attempted to lure her daughter between 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, in the 8600 block of West Summerdale Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 35-year-old woman reported that her 12-year-old daughter was walking home from a friend’s house when a man asked her if she was Polish and where she lives before inviting the girl to come to his house with him, according to police. The woman reported her daughter responded "no" to questions and did not reveal where they lived, police said.
The man was described as age 25 and 5-9, with short black hair and a medium-brown complexion.
AN EMPLOYEE reported that the 7-Eleven store, 6000 W. Higgins Ave., was robbed at about 2 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that a man walked up with a large knife and demanded cigarettes and cash, before he handed him $450 in cash and three packs of cigarettes, according to police. The employee previously reported a robbery of similar nature that occurred Sunday, Aug. 20, according to police.
The man was described as white, age 20 to 30 and 180 to 200 pounds, and wearing an orange hooded sweatshirt with black striped sleeves, black sweatpants and a black face bandana containing a white skull.
AN EMPLOYEE reported that the Subway restaurant, 5232 N. Nagle Ave., was robbed at about 4 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 19-year-old man reported that a man walked in with a large knife and demanded money and took $125 in cash, according to police.
The man was described as 5-10 and 175 pounds, and wearing a grey sweatshirt, blue jeans, gloves and a red bandana covering his face, according to police.
AN EMPLOYEE reported that a man took medicine from a pharmacy at the Mariano’s store, 5353 N. Elston Ave., on Friday, Aug. 25, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The employee reported that when he returned to work at 7:20 a.m. he discovered that medication shelves were in disarray saw a man on video surveillance stealing $1,053 worth of heartburn, anti-smoking and herpes medication, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 5000 block of North Newland Avenue was burglarized between 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, and 3 p.m. the following day, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered that a laptop computer, two watches valued at $700, 300 compact discs and 100 digital videodiscs and $600 were missing be missing, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his home in the 3900 block of North Central Avenue was burglarized at about 12:45 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he was out getting a haircut when the maintenance man of his building called him and told him that he saw two men kick in the rear door of his unit, according to police. The man reported that he discovered that $860 in cash was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that her home in the 8500 block of Bryn Mawr Avenue was burglarized between 6:15 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned home she discovered that two laptop computers valued at $2650, a camera and a Nintendo Wii video game console were missing, according to police.
