Local Crime from 16th District 8-8-18
A MAN WAS arrested at about 8:10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, after he allegedly was seen pointing a rifle at vehicles in the 6900 block of West Devon Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Officers reported that the man complied with their orders to put the rifle down, and he was arrested without incident, according to police. The rifle was unloaded, and the man did not possess any ammunition, police said.
The suspect was identified by police as Gab L. Steverson, age 26, of the 1400 block of South Sawyer Avenue. He was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that two gunshots struck his car at about 2 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, while he was driving in the 4900 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that the windshield and a rear panel of the vehicle were damaged, according to police. Officers discovered three spent shell casing in the area, police.
A similar incident occurred at about 5:10 p.m. Friday, July 20, in the 4000 block of North Laporte Avenue when a driver reported that multiple gunshots were fired at his vehicle, police said
A WOMAN reported that a man attempted to rob her at about 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at the BP gas station, 5200 W. Addison St., according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The 31-year-old woman reported that while she was outside of her vehicle adding air to the rear passenger side tire, a man grabbed the strap of her purse and pushed her to the ground, and that after she turned around and kicked him the man ran away without any of her belongings, according to police.
The man was described as black, age 18 to 25, between 5-7 and 5-8, 140 and 160 pounds, with short black hair and wearing a black shirt with white lettering, police said.
A MAN REPORTED that two men stole a catalytic converter from his vehicle and that one of the men threatened him with a handgun at about 3:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, in the 5300 block of West Carmen Avenue, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that he heard a sawing sound outside his residence and saw a man through his front window standing next to his vehicle and a man sitting in the driver’s seat of a gray sport utility vehicle that was parked parallel to his car in the middle of the street, and that when he approached the men, they told him to "get back to your crib" and the man outside the vehicle pulled out a handgun, pointed in the air and fired a gunshot before he entered the vehicle and they both drove away, according to police.
The men were described as black and between age 20 and 25, according to police.
A MAN REPORTED that his residence in the 4400 block of North Central Avenue was burglarized between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The man reported that when he returned home he discovered the front door was unlocked and the bathroom window had been opened, and that $850 in cash was missing, according to police.
A WOMAN reported that the garage of her residence in the 5600 block of North Mason Avenue was burglarized between 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, and 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
The woman reported that when she returned to her home she discovered that the garage door had been opened and that a punching bag and supplies valued at $2,500, children’s school supplies valued at $250, glasses valued at $300 and a compact disc player valued at $200 were missing, according to police.

SEVERAL vehicle thefts were reported in between Aug. 2 and Aug. 4, according to 16th (Jefferson Park) District police.
Stolen vehicles were reported in the 4800 block of West Byron Street, the 7300 block of West Belmont Avenue, the 4400 block of North Linder Avenue, the 3500 block of North Ozark Avenue and the 3300 block of North Pittsburgh Avenue, and two incidents of stolen vehicles were reported in the 4900 block of North Mason Avenue, according to police.
